Activities and games for all the family, refreshments, face-painting, and stalls. We will also be collecting recipes for the community cookbook so please come along and let us know what your favourite meal is using fruit and vegetables. Those who write a recipe will be entered into a prize draw for a 20 shopping voucher. If you have any unwanted, good quality household items, clothes, books and furniture please bring them along to donate to the Ear4U stall or shop. Chainlink will also be at the fun day. They are looking for any unwanted bikes which will be refurbished into pool bikes for local residents to rent for free or to buy for an affordable price. Donated bikes do not need to be in working order. Partington Library and Health Centre can offer information and advice on your waste and recycling. You can also recycle your batteries at the library. Need more compostable liners? Visit Partington Library or tie a liner to your green recycling bin and the bin men will leave you a new pack. TIP! 2 What recyclingto can be made in FACTS All the newspapers manufactured in the UK are now made from 100% recycled paper. It takes 7 days for a recycled newspaper to come back as a newspaper again. Any glass product can contain up to 80% recycled material. Food and garden waste goes into a composter where it is composted on a huge scale. 100% is processed in the North West to make good quality, enriched soil. Paper and cardboard is made into newspaper and packaging materials. Electrical items can be used again in different ways. Games Consoles - computer casings, car parts and beams. Mobile Phones - fuel cells and zinc to prevent rusting on ships. Food tins and drinks cans are melted down to be made into bicycle frames, pipes, train tracks, ship hulls, cars, bridges, paperclips, and new food and drinks cans. In the UK we use 57,000 tonnes of cartons every year that is the same weight as 331 blue whales. Switzerland and Finland recycle more than 90% of their glass. TIPS Please put your dog or animal waste in your grey bin. Only put plastic bags in your grey bin. Don t put plastic bags in with your recycling. 100% of glass bottles and jars you recycle are made into new products in the UK including other jars and even loft insulation. Paper fibres are rolled flat and used to make coreboard - ready to make tubes and cores for industrial purposes such as winding textiles, yarns or films. Plastic bottles can be remade into plastic bags, bottles, flooring and window frames, garden furniture, and filling for sleeping bags and duvets. Rinse your items, remove tops, caps and lids, and squash plastic bottles and cans to make more space in your bin.
Ear4U Ear4U sells good quality affordable second hand clothes and furniture. Janice and Trish who run Ear4U also provide a listening ear service for residents feeling lonely or isolated. Tell us about what you do: We sell a variety of second hand clothes and furniture to local residents. We do this to encourage people to donate and reuse rather than sending things to landfill. Everything we sell is reasonably priced it s all affordable as we are a not for profit organisation. How do you collect the items that you sell? We rely 100% on donations. These are from both organisations and individuals. People throw stuff out or no longer want stuff which is still useable or still wearable. It may just be that they have no room for it but it isn t broken or damaged. So what we say is one man s junk is another man s treasure! What do local residents think of Ear4U? Local residents love what we do (or so they tell us!) because they know they can rely on us, not only to buy affordable household items and clothes, but also because we welcome anyone in here to have a chat if they re in need of someone to talk to. Why should people attend our recycling fun day? People living in Partington should attend because it will be fun, educational and there will be lots going on. And of course we will be there! Percentage of Waste collected in Trafford April 2013-March 2014 General Waste 42% Paper & Card 15% Mixed (Plastic bottles, cans & glass) 12% Food & Garden Waste 31% Trafford Council offer its residents free recycling bins however to replace a Grey bin it costs 25 administration and delivery charge. If you would like more than one recycling bin this is a free cost. Exemptions: Those with a family of 5 or more and those with a medical condition will be considered by the waste management team for a larger grey bin.

Alison Farrow A resident living in Partington. She has joined the recycling fun day committee to speak on behalf of other residents to tell us what your community wants: Tell us why you recycle: I find it easy to put the right things in the right bin. It s easy to understand but at Christmas it s a bit of a pain with so much paper to put in my blue bin! You have a large family, what tips do you have for others? If you recycle properly you can reduce the amount of rubbish that goes in the grey bin ours doesn t get full often now we recycle. Why are you getting involved with the recycling fun day? Because I think it s a good idea. It s a good idea to teach children and adults about recycling and it can be done in a fun way. If you target children whilst they re young, they ll get into a routine and it will stick with them. Why should people attend the recycling fun day? People should attend because it will be fun, interesting, you re going to learn things and it s going to be a great day! Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) You can take your extra waste or large bulky items to your local tip. This is located at: Sinderland Road Household Waste Recycling Centre, Woodhouse Lane, off Sinderland Road, Altrincham WA14 5TB Telephone: Our disposal sites are open seven days a week during the following months: Summer: (28 March to 27 October) 8am to 8pm Winter: (28 October to 27 March) 8am to 6pm Christmas Day and New Years Day: closed
Useful Information To report any problems with your bins, missed collections or to order a new bin please contact Trafford Council through the Environment pages at and follow the appropriate links. Alternatively call (0161) for assistance. These links also enable you to know your next collection dates. The council are able to support elderly, disabled and vulnerable residents with assisted bin collections. Please contact the council through the contacts above who will be happy to offer support. Trafford Council also offers residents the opportunity to report any fly-tipping and waste issues using their Report It facility. Simply access the Trafford website, follow the links to the Environment webpage and the Report It links. Other Information Please remember that leaving loose or bagged waste and household furniture in the street could be classed as fly tipping and may result in a fine. Keeping our community clean, tidy and cared for stops the spread of rats and other vermin and makes it a far nicer place for everyone. If you have any unwanted or broken bulky items which cannot be donated to charity please take them to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre. Alternatively Trafford Council will collect these items for a small cost, 28 for up-to 5 items. Please contact Trafford Council to arrange this.
Thank you for Recycling! Trafford has the second best recycling rate in Greater Manchester. Between April 2013 and March 2014 Trafford recycled and composted approximately 48,000 tonnes of waste and achieved a 58% recycling rate. We want even the smallest price tag and stickiest jars. All we ask is that you put the items in the right bin. With the financial support of the European Commission LIFE ENV/UK/000389
