4 ESD protection ESD protection What is ESD? ESD stands for electrostatic discharge. Electrostatic charges occur whenever two objects are rubbed together or pulled apart. If two objects with differing charges are brought into proximity, the electrons can suddenly flow from one object to the other. This flow of electrons is referred to as an electrostatic discharge. The most frequent source of ESD is human beings. The human body can become charged up to 30,000 V due to friction when walking or due to clothing. The discharge occurs when other people or objects are touched. What are the consequences of ESD? Electrostatic discharges can damage electronic components. Usually, components are only weakened by ESD. The damage does not happen until later during use. Malfunctions occur or the component fails. What can the expert do about it? In order to avoid ESD damage, it is necessary for electronic components or people to be earthed. This means the electrostatic charge is dissipated in a controlled manner. Electronic spare parts are supplied in an antistatic bag. This ESD bag has a slightly conductive surface, which prevents electrostatic voltages from building up during transport. ESD protection during service work: Disconnect the appliance from the mains before working on electronic components Make sure the ESD wristband touches the skin on your wrist before working on electronic components, and keep it in contact during the work. The crocodile clip is attached to a metallic part of the water supply line (reinforced braided hose, angle stop valve, etc.). This means earthing is provided via the water supply line New controls and printed circuit boards must be left in the ESD bag and not removed until immediately before they are installed. The replaced printed circuit boards must be packed in an ESD bag immediately after removal. 16 Replacing the dryer fan Prerequisites Have the following material ready: Spare part Floor covering 1 Cover the floor to prevent it getting dirty. 2 Switch off the power switch. Visually inspect the contacts on the heating element, replace the heating element if there is corrosion or another defect. 6 Insert a new dryer fan, making sure that both snap connectors engage. 7 Switch on the power switch. 8 Perform a function test, page Screw open the casing. 4 Pull the casing forwards and remove it. 5 Press the snap connectors together on both sides and remove the dryer fan. 16

17 Replacing the dryer heating element Prerequisites Have the following material ready: Spare part Floor covering 1 Cover the floor to prevent it getting dirty. 2 Switch off the power switch. 7 Press the snap connectors together on both sides and remove the dryer fan. 8 Unscrew both screws of the dryer heating element. 3 Screw open the casing. 9 Unplug connector. 4 Pull the casing forwards and remove it. 10 Remove dryer heating element and replace it with a new heating element. 5 Disconnect the mains plug. 6 Put on and connect an ESD wristband, see ESD protection, page 4. 17

18 11 Hook the cable into the securing clip and plug the connector back in. 12 Insert dryer fan. Both snap connectors must engage. 13 Unclip the crocodile clip from the reinforced braided hose and remove the ESD wristband. 14 Connect the mains plug. 15 Switch on the power switch. 16 Perform a function test, page 65. Replacing the user detection hinge Prerequisites Have the following material ready: Spare part or Floor covering ESD wristband Cord, 1m Lubricant for rubber Have the following special tools ready: Offset ring spanner (e.g. Würth special spanner) Metal saw 1 Cover the floor to prevent it getting dirty. 2 Switch off the power switch. 3 Screw open the casing. 4 Pull the casing forwards and remove it. 18

19 5 Close the stop valve. 12 Hold the new hinge sideways against a magnet or the magnet in the WC lid, the odour extraction unit starts. 6 Disconnect the mains plug. If the odour extraction unit does not start, the built-in user detection hinge is intact and does not need to be replaced. If the odour extraction unit starts, perform the next step. 13 Disconnect the connector of the new user detection hinge again. 14 Disconnect the mains plug. 15 Release and remove the cover. 7 Put on and connect an ESD wristband, see ESD protection, page 4. 8 Disconnect the connector from the user detection hinge and insert the new hinge to test it. 16 Place a container with a capacity of at least 2.5 l under the storage water heater. Use a coin to open the drain screw and let the water drain out. 9 Connect the mains plug. 10 Press the release buttons on both hinges and push them together, then remove the WC lid. 11 Switch on the power switch. 19

20 17 Reinstall the drain screw. 18 Unscrew the locking screw of the storage water heater behind the reinforced braided hose. 21 Remove the hose leading to the storage water heater from the water pump. 19 Press the storage water heater towards the rear wall and release it from the overflow opening. 22 Slightly unscrew 3 screws from the mounting plate. 20 Hold the storage water heater and disconnect both connectors from the control one after the other. First disconnect the lower connector, then the upper one. 23 Knot the cord around the connector of the disconnected cable for the user detection. 20

Untie the knot but do not remove the cord, it is used for installing the new cable. 27 Insert the cable of the new hinge. 28 Place the cable in the groove of the washer so that it will not be crushed when the nut is tightened. 25 Unscrew the nut of the hinge screw using the offset ring spanner. Remove the nut and washer. 29 Tighten the nut of the hinge screw slightly. Without the offset ring spanner, it will be necessary to remove the dryer pipe in order to access the nut of the hinge screw. 30 Install the WC lid and WC seat and align the hinge. 26 Remove the defective user detection hinge. 21

If only the diaphragm pump is defective, replace the diaphragm pump now and continue from step 15. Otherwise continue from step Release the connection hose at the bottom, release the diaphragm pump from the snap connector and replace it. 6 Put on and connect an ESD wristband, see ESD protection, page 4. 35

36 12 Disconnect both plug connections from the nozzle cleaner tank. 18 Fill Jetclean8000 nozzle cleaner and close the filling tray again. Older versions do not have any connectors. 61 Updating the firmware (control up to October 2009) Prerequisites Have the following tool ready: Firmware updater Firmware on SD memory card 1 Switch off the power switch. 6 Pull the connector out of the control as illustrated. 7 Connect the adapter to the control. 2 Screw open the casing. 8 Connect the flexible flat cable of the firmware updater to the control. 3 Pull the casing forwards and remove it. 9 Plug in the mains cable of the firmware updater as illustrated. 4 Put on and connect an ESD wristband, see ESD protection, page 4. Make sure that the SD memory card with the firmware is inserted. 5 Set the rotary button of the firmware updater to position 1 (8000 Rel. II, 2.1.9). 10 Switch on the power switch. 61

62 Do not press the Start/Stop button during the installation. 11 Press the Start/Stop button on the firmware updater. The green LED on the firmware updater flashes during the installation (approx. 30 s). The green LED changes to a steady light as soon as the installation has finished. If the red LED lights, this means the installation was not successful. Check the plug connections and restart the installation. Replace the control if the LED continues to be lit. 12 Switch off the power switch. 13 Disconnect the firmware updater. 14 Return the plug connections to their initial condition. 15 Unclip the crocodile clip from the reinforced braided hose and remove the ESD wristband. 16 Open the stop valve. 17 Perform commissioning, page Perform a function test, page

Checking the dryer functionality on the control panel The dryer can only be started after a shower procedure. 1 Press the <Dryer> button. 2 Press the <Shower> button. The dryer arm extends and the dryer starts. Result The spray arm extends and the shower operates for at least 20 s. 2 Press the <Dryer> button to switch the dryer back off. The dryer arm retracts. 67

68 Function test after service Checking the spray functionality with the remote control 1 Install the spray shield and cover the infrared window of the user detection with a piece of paper. 4 Press the <Shower> button to start the shower. Adjust the position of the spray arm using the buttons, visually check the position. Press the <Shower> button to stop the shower. The Geberit AquaClean must be switched on for 3 4 min to heat up the water in the storage water heater. 2 Press the <Shower> button to start the shower. Use your hand to check whether the water is warm. Press the <Shower> button to stop the shower. 5 Press the <Shower> button to start the shower. Then press the <Massage spray> button and check the jet of the massage spray by hand. Press the <Massage spray> button again to stop the jet of the massage spray. Press the <Shower> button to stop the shower. 3 Press the <Shower> button to start the shower. Adjust the spray intensity using the <-> and <+> buttons and check by hand. Press the <Shower> button to stop the shower. 6 Press the <Shower> button to start the shower. Then press the <Oscillating spray> button and check that the spray arm moves forwards and backwards. Press the <Oscillating spray> button again to stop the function. Press the <Shower> button to stop the shower. 68

Checking the functionality of the service button 1 Remove the paper from the infrared window of the user detection. 2 Press the <Service> button in order to extend the spray arm. Checking the dryer functionality with the remote control The dryer can only be started after a shower procedure. 1 Push on the remote control. 3 Check the spray nozzle for possible contamination. 2 Press the <Dryer> button on the remote control and check the functionality by hand. 4 Press the <Service> button again in order to extend the dryer arm. Press the <Service> button again in order to retract the dryer arm again. 3 Adjust the air temperature using the <-> and <+> buttons and check by hand. Checking the WC lid lowering function 1 Let the WC seat and WC lid drop. They should be slowed by the damper and should not get stuck. 4 Press the <Dryer> button to switch off the dryer, the dryer arm retracts. 69

73 Technical data Resistance value of temperature sensor of the storage water heater Procedure when measuring the electrical resistance: 1 Disconnect Geberit AquaClean from the power supply system. 2 Select the 20 kω measuring range on the multimeter. 3 Position the measuring pins against the two contacts in the socket of the temperature sensor and read off the resistance value. 4 The measured resistance value and the current water temperature must match (acc. to table). 5 If the values differ from one another by more than 3 C, the temperature sensor is defective and must be replaced.
