3 Instructions for the Fire System Designer Rel /6 1 Introduction These instructions explain the features included with the Fire System Designer Release 2.1. It provides basic information on operating the Fire System Designer. The following chapters explain the new features: Extinguishing systems interfaces Networking with fiber optic cable (FOC) Opening old systems in combination with BCM-0000-B New products: - FNM-420 LSN improved Sounders - FAS-420-TM Smoke Aspiration System - Interface modules (FLM-420-O8I2; FLM-420-RLE-S (Extinguishing Interface Module); FLM-420-O1I1) - BCM-0000-B Battery Controller Module Note: When you install FSD Release 2.1, you can retain the personalized sequence of the products in the selection bar and any saved parameters without having to uninstall the previous version. 2 Interfaces for Activating Extinguishing Systems Extinguishing systems can be activated from the FPA-5000 in two different ways: 1. Via the FLM-420-RLE-S Extinguishing Interface Module 2. Via the RMH 0002 A functional module If you want to use these products to activate an extinguishing system in the FSD, select the variant marked with a yellow warning triangle and "EA" in the CTN. In this context, "EA" stands for "Extinguishing Area" and is only attributed to the product name in the FSD Each deployment of one of these products within an FPA-5000 constitutes an extinguishing area

4 Instructions for the Fire System Designer Rel /6 How does the FSD satisfy the standard for activating extinguishing systems? In the FSD, the extinguishing system and extinguishing interface module with the yellow warning triangle are subject to legalities aimed at satisfying standards: If a second extinguishing area is set up on a fire panel (via FLM-420-RLE-S EA or RMH 0002 A EA), the FSD requires a redundant panel (reason: if a panel controller fails, no more than one extinguishing area is allowed to fail) FLM-420-RLE-S EA Extinguishing Interface Modules cannot be combined with other products in a loop If a second FLM-420-RLE-S EA is placed on the same loop, the FSD requires a second LSN module of the same type in the plausibility list This second LSN module must not be assigned products as it forms a loop with the LSN module on which the extinguishing interface modules are located (reason: In the event that one of the LSN modules is faulty, no more than one extinguishing area is allowed to fail). To avoid products unintentionally drawing on the redundant LSN module: 1. Right-click the redundant LSN module 2. Select "Extinguishing area redundancy". The module is then hidden and no more products can be added A maximum of 8 extinguishing areas may be entered on each panel. The FSD therefore restricts the total of FLM-420-RLE-S EA and RMH 0002 A EA to 8 items altogether 3 Networking with Fiber Optic Cable 3.1 Background: You can use an FOC/CAN converter to network a panel with another panel via fiber optic cable (FOC). If one panel in the network is networked with two other panels via fiber optic cable, these panels require two FOC/CAN converters. The FOC/CAN converters each use 100 ma. They do not have a product ID as they are obtained locally. 3.2 Implementation in FSD This is how to define in the FSD which panels are connected with each other via fiber optic cables:

5 Instructions for the Fire System Designer Rel /6 Left-click a panel. The panel's inventory opens. Define whether this panel is connected to one or two panels by selecting "IN" or "OUT". For each checkbox you select, an FOC/CAN is added to the inventory of the relevant panel. 4 Opening Old FSD Files If a saved FSD file containing an MPC 0000 A or BCM 0000 A (old products) is opened, a prompt will appear, asking whether this file should be used as an old system. 4.1 What happens if the file is opened as an old system? 1. The system is defined as "already installed". In the panel's inventory (left-click on panel), all elements are marked as installed. 2. The BCM 0000 A is replaced in the inventory with a BCM-0000-B, but the FSD behaves as though it were a BCM 0000 A: a. The MPC 0000 A is retained; these would not be possible with a BCM-0000-B (incompatible). b. For the purposes of battery calculation, it uses power from the old BCM 0000 A. c. The difference of 6 ma is incorporated in the BCM-0000-B standby current. 3. If the system is now extended, the current consumption and therefore the battery capacity increase until, eventually, another battery controller module is needed. a. As the old BCM 0000 A is no longer available, the FSD adds a BCM-0000-B, which appears in the order list. b. As the MPC 0000 A and BCM-0000-B are incompatible, the old system's MPC 0000 A must now be replaced with a MPC-0000-B. c. The corresponding instruction appears in the plausibility window if a new Battery Controller Module is added to the system. d. If you click the instruction, you will be taken to the "Parameter" menu item, where the MPC-0000-B can be manually selected (please also select the language). e. The instruction then disappears from the plausibility window. 4.2 What happens if the file is not opened as an old system? 1. All MPC 0000 A units are replaced by the new MPC-0000-B. 2. All BCM 0000 A units are replaced by the new BCM-0000-B.

6 Instructions for the Fire System Designer Rel /6 3. In terms of battery calculation, in some cases the battery capacity may be changed as the power of the new products is fractionally different from that of the old products. 4. No system elements are defined as "already installed".
