Additional lift bar kits can be added. Only the S-Series Treating Head will be used to describe operating procedures throughout this manual. Refer to the Computer Treater and GLCPS manuals for specific Treater Head details.

Equipment installation 5 Equipment Installation Several basic requirements are necessary to ensure proper equipment installation. Read through and understand this manual. Arrival / Transportation Use a fork truck to lift the pallet with drum attached. Use 7/16 wrench to remove bolts that connect the Drum Guard Kit to the Drum frame. They are located along the bottom of the Drum Cage. Use 7/16 wrench to remove shipping hold down brackets (hold Drum frame to pallet). Use an overhead hoist to lift the Drum Cage Kit off the Drum frame. Set aside and attach later. Step 1: Use tin snips to cut the metal banding that holds the Drum down onto the Drum Frame during shipping. Drum bands must be removed prior to running the Drum, to prevent damage to the Drum! Polishing Drum on a pallet Caution! Removing Drum band can cause injury! Wear proper personal protective equipment: gloves and safety glasses. Place one hand on the banding above the cut, while standing to the side of the banding. This will reduce the chance of banding flying out of control, causing injury. Discard used banding material responsibly.

6 Equipment installation Step 2: Refer to the Lift Plan for proper rigging, lifting and placement of the drum. Locate the drum on a solid surface and fasten it to the floor with anchors. Use an overhead hoist to lift the Drum and frame assembly off the shipping pallet (use 4 lifting lugs) and place it in the desired location. Plan accordingly! Take into consideration the weight of the Drum plus the weight of a conveying system used for input as well as the weight of collection containers used on both ends of the process. The Drum must be easily accessible to an electrical power source. Allow access to the DRUM from all sides for the purpose of adjustments, maintenance and clean-up. Use an overhead hoist to lift the Drum Cage Kit back onto the Drum frame. Align the bolt holes on the Drum Cage Kit with the Cage tabs welded to the Drum frame. Use 7/16 wrench to connect the Drum Guard Kit hardware to the Drum frame. Power Supply (Service) Prior to initial start-up, the phase-sequence of all motors must be checked. Ensure a licensed electrician wires the system, following the National Electrical Codes for the area. The motor direction is indicated by arrow stickers on the Drum Gear Motor and the Drum Inlet end. Wire the VFD Micro Inverter (shipped strapped to the Gear Motor), Gear Motor, Doghouse Light and Control Panel by a qualified electrician. A recommended easily accessible Emergency Disconnect Station (customer supplied) should be installed on or near the Drum. Drum Gear Motor Doghouse Light Light Wire leads Lift Lug Cage Tab

Equipment installation 11 Diagram Chemical Fill & Return The treater head assembly, positive pressure system, drum and supply tank (pump and agitation motor) all operate independently from each other. Metering Tank Treater Head OVERFLOW LINE (TO SUPPLY TANK) PPS Drum FILL LINE (TO METERING TANK) Supply Tank Note: Ensure the treater head is located ABOVE the chemical supply tank! This allows adequate gravity flow of chemical to the source. Avoid low spots in the lines where chemical can settle out and obstruct flow. The pump underneath the supply tank dispenses chemical up to the bottom of the metering tank. The overflow tubes return excess chemical back into the top of the supply tank. Use the flow control valve on the supply tank to control a constant and even chemical circulation to the metering tank. Flow Control Valve TO METERING TANK

12 Equipment installation Diagram Chemical Application Flow A Note: A Chemical dispenses from the metering tank, through the transfer tubes (underneath the metering tank) into the PPS* reservoir cup. D B Chemical drains down out of the PPS reservoir cup, through the in-line filter and then to the air pump. B C Chemical moves through the air pump and is dispensed up to the spray nozzle (connected to the backside of the treater head housing assembly). C D Chemical is sprayed onto seed as it passes through the head and into the mixing chamber. *PPS = Positive Pressure System

Equipment installation 13 Integrated Aspiration Step 1: Only cleaned and dust-free seed should be used in the treating process. An exhaust unit supplied by the customer must be connected to a central aspiration system. Six inch OD port for the exhaust unit is located on top of the doghouse (discharge end of the Drum). Remove four (4) hex head bolts and washers. Remove the Dust Collection Plate. Doghouse Front Door Use the Doghouse Front Door to view the mixing process while the drum is rotating. Use the Quarter Turn Key to unlock and open the window. Do NOT open while the drum is rotating! Dust Collection Plate Drum Angle Adjustment Use the Adjustment Bolts on the frame (both sides) to increase or decrease the angle of the drum (remove a section of the Drum Cage Kit to gain access). Example: Recommended cfm. Estimated frame lift per pound per minute (Based on soybeans): Step 2: Remove the doghouse cover. Replace the Dust Collection Plate and securely fasten the four (4) washers and bolts. Connect to a central aspiration system. 200lb/min. = 3.0 lift 400lb/min. = 3.5 lift 600lb/min. = 4.5 lift 700lb/min. = 5.0 lift 800lb/min. = lift Doghouse Cover Decreased drum angle will result in less seed capacity running through the drum, achieving dryer and better seed coverage. Increased drum angle will result in more seed capacity running through the drum, achieving wetter and poorer seed coverage. Dust Collection Plate

14 Equipment installation Compressed Air Optimum compressed air supply must be guaranteed. Only filtered, dry compressed air (min. 80psi) may be connected. The working pressure range requirement is 30-60psi. Connect customer-supplied shop air to the 3/8 2-way brass ball valve on the Filter Regulator Assembly, next to the PPS. Recommended to either install a dryer or hot air generator for compressed air. Alternatively, a coalescing filter may be used to remove water from the compressed air. Reducing the amount of moisture from entering the air pump helps aid in proper operation and longevity of the pump. Shop Air

Equipment installation 15 Theory of Operation Untreated Seed Treated Seed Legend Untreated Seed = Treated Seed = Chemical Cup Arm A B A B Counterweight Weighpan Note: A Seed in the weighpan activates seed & chemical metering. Begin with the counterweight tipped to the left (the weighpan inside the treater head and chemical cup inside the metering tank are also tipped to the left (all are connected and move together in tandem). The weighpan right side pocket fills with seed and the left chemical cup fills with chemical. B Seed & chemical empty simultaneously. When the weighpan right side pocket fills with seed, the counterweight, weighpan and chemical cup tip over to the right and dump the seed down into the seed transition and the chemical into the chemical funnel (chemical will not flow until the weighpan tips). Chemical flows down the clear vinyl tube (connected to the bottom of the chemical funnel) to the PPS (reservoir cup) and then to the spray nozzle (inside the drum at the end of the transition). Seed is sprayed with chemical as it passes out of the transition and mixes together, then discharges from the drum. Seed & chemical metering trips end when seed stops filling the weighpan. A + B = 1 TRIP and will repeat as long as seed fills the weighpan.

20 POWDER Operation POWDER Operation Dry Delivery Control Step 1: Open the Powder Hopper Lid and add an adequate amount of powder in the Hopper (capacity: 3cu ft). Step 3: Press the UP or DOWN arrow to INCREASE or DECREASE the speed of the auger. The faster the auger runs, the more product output, the slower the auger runs, the less product output. Adjust accordingly. DRY DELIVERY CONTROL Step 2: Turn ON the Powder Power Switch.

POWDER Operation 21 Step 4: Turn ON the Vibrator Power Switch. When left ON, the Powder Feeder will begin dispensing product when the Treater Hopper senses seed flow. Step 5: When powder product dispenses below the sensor, an alarm will light up and sound. Push the red ALARM PUSH TO SILENCE button. Open the hopper lid, fill the hopper with more product, then push the yellow REST button. This will activate the alarm and the sensor. Turn OFF the Powder Power Switch when done treating with powder product.

22 POWDER Calibration POWDER Calibration Warning! Do NOT run seed or chemical at this time! Step 2: Open the Powder Hopper Lid and add an adequate amount of powder in the Hopper (capacity: 3cu ft). Required seed calibration tools Collection Bin Stopwatch Powder Calibration - S-Series Treating Head Step 1: The Powder Feeder is a volumetric dispenser. Use the Quarter Tun Key to open the Doghouse Door and prop open. Place a collection bin inside the Drum underneath the end of the Powder Feeder Auger to catch the delivered powder. Step 3: Turn ON the Powder Power Switch. Press the UP or DOWN arrow to INCREASE or DECREASE the speed of the auger. The faster the auger runs, the more product output, the slower the auger runs, the less product output. Adjust accordingly.

POWDER Calibration 23 Remove the collection bin from the Drum. Weigh the dispensed powder and compare that amount to the desired rate. If more or less powder is needed, increase or decrease the speed of the Auger on the Dry Delivery Control panel. Step 4: Turn the Vibrator Power Switch to ON. Use the Range Dial to adjust the vibration intensity. The Operator may need to calibrate two or more times to achieve an accurate reading. Variables, such as humidity, temperature, change in powder variety and powder density, changes in the counterweight speed, Drum angle & speed, and liquid product applied can all affect the accuracy of powder calibration and application! To ensure the desired application rate, check powder calibration periodically throughout the day and make adjustments as needed. Step 5: Trip the counterweight by hand for one minute. The Powder Feeder will run as long as the counterweight is tripped.

24 POWDER MAINTENANCE POWDER MAINTENANCE Step 1: At end of each treating session or whenever the operator needs to change powder product, run all of the powder out of the Powder Feeder. Since powder absorbs ambient air moisture and solidifies if left over time, cleaning helps prevent caking up. Have a licensed electrician open the Gear Motor conduit box and disconnect the power cord. Step 3: Always use a vacuum cleaner (not compressed air) to safely clean the machine. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment when working with dust and chemicals: goggles, dust mask, gloves and coveralls. Disconnect Step 2: Use 1/2 wrench to remove the four bolts that hold the Adapter Plate, Gasket and Gear Motor onto the backside of the Powder Base. Slide the Gear Motor (with the Auger and gasket still attached) from the Powder Body and set aside.

POWDER MAINTENANCE 25 Step 4: Thoroughly clean the Auger Assembly of dry product and residue. Step 6: Open the Hopper Lid and clean the interior of any powder build-up. When ready to use, replace the Gear Motor and Auger. Tighten hardware securely. Connect the Gear Motor power cord and replace the conduit box cover. Step 5: Clean the Powder Body interior of any powder build-up.

28 Calibration - SEED Calibration - SEED Warning! Do NOT run chemical at this time! Step 2: Loosen the Tension Spring on the Slide Gate. Pull the Slide Gate out to open the Hopper. Required seed calibration tools Provide a take-away system (conveyor) underneath the discharge end of the drum. The Seed Gate and the Slide gate opening determine the seed flow capacity of the Treater Head. Once adjusted, leave in position. 60 pounds of soybeans equals one bushel. Bushels per hour equal pounds per minute (bu./hr.=lbs. Min.) Seed Calibration - S-Series Treating Head Step 1: Turn the Hand Wheel on the Inlet Hopper to open the Feed Hopper Seed Gate approximately 3/4 wide (refer to the blue Inlet opening Gauge sticker). Step 3: Look inside the Hopper to ensure the inlet throat is open. Tighten the Slide Gate Tension Spring to keep it from closing. Step 4: Touch the DRUM VFD START. PROG RUN AUTO MAN START ENTER FWD REV STOP

Calibration - SEED 29 Step 5: Start the stop watch. Run seed in the hopper, through the drum and out the discharge into the collection bin for one minute. Untreated Seed Counterweight Adjustments To increase the number of trips per minute: Use a 9/16 wrench to loosen the 3/8 Nut on the Counterweight. Move the Counterweight down towards the bottom of the Counterweight Arm and tighten the nut. This will cause the Counterweight to trip more rapidly, increasing the number of trips per minute. To decrease the number of trips per minute: Use a 9/16 wrench to loosen the 3/8 Counterweight Nut. Move the Counterweight up towards the top of the Counterweight Arm and tighten the nut. This will cause the Counterweight to trip more slowly, decreasing the number of trips per minute. Step 6: The Counterweight starts tripping once seed enters the hopper. Count the number of times the Counterweight trips to the right and to the left in one minute. The counterweight arm should trip between 45 and 60 times per minute and is pre-set at the factory in the middle (refer to Theory of Operation, page 15). Example: Weigh the seed that has discharged from the drum in one minute. Example: 300 pounds of seed trips the Counterweight 36 times in one minute: 300 pounds 36 trips = 8.33 pounds per trip. A change in seed size or type will change the seed flow calibration. Re-calibration will be necessary! 300lbs

30 Calibration - LIQUID Calibration - LIQUID Warning! Do NOT run seed at this time! Required liquid calibration tools Graduated Beaker ( cc) Watch or Stopwatch Example: method A; typical 300 pound trip load: Load 300 pounds of seed above the Treater Head Inlet Hopper. Open the Inlet Slide gate and count the number of times the Counterweight trips. Assume 300 pounds of seed trips the Counterweight 36 times: 300 pounds / 36 trips = 8.33 pounds per trip. Formula: = 8.33 To determine the cc/trip, multiply the total cc s per pound times the pound/trip: Warning! Exercise extreme caution when working with chemicals! Refer to the Exposure Control Guide. Formula: 2.37cc x 8.33lb/trip = 19.74cc per trip Select a Chemical Cup size for the Weighpan (if the cc/trip is between Chemical Cup sizes, choose the next size up). For 19.74cc per trip, select the 20cc Chemical Cup size. Establish good treatment flow - select one A Determine the total pounds of seed per trip = seed weight/number of trips (already done, see page 29). B Determine total cc s of treatment per 100 pounds of seed = ounces of treatment per 100 pounds of seed x 29.6 cc s (ounce). C Determine cc s per pound of seed = cc s required per 100 pounds of seed/100. Step 1: Insert each chemical cup in the Dual Bracket Arm inside the Metering Tank. Use a 7/16 wrench to tighten the screws. Allow approximately 1/16 space between cups and the Funnel receptacle. 2 Screws D Determine cc s per Counterweight trip (chemical cup size) = cc s per pound x pounds per trip. Calibration methods - select one A Weigh an amount of seed before running it through the Treater Head. B Dry run the treater for one minute and weigh the seed that has discharged from the Treater (already done, see page 29). 1/16 Gap 1/16 Gap

Calibration - LIQUID 31 Step 2: Check the seed treatment container label for the desired application rate. Typically, it will be listed in fl oz/cwt (per 100 pounds of seed). Step 3: Push on the orange fitting tab and disconnect the supply tube from the spray nozzle elbow fitting on the Treater Head. Place it in a graduated beaker. Convert the ounces listed to cubic centimeters (cc s) before calibrating the Treater Head (1 fl oz = 29.6 cc). RATE PONCHO/VOTIVO 6.3 fl oz/cwt* *cwt = 100 pounds of seed Step 4: Turn the PPS Air Inlet Shut-off Valve ON. Adjust the Filter Regulator air pressure to 50-60psi. Example: 8 ounces per 100 pounds of seed will be the application rate: 236.8/100 = 2.37cc / lb. Formula: 8oz x 29.6cc = 236.8cc per 100 pounds of seed. Step 5: Connect the Tank Agitation Power Cord to an external power source. Tank agitation begins when power cord is connected. Note: Refer to the Treatment Product Label on the chemical jug for the regulated application rate. Follow the direction exactly as stated on the label!

32 Calibration - LIQUID Step 6: Open the Hinged Cover Lid and add Slurry ingredients in the Supply Tank. Allow slurry to mix and agitate for a few minutes. Step 9: Use the Supply Tank Gate Valve to control a constant and even chemical flow to the Metering Tank. Step 7: Open the Gate Valve on the Supply Tank. Step 10: Remove the Metering Tank Lid and monitor the chemical level. Ensure the proper level is maintained (up to the top of the Chemical Overflow Tube Outlets. There should be a constant overflow back to the supply tank. Step 8: Open the Main Supply Ball Valve (located underneath the Tank). Chemical Overflow Tube Outlets Chemical Funnel... Chemical Level Chemical Inlet

Calibration - LIQUID 33 Example: if the required application rate is 10 ounces (296ml) of treatment per hundredweight (cwt) of seed (60lbs in 1 minute), the desired amount of treatment that needs to fill the calibration beaker in 1 minute would be 177.6ml ml 100cwt = 2.96ml x 60lbs = Step 11: The PPS Gate Valve controls the output of treatment to the Spray Nozzle inside the Drum. Adjust the flow of chemical with the Gate Valve (increase or decrease) to maintain the proper chemical flow. A slow even pulse is desired rather than fast pulsing. Step 12: Capture the dispensed chemical in a graduated beaker. This helps to prevent cavitation: the formation and collapse of low-pressure air bubbles in liquids (pulsate). Turn the Gate Valve < LEFT to open and increase chemical flow. Turn the Gate Valve > RIGHT to close and decrease chemical flow. Once the desired slow pulsating rhythm is achieved, leave the Gate Valve set in position and do not adjust. Chemical will overflow the Metering Tank through the Chemical Overflow Tube Outlets and back to the Supply Tank. Step 13: Manually trip the Counterweight Arm from side to side at the same rate it was tripping during the dry run (refer to page 29). Tripping the Counterweight Arm also moves the Chemical Cups (in the Metering Tank) to dispense chemical into the PPS and into the graduated beaker. Use a watch or stopwatch to time the calibration run of the Pump for one minute. Turn OFF or unplug Tank Pump power cord. Measure the liquid treatment caught in the beaker. Write down the amount of treatment chemical (cc) that pumped into the calibration beaker in one minute. Empty the calibration beaker contents back into the Supply Tank for reuse. Close the Tank Air Inlet Shut-off Valve.

34 Calibration Example: assume the Counterweight Arm tripped 12 times and dispensed 240cc s of liquid treatment in the beaker (12 trips = 240cc). The desired calculation indicates: Step 14: When finished calibrating, insert the Supply Tube to the Spray Nozzle Elbow Fitting. Formula: 12 x 19.74cc = 236.9cc This results in 3.1cc over the desired application rate. Decrease Liquid Output Loosen the two screws on the Cup Arm and move the Chemical Cups further away from the Funnel and increase the gap to 1/8. Tighten screws. 2 Screws 1/8 gap 1/8 gap It is highly recommended that calibration checks be made periodically throughout the day, to help ensure proper application rates are achieved. Increase Liquid Output Loosen the two screws on the Cup Arm and move the Chemical Cups closer to the Funnel or change to another Cup size. Tighten screws. Repeat the calibration procedure (pages 30-33) until desired chemical output is achieved. 2 Screws 1/32 gap 1/32 gap

Exposure Control 35 Exposure Control Always use caution and common sense when working with chemicals. Read the product label and SDS carefully and follow their instructions exactly as described. The following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) recommendations and best practices help promote safe use in seed treatment. Wear protective clothing Wear disposable or reusable coveralls with long sleeves. Hand protection required Wear chemical-resistant gloves. Treatment products Keep products in a locked room that has been approved for crop protection products. Wear a mask Wear respiratory protection. Wear rubber boots Wear chemical resistant rubber boots. Eye protection required Wear protective eyewear. Labels Label recommendations and directions for handling must be followed, including treatment procedure (use of sticker) as well as the safety requirements. Calibration Seed treatment equipment must be checked and calibrated regularly to ensure accurate and safe application. Clean seed Use well cleaned seed to avoid creation of polluted dust that will contaminate the treating facility, workers, farmers and the environment during sowing. Cleaning Use a vacuum to clean machines and coveralls. Never use compressed air. Laundry Wash soiled reusable clothing separately. Workers must take a shower after each shift. Empty containers Non-returnable empty containers must be triple rinsed before they can be disposed. For others the recommendation of the producer must be followed. Spillage Spillage must be avoided; it must be thoroughly cleaned up to avoid contaminating the environment and waterways. Maintenance Keep machinery clean between treating sessions.

36 MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE Changing S-Head Spray Nozzles Step 1: Loosen the two machine screws and washers holding the Spray Nozzle Assembly to the Weighpan Housing. Remove the Spray Nozzle Assembly from the Weighpan Housing. Step 2: Use two crescent wrenches to loosen and remove the Spray Tip from the Spray Nozzle Holder. Select a different Spray Tip using the guidelines on the next page, 27. Place the new Spray Tip in the Spray Nozzle Holder. Ensure the Spray Tip is positioned in the correct orientation. Thread the Spray Tip Nozzle back onto the assembly and tighten in place with two crescent wrenches. Replace the Spray Nozzle Assembly in the Weighpan Housing. Tighten the machine screws that hold the Spray Nozzle Assembly to the Weighpan Housing.

MAINTENANCE 37 Spray Nozzle Selection Guide Spray nozzle selection determines the spray droplet pattern. Nozzle flow rates vary with spraying pressure. Three spray patterns can be achieved with different nozzles. Small Nozzle (8006) Fog or mist of fine droplets resulting in fair seed coverage covering minimal amount of seed. PSD Tank - Standard In-line Filter Step 1: Close the Main Supply Ball Valve (located underneath the Tank). Large Nozzle (8030) Blotchy dribbles and a waterfall effect resulting in poor coverage covering very little seed. Medium Nozzle (8015) Fan spray resulting in wide spray pattern and good coverage covering maximum seed. Tee Jet Nozzles Begin treating with the factorysupplied medium nozzle Step 2: Remove the Basket and check filter for clogging issues. Place a drip pan or bucket beneath the filter and unscrew the Basket from the cap. Remove the filter from the basket and clean thoroughly. Low Volume Treating (400bu/hr. + 4oz/cwt application rate) small nozzle (8006) may be the best choice for optimal seed coverage. Medium Volume Treating (600bu/hr. + 6oz/cwt application rate) medium nozzle (8015) may be the best choice for optimal seed coverage. High Volume Treating (800bu/hr. + 12oz/cwt application rate) large nozzle (8030) may be the best choice for optimal seed coverage. Seed volume + chemical viscosity + chemical application rate + air temperature can all affect the final outcome of the spray droplet pattern and overall seed coverage. Step 3: Ensure the gasket is seated correctly within the groove. Replace the filter inside the Filter basket and hand tighten the Basket back onto the In-line Filter.

38 MAINTENANCE PSD Tank - Premium Filter Step 1: Close the Main Supply Ball Valve (located underneath the Tank). End of Season Shut-down Step 1: Loosen the two machine screws and washers holding the Spray Nozzle Assembly to the Weighpan Housing. Remove the Spray Nozzle Assembly from the Weighpan Housing. Place the Spray Nozzle Assembly in a 5 gallon bucket. Step 2: Check filters periodically for clogging issues. Use a 9/16 wrench to remove the cover from the basket. Remove the filter from the basket and clean thoroughly. Step 3: Replace the cover on the filter basket. Use a 9/16 wrench to tighten the two bolts on the Basket. Step 2: Plug in or turn ON the Tank Agitation Motor. Fill the Supply Tank with CLEAN water.

39 Running Title - Chose One Color for Every Chapter MAINTENANCE 39 Step 3: Open the Main Supply Ball Valve (located underneath the Tank). Drain Supply Tank Step 1: Close the Main Supply Valve under the Tank. Close the Drain Valve. Use a crescent wrench to remove the 3/4 Pipe Plug under the Drain Valve. Connect a hose with 3/4 Male fitting to the Drain Valve (customer supplied). Collection container must be sufficiently large enough to contain the remaining contents of the Tank: up to 50, 100, 200 or 500 gallons (the same size as the PSD Tank used). Open the Main Supply and Drain Valves. Step 4: Ensure the Bypass Gate Valve is OPEN. Allow water to fill the Metering Tank and overflow and return to the Supply Tank through the Overflow Tubes. This will flush all treatment and return lines. DO NOT RUN INTO A SEWER DRAIN! Drain Valve Remove Plug Main Supply Valve Step 5: Manually trip the Counterweight Arm from side to side to dispense water through the PPS and into the Spray Nozzle Assembly in a bucket. Allow the Supply Tank Pump to run for a while, dispensing water throughout the Supply Tank, Treater Metering Tank, Spray Nozzle Assembly and Overflow Tubes and returning back into the Supply Tank. When finished, turn OFF or unplug the Supply Tank Agitation Motor and Pump. Drain Hose

40 MAINTENANCE Step 2: Close the Flow Control Valve on the Supply Tank. Ensure the Bypass Gate Valve is OPEN. Plug in or turn ON the Supply Tank Pump. Repeat filling, running and draining the Supply Tank until thoroughly clean. Turn OFF or unplug the Supply Tank Agitation Motor and Pump when finished. Step 5: Use the tank brush provided to thoroughly scrub and clean the Supply Tank of any residual chemical. Step 6: Use rags to wipe clean the entire Supply Tank. Discard rags properly. Step 3: Remove the hose with 3/4 Male fitting from the Drain Valve. Replace the 3/4 Pipe Plug on the Drain Valve. Use a crescent wrench to tighten in place. Step 7: Remove the Metering Tank Cover. Use rags to wipe clean the entire Metering Tank and Chemical Cups. Discard rags responsibly. Step 4: Use a putty knife to scrape and clean any residue buildup of chemical and seed inside the Tank. Flush all liquid treatment pumping systems daily to prevent buildup or corrosion. Note: Rinse water (gray water) may be saved and used with the next slurry mix or dispose of properly, according to state and local regulations. Failure to clean the tank properly, or failure to completely drain all liquid from the pump and lines after use, may damage the equipment and void any warranties expressed or implied.

Recommendations for Good Seed Treatment Application 41 Recommendations for Good Seed Treatment Application As a seed treatment applicator, you play an important role in helping protect the health of our honey bee population. This guide provides recommendations for responsible stewardship practices and proper seed treatment procedures that can help maximize the benefits to your customers operations by supporting bee health and ensuring a healthy environment and abundant food supply for future generations. Live by the label For your own safety and to protect the environment, we recommend the following precautions: Read and understand all product labels prior to application. Read and understand your seed treatment equipment operator s manual. Keep seed treatment products and treated seed out of each of children, livestock and wildlife. Store seed treatment products and treated seed under appropriate conditions. Wear protective clothing and gloves to avoid contact with skin and respiratory tract during seed treatment application and equipment cleaning. Refer to product label and MSDS for required PPE. Storage & Disposal After seed treatment is completed, review this checklist: Ensure that any leftover product is returned to the original containers and properly stored for future use. Do not reuse empty seed treatment product containers for any other purposes. Dispose of empty containers according to local and state regulations and container return policies. Offer empty containers for recycling if permitted. Return empty returnable containers to the manufacturer promptly. Dispose of contaminated seed treatment wastes according to local and state regulations.

42 Recommendations for Good Seed Treatment Application Applying Seed Treatment When it s time for seed treatment applications, consider these guidelines: Treat only high-quality seed that has been cleaned well and is free of seed dust fragments to avoid creating dust in the treating facility, as well as during seed handling and planting by the grower. Utilize only high-quality seed treatment products designed specifically and / or recommended for seed treatment by the manufacturer. Use appropriate seed conveying equipment to minimize mechanical damage and the creation of seed dust both prior to and after treatment application. Assure that seed treatment equipment operators are trained in the proper use of the equipment, including calibration and procedures to ensure accurate application. Assure seed treatment equipment is appropriate for the crop, treatment and rates being applied. Follow the seed treatment manufacturer s coating recommendation. Coatings can provide a number of benefits including improves seed flow and plantability, but are principally used to control the loss of active ingredient from treated seed. Do not eliminate the coating or deviate from the manufacturer s recommended dose, as it will increase the potential for loss of active ingredient as well as exposure from dust abrasion. Monitor the seed treatment application accuracy by comparing the amount of product used versus the amount of seed treated to avoid under- or over-applying. If out of balance, recalibrate the seed treating equipment. If spills occur, clean area promptly and dispose of spilled material properly according to local regulations. If you have questions, concerns, or a potential incident involving bees or bee health, please call at any time.
