Treatment products Keep products in a locked room that has been approved for crop protection products. Wear a mask Wear respiratory protection. Disconnect Disconnect to de-energize before opening. Calibration Seed treatment equipment must be checked and calibrated regularly to ensure accurate and safe application. Lifting Requires two people to safely lift an item. Pinch points entanglement Do not wear loose clothing around turning parts. Eye protection required Wear protective eyewear. Lift points Requires the use of proper rigging and lifting techniques based on the lift plan. General Safety Warning Caution When Working With Treated Seed Keep hands, loose clothing and hair away from all moving parts. Do not operate without safety shields in place. Disconnect from power source when making adjustments or servicing. Treated seed is harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Avoid inhalation and contact with eyes, skin or clothing. Wash thoroughly with soap and water after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. If contact occurs with eyes, flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention if eye, skin or respiratory irritation persists. Seek prompt medical attention if swallowed. Treat symptomatically. 4

6 INITALLATION Note: Several basic requirements are necessary to ensure proper equipment installation. Read through and understand this manual. Caution: Removing BOX banding can cause injury! Wear proper personal protective equipment: gloves and safety glasses. Place one hand on the banding above the cut, while standing to the side of the banding, as shown below. This will reduce the chance of banding flying out of control, causing injury. Discard banding material responsibly. Arrival / Transportation The treater will be shipped in a box on a pallet, as shown left. Use a material handling device to lift the box off the shipping truck. Treater in a box on a pallet Unpacking your new CF35 machine Step 1: Use snips to cut metal bands from around the box. Use proper cutting technique, as shown left. Box metal banding 6

7 Step 2: Remove the cover from the box. Step 3: Remove the top two cardboard inserts. Step 4: Remove the side insert. 7

8 Step 5: Remove spare parts box from inlet hopper. Set aside for future use. Step 6: Remove the bubble wrapped braces. Set aside for future use. Step 7: Remove four leg boxes. Set aside for future use. 8

9 Step 8: Remove the discharge transition box. Set aside for future use. Step 9: Remove one side and then the other side of the box. Step 10: Remove other side of the box. 9

10 Step 11: Properly rig and lift the treater out of the bottom tray of the shipping box. Treater dry weight: 159kg (350lbs). Step 12: Carefully set the treater tipped on the backside (motor end) on a clean surface, s shown left. Step 13: Place wood risers underneath the bottom side (drum) of the treater frame, as shown left. 10

12 Assembly Step 1: Remove the four legs from their packaging and slide each one into the frame tube with the last two bolt holes exposed, as shown left. This will be the lowest setting the legs will allow. Note the orientation of the leg feet, as shown. Step 2: Insert 3 bolts (3/8-16 x 2-1/4 ) into each frame tube, connecting the leg to the frame, as shown. Note the orientation: bolt head faces towards the outside of the frame, 3/8-16 HEX nut is underneath, on the inside of the frame. Hand tighten each nut. Step 3: Insert and hand tighten the stabilizing bolt (3/8-16 x 3/4 ) in the side of the frame tube, as shown. 12

13 Step 4: Set the two long braces in place between the two outside legs on both side of the treater, over the two exposed bolt holes on each leg. There is a right and left long brace. Note their orientation. Insert hex bolts (5/16-18 x 2) and hex nuts (1/4-20) as shown. Hand tighten. 13

14 Step 5: Install the two short braces over bolt holes between each long brace, as shown. Insert hex bolts (1/4-20 x 5/8) and hand tighten hex nuts (5/16-18), as shown. Step 6: Use a hand drill or adjustable wrench to tighten all leg and brace hardware. Step 7: Set the discharge transition on frame and bolt (1/4x1-1/2 ) in place, using flat washer (1/4 ) between frame and discharge, as shown. Securely tighten. 14

15 Step 8: Slide the double bagger over the end of the discharge transition. Use a mallet to snug up into place so bolt holes align properly. Insert bolt (1/4x1/2 ) and flat washer (1/4 ) and lock washer (1/4 ) into both sides. Securely tighten. Step 9: Properly rig and lift the treater in the upright position. Treater dry weight: 159 kg (350 Lbs). Step 10: Tighten the Frame bolt behind the drum motor. 15

16 Step 11: Use a mallet to insert the four black tube plugs into the top of the Frame, as shown left. Step 12: Insert the manual mixer handle into the poly chemical tank cover. Flat edge faces bolt as shown. Use wrench to tighten bolt in place. 16

17 Step 13: Place the calibration beaker up under the tubing and set on shelf, as shown left. Step 14: Place the pump control on the shelf next to the pump. Step 15: Connect the pump 3-pin LS pump power cord into the back of the LS pump control. 17

18 Step 16: Plug the control panel power cord into the back of the LS control. Connect the other end to the control panel power cord pigtail. Connect LS power cord (back of controller) Connect LS power cord to control box pigtail LS power cord connected to control box 18

19 Step 17: Open the LS pump head. The pump head will be shipped in the closed position. Move the pump head handle to the left to open, as shown left. Place the Pump Element onto the pump roller, as shown left. Align the Pump Element behind the plastic clips, to ensure proper fit, as shown left. Step 18: Close the LS pump head. Move the pump head handle right to close, as shown left. 19

20 Warning! Drum band must be removed prior to running the Drum, to prevent damage to the Drum! Caution! Removing Drum band can cause injury! Wear proper personal protective equipment: gloves and safety glasses. Place one hand on the banding above the cut, while standing to the side of the banding. This will reduce the chance of banding flying out of control, causing injury. Discard used banding material responsibly. Step 19: Use snips to cut the banding that holds the Drum down onto the Drum Frame during shipping. 20

21 Step 20: Ensure a licensed electrician wires the control box to an external power source, following the National Electrical Codes for the area. The motor tor should rotate in the direction the sticker on the motor indicates (clockwise when looking at the discharge end of the treater). Control box Inside control box LS Pump Controller LS Pump controller Flow Direction REV runs the pump Clockwise and FWD runs the pump Counter- clockwise, as indicated by the arrow direction graphic above each mode setting. Power Green light Indicates the Pump is active when the switch is in either FWD or REV modes. It will turn off when the switch is in the OFF position. Speed Use the speed indicator to set the speed of the pump. The higher the number, the faster the speed of the pump. Once the desired speed is determined, use the small locking tab under the speed indicator to lock in the speed. Unlock when the speed needs to be changed. 21

22 Changing Pump Elements Step 1: Ensure the LS Pump Control Switch is in the OFF position, as shown left. Step 2: To change a pump element, open the LS pump head and remove the pump element from the pump rollers, as shown left. Step 3: Disconnect the element assembly connected to the tank elbow and the calibration valve. 22

23 Step 4: Push in orange ring and pull fitting out of receptacle, as shown. Step 5: Insert the pump element onto the pump roller. Align the Pump Element behind the plastic clips, to ensure proper fit, as shown. Step 6: Close the LS Pump Head. Use the pump head handle and move to the right to close. CF35 Installation is now complete. 23

24 35 kg CALIBRATION Warning! Do NOT run chemical at this time! Required calibration tools Stopwatch or watch with a second hand. Collection bin (at least 35 kg). Recommended Gate openings Maize = 3 Soya = 2 1/2 Cereals = 1 1/2 Seed Calibration Step1: Push in on the black knob (seed gate arm) to move the arm until the top of the seed gate reaches the mark on the label for the intended seed type (refer to RECOMMENDED GATE OPENINGS, above). Release the black knob to set the seed flow control open. Best if done from the side of the treater rather than straight- on facing the seed gate arm. Set the seed gate opening Step 2: Loosen the wing nut on the Seed Gate Arm and lower the arm stop on top of the Seed Gate Arm. Seed gate arm stop 24

25 Step 3: Place a collection bin underneath the double bagger, to catch spent seeds. Step 4: Turn the manual 3-way valve UP to the TREAT mode position, as shown. Step 5: Turn the control panel DRUM switch to the ON position, as shown. 25

26 Step 6: Fill the seed hopper with a pre-determined amount of seed, example: 20 kg, and start the stop watch. 20 kg The treater will run the batch of seed through the hopper and discharge into the collection bin underneath the double bagger. Step 7: Determine how long it took all 20 kg of seed to run through the treater. Example: (20kg 50sec) x 60 = 24kg/min. Stop the watch when all 20 kg has emptied from the seed hopper. For demonstration purposes only, assume 20 kg of seed ran through the seed hopper in 50 seconds. Therefore, the CF35 would be calibrated to treat 24 kg of seed per minute (60 seconds). Note: Seed size and seed type will always run at different rates. Operator must calibrate whenever seed type and / or seed size is changed! Step 8: The seed gate can be adjusted to restrict or open seed flow. Open the seed gate (maximum 3.0 ) for full flow, or close the gate down (1/2 ) for greatest seed flow restriction. Recommended Gate openings Maize = 3 Soya = 2 1/2 Cereals = 1 1/2 Once the desired seed flow is achieved, keep the seed gate set, until a new seed variety or size is introduced for treating. 26

27 Step 9: Once the desired seed flow is achieved, turn the control panel drum switch to OFF. Warning! Wear proper personal protective equipment when working with chemicals: long sleeves, chemical resistant gloves and a face respirator >> Note: Refer to the Treatment Product Label on the chemical jug for the regulated application rate. Follow the direction exactly as stated on the label! Chemical Calibration Step 1: Ensure the calibration beaker is properly placed underneath the calibration tube. Turn the manual 3-way valve down to the left, in CALIBRATION mode, as shown. 27

28 Step 2: Open the tank cover lid and pour in desired chemical product (s). Use the tank stir handle to thoroughly mix the chemical product. Step 3: Turn the pump switch to the right clockwise. The pump will run, priming chemical from the tank, through the pump head and into the calibration beaker. Allow the pump to run until chemical is streaming into the calibration beaker. Step 4: Turn the Pump Switch to OFF. 28

29 Step 5: Empty the calibration beaker thoroughly into the chemical tank and replace beneath the calibration tube. Step 6: Turn the pump switch ON to the right clockwise and use the stopwatch to time the calibration pump run for one minute. Step 7: After one minute, turn the pump Switch to OFF. Write down the amount of treatment chemical (ml) that pumped into the calibration beaker in one minute. Then empty the calibration beaker contents back into the chemical tank for reuse. 29

30 Example: if the required application rate is 10 ounces (296ml) of treatment per hundredweight (cwt) of seed (60lbs in 1 minute), the desired amount of treatment that needs to fill the calibration beaker in 1 minute would be 177.6ml ml 100cwt = 2.96ml x 60lbs = Note: Speed Indicator sets the speed of the pump. The higher the number, the faster the speed of the pump... Turn dial right or left. 296ml 100cwt = 2.96ml x 60lbs = It is highly recommended that calibration checks be made periodically throughout the day, to help ensure proper application rates are achieved. Multiple calibration runs may need to be made by adjusting the LS pump speed, until the desired amount of chemical pumped reaches the target amount. The calibration process will need to be repeated whenever a new seed type or seed size is introduced into the treating process. Changes beyond the control of the operator or the functionality of the machine, such as temperature, humidity and wind speed throughout the day, can affect the calibration. Prime treatment line Step 1: Once calibration process is complete, then turn the 3-way valve UP to the TREAT mode position, as shown. 30

31 Step 2: Pull the treatment tube out and remove it from the application cap, located on top of the inlet transition on the discharge end of the treater. Step 3: Place the treatment tube inside the calibration beaker, as shown. Step 4: Turn the pump switch to the right clockwise and run the LS pump to prime chemical to the treatment tube. 31

32 Step 5: Once chemical begins to fill the calibration beaker, turn the switch to OFF. Step 6: Empty the spent chemical in the calibration beaker back into the chemical tank. Replace treatment tube back into the application tube cap, as shown. Seed & Chemical Calibration is now complete. Note: The tubing should push into the tube cab approximately 4 in order to reach the bottom of the applicator tube. 32

33 OPERATION Warning! Wear proper personal protective equipment when bagging treated seed: long sleeves, chemical resistant gloves and a face respirator >> Tip: Always treat clean seed! This can also affect the seed flow rate. Treat mode Step 1: When ready to begin treating seed, ensure a collection bin or bagging device is affixed to the double bagger, to catch treated seed. Step 2: Fill the inlet hopper with seed (up to 180kg). 33

34 Step 3: The seed gate should be set, according to Calibration, as described on page 26. Once the desired seed flow is achieved, keep the seed gate set, until a new seed variety or size is introduced for treating (already set during Calibration, refer to page 26). Step 4: Turn the pump switch ON to the right clockwise. Seed will begin flowing into the drum, where it will mix with the seed treatment chemical and then discharge out of the drum through, the double bagger. Step 5: Turn the control panel DRUM switch to the ON position, as shown. 34

35 Note: Refer to the Treatment Product Label on the chemical jug for the regulated application rate. Follow the direction exactly as stated on the label! If untreated seed is coming out the discharge during treating, it means the treater is running too fast and seed is overflowing the inlet transition. Slow down the seed flow rate by restricting the seed gate opening. Step 6: When finished treating seed, turn the switch to OFF. Step 7: Turn the control panel drum switch to OFF. 35

36 Step 8: Turn the pump switch to the left counter clockwise to empty unused chemical from the treatment lines back into the 4 gallon chemical tank. Step 9: When finished returning chemical to tank, turn the Pump Switch to OFF. This completes CF35 Operation. 36

37 MAINTENANCE Warning! Wear proper personal protective equipment when working with chemicals: long sleeves, chemical resistant gloves and a face respirator >> End of season shut down Step 1: Ensure the Pump Control Power Switch and Drum switches are set to the OFF position, as shown. Ensure the 3-way valve is in the TREAT mode, as shown. 37

38 Step 2: Pull the treatment tube out and remove it from the application cap, located on top of the inlet transition on the discharge end of the treater. Place the tubing in an empty 5 gallon pail, as shown. Step 3: Open the tank cover lid and ill it with clean water. Step 4: Turn the pump switch FWD to the left counter clockwise to empty the 4 gallon chemical tank. This will also clean out all treatment lines of residue chemical. 38

39 Step 5: Turn the control panel DRUM switch to the ON position, as shown. Step 6: When finished emptying the chemical tank, turn the Pump switch to OFF. Save rinse water in the 5 gallon pail for the next treating session or dispose of properly, according to the label on the container of chemical treatment product. 39

40 Step 7: Turn the control panel drum switch to OFF. Step 8: Replace treatment tube back into the application tube cap, as shown. Note: The tubing should push into the tube cab approximately 4 in order to reach the bottom of the applicator tube. 40

41 ! Warning! Leaving the pump element in the pump head in the closed position over a duration of time will permanently leave a flat spot on the pump element. Step 9: Release the pump head to relieve pressure on the pump element for long term storage. Can disconnect the element assembly connected to the tank elbow and the calibration valve. Pump Fuse Step 1: Remove and replace the fuse if necessary (located under the Power Cord). 41

42 Filter clean out Step 1: CLOSE the tank valve. Step 2: Unscrew to remove filter housing by hand, as shown. 42

43 Step 3: Remove 20 mesh filter screen from filter housing. Clean filter housing thoroughly. Clean filter screen thoroughly and replace in filter housing. Replace 20 mesh filter screen, if needed. Replace O-ring, if needed. Step 4: Replace filter housing. Hand tighten ONLY! Step 5: Turn tank valve to open flow position, as shown. CF35 Maintenance is complete. 43
