UI: When the thermal breaker is tripped it will get quite hot. o reset the breaker: hut off power to the panel. Find and repair the short. estore the 24V power. PU: -20 to 160 F (-29 to 71 ) HUIDI: 0% - 95% H on-ondensing. he U4 allows constant operation of the Indoor Fan by hermostat #1 only, or by each individual thermostat. Use your finger tip or the eraser head of a pencil. Wire the U4 into your building Fire larm system, and achieve full HV system shutdown, and losure of all Duct dampers, in the event of Fire ode ctivation. he circuit is normally closed and must open to activate this mode. Fail afe dry contact is required on the Fire larm ystem. When the Fire alarm system resets to normal, the U4 will also resume normal operation. lip the on-board jumper and wire as shown on page 17. he U4 includes a arbon Dioxide and Fresh ir interface feature. Wire the U4 up to a separate 2 onitor with auxilary dry contacts. When the 2 onitor activates, the U4 will open a fresh air damper connected to it s damper terminal block, and start the HV system fan. he circuit is normally open and must close to activate this mode. normally open dry contact is required on the 02 onitor or Fresh air imer or ther Device. When the 2 monitor resets to a normal 2 level, the U4 will close the fresh air /auxilary damper. ther external dry contact devices can be connected to the 2 terminals such as a anual witch, nthalpy ontrol, or lockimer. ee page 16. : ooling & Heating operations are not affected by activation of this feature. : ctivation of the Fire larm Interlock feature will over-ride the 2 onitor feature. UXIL or DeHUIDIF IF L nhanced omfort olution uxiliary dry PD output his feature is affected by Heat/ool perations Fire larm ctivation ver-rides this feature LI P DP UPP FU nhanced irflow olution Fire larm ctivation ver-rides this feature he U4 includes an uxiliary Interface Input and PD action Dry ontact utput. his allows the Installer to connect various uxiliary controls such as Humidify or DeHumidify controls. imply connect the ontrolled Device or ircuit to the utput dry contacts and achieve integrated control without 3rd party isolating relays. ee Page 14 and 15 for example control and wiring solutions. he uxiliary input logic can be field selected as (D) Direct cting to humidify or () everse cting to Dehumidify. he U4 activates a unique algorithm to rapidly de-humidify the home without over-cooling it. ee page 14. he U4 includes support for an lectronic ypass Damper. Wire up a W odel D ypass Damper to achieve precise control of the HV system static pressure and bypass damper operations. Wire up the odel D damper as shown on page 17. he U4 defaults the ypass Damper to the pen position during IDL periods. It will also maintain that position for 45 seconds; at the start of any thermostat demand for Heating, ooling, or Fan only peration. he 45 second time delay allows a constant or variable speed fan to start in a Quiet ode and does away with noisy air duct velocities upon system startup. Latent cooling effect is also achieved by using this feature. fter 45 seconds the U4 will release control of the system static pressure to the D diaphragm control and a gradual increase in system static pressure is achieved. : he U4 will not resume control of the D, until the next IDL period begins. 4 U4 DVD FIW D HDW FU IUD U I II FU nhanced HV ystem afety and nergy avings olution ote: If this feature is nabled but the is not connected or is not detected; he LD will blink rapidly as a warning and he U4 will not allow operations to occur. ote: When the eturn ir sensor detects a return air temperature between the tage Up Value and the tage Down Value, the LD will blink slowly as a warning. he U4 will also hold at the current staging until the system status changes sufficiently to allow a stage up or down. he U4 includes a U I PU I feature. onnect an PIL eturn ir ensor (#) to the U4 and achieve the ability to DW the HV system if the return air temperature exceeds the return air temperature limit set points. et the Dipswitch #6 to the position, and choose either (0) or (+10) at the LII Dipswitch # 7. oth switches are located on the Dipswitch ank#2. he U4 will now monitor the return air temperature and allow tage up, or if necessary tage Down the cooling or heating operation to maintain a return air temperature within the following values. s stated above, choose either (0) to accept the default return air limit values for your particular HV system or choose (+10) to offset the default values 10 degrees higher. ote: he (+10) offset applies to heating operations only. he default return air temperature limit set points for cooling operations cannot be offset. Default +10 applies to heating operations only. he eturn ir ensing Feature cannot cycle the 1st stage equipment off-line. It can only force a tage Down when the equipment is in 2nd stage cool or 2nd, 3rd, or 4th stage heat, and the selected return air set points above have been exceeded. he upply ir ensing feature is the only monitor that can cycle the 1st stage equipment off-line. three minute delay will occur after a forced stage down. Damper otor terminal blocks are isolated and powered separately. his simplifies your wiring, reduces the chances of polarity reversal and allows more connected dampers per zone. DI DUL FUL PIL FIW he U4 is fully compatible with Dual Fuel Heat Pumps, and other Hybrid HV systems. Dual Fuel kits are not required. elect staging based on djustable ime Delay, an ptional utside ir temperature ensor, or allow the thermostats to control staging. he intelligent firmware does the rest. PID D-HUIDIF FIW he U4 will perform a unique de-humidify function when a demand to de-humidify is detected at the uxilary Input terminal. he U4 will energize the mergency heat relay to activate one electric strip bank at the same time the cool is active, so long as the demand to de-humidify is detected. his powerful feature will rapidly de-humidify your home, and tempers (reheats) the supply air to prevent over-cooling. ee Page 14 for details. 2 DD D VILI UPP he U4 includes support for Demand ased Ventilation ontrol scenarios. UID I HV * U LD s ILUDD LL DUL * ULI- H DJUL LII L * LI P DP UPP * UXIL ULI-FUI UPP L * D K PILI * IPLIFID WII D UP * FI L IF HI DD UP LL he U4 is the first one ontrol ystem to allow 4 stage thermostats to be connected to all zones he U4 is capable of numerous staging sequences depending on the type of HV system being controlled, the type of thermostats connected, and the programmed staging sequence you desire. s always you can still control a multi-stage HV system using inexpensive single stage thermostats and sequence the staging by on-board adjustable time delay, or by using an optional outdoor air sensor () and sequence the staging via an outdoor air set point. ou can still control a state of the art multi-stage Heat Pump using single or two stage conventional thermostats and sequence the staging by time delay or outside air set point. ou can choose to control most any multi-stage Heat Pump or onventional HV system with multi-stage thermostats on all zones. he U4 can be programmed to stage up or down based on the thermostat inputs from each zone. he U4 allows a level of versatility that has never before been offered by any zoning company. ou can choose to install 3 or 4 stage thermostats on the largest zones, 2 stage thermostats on medium sized zones and single stage thermostats on the small zones. o achieve staging via thermostatic demand only; hoose () imer setting on Dipswitch #5 ank 1 nd then set the ulti-tage imer setting to (0) ero. etting the imer to zero disables imed taging and the U4 will stage up or down only when the thermostat(s) demand it. Use a pencil to fill in the square & record your settings. If the settings get changed later on, you will have a record of the original settings. : When you choose HP at switch #1, ank 1, the fan mode is automatically set for you. here is no need to move switch #8, ank1. Leave it in the factory setting. Failure to properly set all dip switches to the correct and/or desired positions will result in improper operation of the controlled HV ystem. Please read and study the entire echnical ulletin and if necessary, all the W echnical upport Hotline when assistance is required. 7 electing the ptions Using the DIP witches - K1 1 2 HP < > hoose the type of HV system you want to control. elect HP, if your system is any type of heat pump. elect, if your system is a any type of as / il furnace, or any straight lectric furnace or Hydronic (hot water / steam) heating system. DF < HP > V If you chose HP at switch #1, then choose the type of Heat Pump you want to control. elect DF, if your system is a Dual Fuel heat pump with as or il furnace backup heat. elect V, if your system is a onventional heat pump with lectric resistance backup / supplemental heat. lso applies to round source / eothermal heat pumps with lectric backup heat. 3 FF < F P > elect, if you want the U4 to force the indoor blower at the end of a heat/cool call to assist the zone purge cycle. electing FF will allow the HV system to operate the indoor blower, without interference from the U < PU > 180 elect 90 or 180, if you want the zone dampers to hold position for 90 seconds or 180 seconds at the end of any heat or cool call. his allows the HV system to purge the remaining hot or cold air, into the zone(s) that were calling for it. 5 6 < > elect, if you want to delay multi-stage operations based on the outside air temperature sensor. elect I, if you want to delay stage up based on the adjustable on-board timer. oth features are very useful when using single stage thermostats on all zones. 1: / stage up defaults to a 30 minute delay, when is chosen. 2: n optional utside ir ensor (Part#) is required to use the feature. 3: hermostat demands to stage up, will always over-ride the imer or staging operations, Unless the 50% rule has been enabled, or the eturn ir temperature limit has been exceeded. 4: hermostatic demands to tage Down will be honored unless the imer is also in use. 5: Disable the imer by setting to FF, and the U4 will obey tage up & tage down demands via the thermostats only! FF < 50% UL > elect FF, if you do not want to inhibit two stage compressor cooling operations based on the total number of zones calling. elect, if you want to inhibit 2nd stage cooling compressor based on the total number of zones calling. Half or more of the total number of thermostats must be calling or stage up will not occur. 1: In ll odes, the 50% rule occurs between and. 2: In as mode the 50% rule occurs between &. 3: If Dual Fuel or has been selected, the 50% rule applies to cooling only. Heating stage up will not be affected by this setting. mergency mode is never affected by the 50% rule. 7 FF < > elect FF, if you do not want to use the upply air sensor included with the U4 one ontrol system. elect, if you want to use the included upply air sensor. efer to the data sheet included with the upply air sensor for installation details. efer to page 2 for details on upply air ensing Limit ontrols and settings. ount the upply ir ensor in the discharge duct and/or plenum. 8 < F > HDI elect, if your HV system is a gas or oil forced air furnace. elect HDI, if your HV system has a hot water / steam coil, or straight electric heat with no indoor blower support. Useful when you need the indoor blower to run automatically in heat mode, just like it does in cool mode. : When you select HP on dip switch #1, the indoor fan mode is automatically set for you. 8 1 2 electing the ptions Using the DIP witches - K2 H < > HP elect the type of thermostats you want to use. elect H, if your thermostats are the standard Heat/ool type. elect HP, if your thermostats are Heat Pump types. 1: ou cannot mix thermostat types. 2: ou do not need HP thermostats to control a Heat Pump. 3: hermostat demands to stage up, will always over-ride the imer or staging operations, unless the 50% rule has been enabled. 4: hermostatic demands to stage down will be honored unless the imer is in use. IP : he U4 one ontrol ystem allows Heat Pump or onventional ulti-tage thermostats to be wired to all ones! hermostat demands to stage up, will always over-ride any programmed staging operation. he U4 will remain in ulti-stage mode until that terminal is de-energized. If this occurs in dual fuel mode or emergency mode, the U4 will stay in that mode until all Heating demands are satisfied. n the next heating cycle, the U4 will attempt to activate 1st stage heat unless, mergency ode is still active, or the outdoor temperature is low and / DF has been selected. his comfort over-ride feature provides true versatility to your zoning system, and gives the homeowner comfort control capability over the system. 1 < # > 2 hoose the number of ondensing Unit tages you want to control. elect 1, if your U has a connection only. elect 2, if your U has a & connection. 1: his feature must be set correctly for proper imed & utdoor ir ensor staging operations. 2: hermostat demands to stage up, will always ver-ride the imer & staging operations, unless the 50% rule has been enabled, or the eturn air temperature limit has been exceeded. 3: ll stage up perations depend upon the correct setting of this switch. 3 < V > hoose the type of eversing Valve you want to control. elect, if your heat pump reversing valve energizes in cooling and defaults to heat mode. elect, if your reversing valve energizes in heating and defaults to cool mode. : he U4 will hold the output or the output continuously, even during idle periods, until a thermostatic demand to change modes is detected. : Proper setting of this switch is critical. he reversing valve will not function properly if this switch is not set correctly. 4 FF < DL > elect and the U4 will limit HV operations based on the total number of zones calling for conditioned air. 16% or 1/6 of the total number of zones (rounded up) must be calling for the same mode of operation, or the U4 will not activate the HV system. his feature only activates at 8 or more zones. elect FF if you do not want to utilize the one Demand Limiter feature. : one 1 is not affected by this feature. one 1 demands are always honored. DL example: zone system has 20 total zones and the DL feature is active; t least 4 zones must be calling for the same mode of operation (Heat or ool) or the U4 will not activate the HV system. 18zone=3, 16zone=3, 14zone=3, 12zone=2, 10zone=2, 8zone=2. 5 < UX L > D elect the control signal type you need, in order to activate your preferred uxilary elay function. hoose (everse cting) for De-Humidification ontrol, or hoose D (Direct cting) for Humidification ontrol, depending on the control input signal you require. hen connect your controlled device or circuit to the PD dry output contacts and achieve integrated control without the need for 3rd party relays or specialty relays.
