2 Before you begn. Please read these nstructons way :hrough. _ screwdrver /_ Socket _JPlers screwdrver Level all the You need these tools to nstall your Kenmore ko Laundry Center. Get them together n one place to keep track o f them. B_ Check are gong the spot to nstall where :you the Laundry Center. Proper nstallaton s your responsblty. Make sure you have everythng necessary for proper nstallaton. [_'[q_l] You wll need to meet State code/law requrements: So:me Codes keep from or lmt nstallaton of clothes dryers n resdental garages, closets, moble homes and sleepng quarters. (Check wth your local buldng nspector.) mportant: Observe all governng codes and ordnances. Locaton Sze: Must be large enough to fully open dryer door. For :recessed or closet nstallatons see Page 5 for spacng; for product dmensons see the last page of these nstructons. Support: The floor must be able to support the applance loaded weght of 500 pounds. Level Floor: Maxmum floor slcpe under Laundry Center s 1 nch. Protecton from the weather: Proper operaton of dryer cyc:es requres temperatures above 45 F. As some water remans n the washer, do not store or operate the washer below 32 F. For storage below 32 F. see Use and Care Gude for "Wnterzng." []t s the personal responsblty of the customer to ensure that gasolne, pant, thnners and other flammable materals are not used or stored near the Laundry Center. Fumes from these materals could result n fre, exploson or personal njury. [_ Never nst_rll th_ Laundry Center up aganst draperes or curtans and be sure to keep any and all tems from fallng or collectng behnd the Laundry Center. Replace all access or servce panels before operatng Laundry Center. Recommended groundng nstructons Electrcal ground s requred on ths applance, Ths applance must be grounded. n the event of malfuncton or breakdown, groundng wll reduce the rsk of electrc shock by provdng a path of least resstance for electrc current. mproper connecton of the equpment-groundng conductor can result n a rsk of electrc shock. Check wth a qualfed electrcan or servceman f you are n doubt as to whether the applance s properly grounded. Electrcal requrements 1. A.3-wre sngle phase 120/240 volt 60Hz AC only electrcal supply (or 3-wre 120/208 volt f specfed on nameplate) s requred on a separate 30 ampere crcut, fused on both sdes of the lne (tme-delay fuse or crcut breaker s recommended). Do not have a fuse n the neutral or ground crcut. 2, f a power supply cord s used, t: must be a 30 amp rated flexble type wth three open end spade lug connectors wth upturned ends or closed loop termnal connectors. A U.L. recognzed stran relef (U.L. mark on t or Sears Part No ) to ft a one nch hole must be used. When local codes permt, t must be plug_,_ed nto a matng 30 amp rece[.tacle (NEMA) type 10-30R. See l-'gure 1. 3-wre Fgure 1 receptacle (10-30R), The ;applance may be connected drec:ly to the fused dsconnect (or crcu t breaker) box thro ugh flexble arraored or nonmetallc _heathed 10 gaug_ COPPER cable. DO NOT USE ALUMNUM WRE. t s the personal responsblty and oblgaton of the customer to contact a qualfed nstaller to assure that the electrcal nstallaton s adequate and s n conformance wth the Natonal Electrcal Code and local codes and ordnances.a U.L. recognzed stran relef must be provded at each end of the power supply cable (at the applance and at the juncton box). Wre szes (10 gauge COPPER W RE ONLY) and connecton must conform wth the ratng of the applance (30 amperes), DO NOT USE AN EXTENSON CC)RD.. _h- For moble home nstallaton, the applance flame must not be connected to the neutral tez:rnnal, but must be connected to the ground cord (see Page 6, Alternate Electrcal Connecton, for detaled nstructons). Fgure 2 z.-wre receptacle (14-30R) Typcal 30 Amp receptacle use: Use where local c:odes permt flexble type supply cord (pgtal). f a 4--wre sngle phase 1:20/240 volt 60HzA(: receptacle of NEMA type 14-30R (see Fgure 2) s avalable, a matchng power supply cord (pgtal) must be ased. Ths cord contans 4 No. 10 gauge copper conductors wth spade or rng termnals on the Laundry Center end and termnatng n a NEMA type [.,lug on supply end. The fourth Page 2

3 (groundng) conductor must be dentfed by a green cover and the neutral conductor by a whte cowzr. Cord should be Dpe SRD or SRDT, wth a U.L. recognzed stran relef, and be at least 3 feet and no more than 6 feet leng. The 4-wre power supply cord and stran relef are not provded wth the Laundry Center. NOTE: Laundry Center dryers operatng on 208 volt power supply wll have longer dryng tmes than dryers operatng on 240 volt power supply. Exhaust requrements Four nch Metal Exhaust Duct s requred. (Do not use 3-nch exhaust duct.) Metal flexble duct may be used. DO NOT USE PLASTC FLEXBLE DUCT. "d] For Safety: _?_ Do not exhaust dryer nto a chmney, furnace cold ar duct, attc or crawl space, or any other duct used for ventng. Accumulated lnt could become a fre hazard or mosture could cause damage. []The exhaust system should be cleaned perodcally, at least every 18 months. Flexble duct should never be nstaeed concealed n walls, celng or floor. Use Duct Tape to seal all jonts. Exhaustng the dryer outsde s recormnended. For Moble Home" Exhaust Requrements see Page 6, Alternate Exhaust Methods, for detaled nstructons. The Fxhaust Duct should end wth an Exhaust Hood to prevent exhaus:ed ar returnng nto dryer. The outlet of the hood must be at least 12 nches from the ground or anythng else that may be n the path of the exhaust. A 2-1/2 nch outlet-exhaust Hood should be used wth short systems only. Ths outlet creates greater backward pressure than other hood types. Exhaust Hoods wth screen or magnetc latches should not be used. The Maxmum Length of the exhaust system depends upon the type of duct used, number of elbows and type of exhaust hood. The maxmum length for both rgd and flexble duct s shown n chart. Reduce the performance, such as cause longer dryng tmes and ncreases the use of energy. Accumulate lnt. The Laundry Center may be exhausted four (4) ways wth rear flush nstallaton: 1. Straght back. 2. Down (8" length of 4" rgd duct andl elbow down). 3. Left (8" length of 4" rgd duct, 1 elbow down and 1 elbow left). 4. Rght (8" length of 4" rgd duct, 1 elbow down and 1 elbow rght). To exhaust 'up, add an 11" length of standard 4" dameter duct and a 90 elbow. The unt wll be postoned about 4-1/2" away from the wall (flush to wall exhaustng may be done by gong below the dryer then sdeways.) Water supply, and dran requ rements Hot and Cold water faucets wthn 4 feet of back of the Laundry Center and enough pressure-(5-100 PS) are requred... Water Heater should be set to delver 130 F. o above water to the washer for best results. To dran the Laundry Center washer, you need ether a 20-gallon laundry tub or 1-14 nch dameter standppe havng a mnmum carry-away capacty of 16 gallon:_ t:er mnute. The mnmum tub or standppe heght s 33 nches from the bottom of the washer. The maxmum tub or slandppe heght s 96 nches from lhc bottom of the washer. For nstallatons requtng a longer dran hose, have a qualfed techncan nstall a longer hose accordng; to your model number. For dran systems n the floor, nstall a sphon break kt, PN S100. Both components are avalable from Sears Parts Department. (c) (d) (e) PLEASE BEGN...
