That s why we have developed our patent pendng dual fuel heatng system, whch allows the use of ether lqud propane or natural gas for some of our most popular products, wthout requrng any adjustments. 3 IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION IMPORTANT: Read ths owner s manual carefully and completely before tryng to assemble, operate, or servce ths heater. Improper use of ths heater can cause serous njury or death from burns, fre, exploson, electrcal shock, and carbon monoxde posonng. Only a qualfed nstaller, servce agent, or local gas suppler may nstall and servce ths product. WARNING: Do not store or use gasolne or other flammable vapors and lquds n the vcnty of ths or any other applance. CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING: Early sgns of carbon monoxde posonng resemble the flu wth headache, dzzness and/or nausea. If you have these sgns, heater may not be workng properly. Get fresh ar at once! Have heater servced. Some people - pregnant women, persons wth heart or lung dsease, anema, those under the nfluence of alcohol, those at hgh alttude - are more affected by carbon monoxde than others. WARNING: Any change to ths heater or ts controls can be dangerous. WARNING: Do not use any accessores not approved for use wth ths heater. WARNING: Carefully supervse young chldren when they are n the area wth the heater. WARNING: Make sure both grll guards are n place before runnng the heater. (see dagram page 4) WARNING: Keep the applance area clear and free from combustble materals, gasolne, and other flammable vapors and lquds. WARNING: Due to hgh temperatures, the applance should be located out of traffc and away from furnture and draperes. Ths heater needs fresh ar ventlaton to run properly. Ths heater has an Oxygen Depleton Sensng (ODS) safety shutoff system. The ODS shuts down the heater f not enough fresh ar s avalable. See Ar for Combuston and Ventlaton. DO NOT RUN HEATER: Where flammable lquds or vapors are used or stored or under dusty condtons. Always run heater wth control knob locked postons. Never set control knob between locked postons. Poor combuston and hgher levels of carbon monoxde may result. Perodc vsual check of plot and burner flame are necessary for proper operaton. QUALIFIED INSTALLING AGENCY Only a qualfed agency should nstall and replace gas ppng, gas utlzaton equpment or accessores, and repar and equpment servcng. The term qualfed agency means any ndvdual, frm, corporaton, or company that ether n person or through a representatve s engaged n and s responsble for: a) Installng, testng, or replacng gas ppng or b) Connectng, nstallng, testng, reparng, or servcng equpment; that s experenced n such work; that s famlar wth all precautons requred; and that has compled wth all the requrement of the authorty havng jursdcton. PRODUCT FEATURES SAFETY PILOT Ths heater has a plot wth an Oxygen Depleton Sensng (ODS) safety shutoff system. The ODS plot shuts off the heater f there s not enough fresh ar. TIP OVER SWITCH Ths heater s equpped wth a safety tp over swtch n the event the heater s knocked over. PIEZO IGNITION SYSTEM Ths heater s equpped wth an electronc pezo control system. 3

5 PREPARING FOR INSTALLATION Before begnnng assembly or operaton of the product, make sure all parts are present. Compare parts wth package contents lst and dagram below. If any part s mssng or damaged, do not attempt to assemble, nstall or operate the product. Contact customer servce for replacement parts. 6 INSTALLATION WARNING: A qualfed servce person must nstall heater. Follow all local codes. Check Gas Type Be sure your gas supply s rght for your heater. Otherwse, call dealer where you bought the heater for proper type heater. Connect Hose & Regulator to Cylnder 1) You must provde propane gas and propane cylnder. Use a standard 20 lb. propane cylnder. 2) Use ths heater only wth a propane vapor wthdrawal supply system. See chapter 5 of the standard for storage and handlng of lquefed petroleum Gas, ANSI/NFPA58. Your local lbrary or fre department should have ths book. 3) The mnmum permssble gas supply nlet pressure of 11 W.C. s requred for purpose of nput adjustment. 4) The normal hourly of 32,000BTU s requred nput ratng for a heater for automatc operaton at ratngs less than full nput ratng. 5) The pressure regulator and hose assembly suppled wth the applance must be used. 6) The regulator hose must be attached to the tank and the heater nsde the heater cabnet. Ths wll make sure the hose s located out of pathways where people may trp over t or n areas where the hose may be subject to accdental damage. 7) The nstallaton must conform wth local codes, or n the absence of local codes, wth Natonal Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z ) LP-gas supply cylnder to be used must be: (a) Constructed and marked n accordance wth the Specfcatons for LP-gas cylnders of the U.S. Department of Transportaton (DOT); or the Standard for Cylnders, Spheres and Tubes for Transportaton of Dangerous Goods and Commsson, CAN/CSA-B339, as applcable; (b) Provded wth a lsted overfllng preventon devce; and (c) Provded wth a cylnder connecton devce compatble wth the connecton for the applance. 9) A dented, rusted or damaged propane cylnder may be hazardous and should be checked by your cylnder suppler. Never use a propane cylnder wth a damaged valve connecton. 5

7 10) The propane cylnder must be constructed and marked n accordance wth the specfcatons for LP gas cylnders of the U.S. Department of Transportaton (DOT). 11) Never connect an unregulated propane cylnder to the heater. 12) Screw regulator onto gas hose. Dot not cross-thread. 13) Tghten securely. 14) Attach regulator to cylnder. 15) Complete attachment. 16) Install the cylnder and latch closed. 17) Close the rear cover. Fgure 2 Propane Cylnder 6

8 CHECKING GAS CONNECTIONS WARNING: Test all gas ppng and connectons for leaks after nstallng or servcng. Correct all leaks at once. WARNING: Never use an open flame to check for a leak. Apply a mxture of lqud soap and water to all jonts. If bubbles form, there s a leak. Correct all leaks at once. Pressure Testng Heater Gas Connectons 1) Open gas supply tank valve. 2) Make sure control knob of heater s n the OFF poston. 3) Check all jonts from equpment shutoff valve to control valve. Apply mxture of lqud soap and water to gas jonts. If bubbles form, there may be a leak. 4) Correct all leaks at once. AIR FOR COMBUSTION AND VENTILATION Ths heater s equpped wth multple ventlaton holes n and around the heater. The followng MUST be adhered to when usng ths heater: 1) Adequate clearance MUST always be provded for the ar openng around the heater. 2) Adequate ar MUST be provded nto the combuston chamber. 3) Ths heater MUST always be kept clear of ANY combustble materal. The followng are the mnmum clearances from combustbles: 1) 4 nches from the floor 2) 5 feet from ANY wall or ralng 3) 8 feet from the ANY celng or overhead cover USER MUST NEVER OPERATE THE HEATER WITH ANY VENT COVERED TO ALLOW ADEQUATE FRESH AIR INTO THE HEATER AND COMBUSTION CHAMBER 7

9 OPERATION FOR YOUR SAFETY READ BEFORE LIGHTING WARNING: If you do not follow these nstructons exactly, a fre or exploson may result causng property damage, personal njury or loss of lfe. Before Turnng Gas Supply ON: 1) Your heater was desgned and approved for outdoor use only. Do NOT use t nsde a buldng, garage, or any other enclosed area. 2) Make sure surroundng areas are free of combustble materals, gasolne, and other flammable vapors or lquds. 3) Ensure that there s no obstructon to ar ventlaton. 4) Be sure all gas connectons are tght and there are no leaks by usng soap on the hose. No bubbles should be seen. If you see bubbles then the connecton s not secure. 5) Inspect the gas pressure regulator and hose pror to each use. (f there s evdence of excessve abrason or wear, or f the hose s damaged DO NOT USE THE HEATER. The user MUST replace the hose wth the manufacture specfed replacement hose and regulator) 6) Regulator hose should be connected at the top of the propane cylnder and attached drectly to the heater out of the way area where accdental damage could occur. 7) ONLY the pressure regulator and hose assembly suppled wth the applance must be used 8) Be sure the cylnder cover s clear of debrs. 9) Be sure any component remove durng assembly or servcng s replaced & fastened pror to startng. Before lghtng 1) Heater should be thoroughly nspected before each use and by a qualfed servce person at least annually. 2) If relghtng a hot heater, always wat at least 5 mnutes 3) Inspect the hose assembly for evdence of excessve abrason, cuts, or wear. Suspected areas should be leak tested. If the hose leaks, t must be replaced pror to operaton. Only use the replacement hose assembly specfed by manufacturer. Fgure 3 Control Knobs 8

10 Lghtng 1) STOP! Read the safety nformaton on the nsde of the heater. User MUST follow these lghtng procedures or the heater wll NOT operate properly. 2) Make sure equpment shutoff valve s fully open. 3) Turn control knob clockwse to the OFF poston. 4) Wat fve (5) mnutes to clear out any gas. Then smell for gas, ncludng near the floor. If you smell gas, STOP! Do not try to lght any applance. Do not touch electrcal swtch or use any phone n the buldng. Immedately contact gas suppler from a neghbor s phone. Follow gas suppler s nstructons. If you can t reach the gas suppler, call the fre dept. If you don t smell gas, go to the next step. 5) Turn control knob counterclockwse to the START poston. Press n control knob for fve (5) seconds and smultaneously press the gnter button. Ths wll lght the plot. The user must verfy the plot s lt pror to turnng the knob to the frst flame poston. In the event the plot s not lt you must wat 5 mnutes to relght. 6) Turn control knob to sngle flame symbol. Ths wll lght the bottom 3 ceramc plaques. 7) Turn the knob agan to the double burner symbol and ths wll lght the upper 3 ceramc plaques. (t s best to allow the bottom 3 plaques to warm up frst pror to turnng the top plaques on.) Shut down 1) Turn control knob clockwse to START (normally, burner wll make a slght poppng sound when extngushed.) 2) To extngush plot, depress control knob and contnue to turn t clockwse to OFF. 3) Turn cylnder valve clockwse to OFF and dsconnect regulator when heater s not n use. After operaton check: 1) Gas control s n OFF poston. 2) Gas Tank valve s OFF. 3) Dsconnect gas hose by unscrewng the plastc end attached to the cylnder. 4) Heater s uprght n a secure locaton. 5) Storage of an applance ndoors s permssble only f the cylnder s dsconnected and removed from the applance. 6) A cylnder must be stored outdoors n a well-ventlated area out of the reach of chldren 7) A dsconnected cylnder must have dust caps tghtly nstalled and must not be stored n a buldng, garage or any other enclosed area. 9

11 CARE AND MAINTENANCE WARNING: Turn off heater and let cool before servcng. Any grlls removed for servcng MUST be replaced pror to use. CAUTION: You must keep control areas, burner, and crculatng ar passageways of heater clean. Inspect these areas of heater before each use. Have heater nspected yearly by a qualfed servce techncan. Heater may need more frequent cleanng due to drt and other debrs normally found outdoors. CAUTION: The applance s equpped wth a pezo electrc operated gnton devce. The user MUST follow the proper lghtng nstructons or damage to the heater or fre may occur. CLEANING ODS/PILOT AND BURNER Use a vacuum cleaner, pressurzed ar, or a small, soft brstled brush to clean. CLEANING BURNER PILOT AIR INLET HOLE We recommend that you clean the unt every 2,500 hours of operaton or every three months. We also recommend that you keep the burner tube and plot assembly clean and free of dust and drt. To clean these parts, we recommend usng compressed ar no greater than 30 PSl. Your local computer store, hardware store, or home center may carry compressed ar n a can. You can use a vacuum cleaner n the blow poston. If usng compressed ar n a can, please follow the drectons on the can. If you don t follow drectons on the can, you could damage the plot assembly. 1) Shut off the unt, ncludng the plot. Allow the unt to cool for at least thrty mnutes. 2) Inspect burner and plot for dust and drt. 3) Blow ar through the ports/slots and holes n the burner and clean the plot assembly. A yellow tp on the plot flame ndcates dust and drt n the plot assembly. There s a small plot ar nlet hole about two nches from where the plot flame comes out of the plot assembly (see fgure 2). Wth the unt off, lghtly blow ar through the ar nlet hole. You may blow through a drnkng straw f compressed ar s not avalable. 4) Wth the unt on, vsually check the burner flames to very an even orange pattern on ALL 6 burners. Compare wth fgure 2 below. 12 CLEANING THE CABINET Ar Passageways Use a vacuum cleaner or pressurzed ar to clean. Exteror Use a soft cloth dampened wth a mld soap and water mxture. Wpe the cabnet to remove dust. If you need replacement parts you must go to an authorzed dealer for professonal servce! Every part of the heater shall be secure aganst dsplacement and shall be constructed to mantan a fxed relatonshp between essental parts under normal and reasonable condtons of handlng and usage. Parts not permanently secured shall be desgned so they cannot be ncorrectly assembled and cannot be mproperly located or msalgned n removng or replacng durng cleanng or other servcng. TROUBLESHOOTING WARNING: If you smell gas: Open the wndow and door mmedately. Shut off gas supply. Do not try to lght any applance. Do not touch any electrcal swtch; do not use any phone n your buldng. Immedately call your gas suppler from a neghbor s phone. Follow the gas suppler s nstructons. If you cannot reach your gas suppler, call the fre department. IMPORTANT: Operatng heater where mpurtes n ar exst may create odors. Cleanng supples, pant, pant remover, cgarette smoke, cements and glues, new carpet or textles, etc., create fumes. These fumes may mx wth combuston ar and create odors. WARNING: Only a qualfed servce techncan should servce and repar heater. CAUTION: Never use a wre, needle, or smlar object to clean ODS plot. Ths can damage ODS plot unt. Note: All troubleshootng tems are lsted n order of operaton. 11
