22 Standardized Manufacturing Setout STANDARDIZED MANUFACTURING SETOUT (SMS) The SMS system is designed to provide a standardised setout for drawer production by limiting the number of variables which need to be considered by the manufacturer. The concept is to set a fixed measurement between the bottom of the drawer front and the centre line of the cabinet member of the drawer slide. The measurement from the bottom of the drawer front to the centre lines of front fixing bracket fixing points needs to be standardised to enable the bottom of drawer front to centre line cabinet member to be set. This distance varies depending on the height of the drawer slide. Refer to the following diagram Calculating the Drawer Position The manufacturer needs to determine the size of the drawer fronts making allowance for overlays, gaps between drawer s fronts and the bench top. Select the appropriate height of the Harn Impaz drawer slide based upon the following minimum height. The top drawer will need to have the overlay added to these minimum dimensions. The nominated sizes are based upon 16mm carcuss materials being used.
