Neutralizer and lines must be wet efore operating the boiler or furnace, fill the N tank and traps with tap water. Operating N tanks as exhaust vents can cause injury or death from carbon monoxide. as traps must be installed between the boiler, vent drains, hot water heaters and furnace condensate outlet and the inlet of all N tanks. N tanks must be installed below sysem P-traps, boiler, furnace, and breeching condensate drains. I NOT install a condensate pump with integral check valve as in igure, page 6. ombined piping options lue pipe condensate drains oiler/furnace condensate drain and flue condensate drain can be commonly piped to a neutralizer tank. lso, the flue pipe must be terminated so rain water cannot enter the flue vent. Recharge tanks regularly Tanks should be recharged when ph level moves below 5.0. The ph should be checked regularly (at least twice during the first year of operation) to determine the required recharging schedule. oiler/furnace applications for space heating only (no HW) may require recharging only once per year. What is ph? The ph measurement of a fluid is an indicator of the acidity or alkalinity. Neutral fluids have ph of 7.0. cid fluids have ph below 7. nd alkaline fluids have ph above 7 (up to ). The ph can be easily measured using digital pocket ph probe. ondensate ph from condensing boilers and furnaces is typically around The condensate ph needs to be increased (made more neutral) to prevent possible damage to cast iron soil pipe, S pipe, septic tanks, plants, wastewater treatment plants and other materials handling waste water. N-series condensate ph treatment tanks increase ph (reduce acidity). N-series commercial flue-side condensate neutralizing tanks are designed to raise the ph level of the condensate discharged by high-efficiency boilers, hot water heaters and warm air furnaces. ach change of. in ph is a 0-times reduction (or increase) in concentration. Use multiple tanks if needed to handle the load. onsider using the next larger size neutralizing tank for boiler systems with domestic hot water heating. ocate the neutralizing tank below the condensate connection and slightly above the floor drain or inlet to a condensate pump reservoir (if used). ollow the guidelines in this manual, the boiler/furnace manual and all applicable local codes when installing, using and maintaining N-series ondensate ph treatment tanks. Installation sequence. efore installing boiler or furnace, determine if a mounting pad will be needed to elevate the boiler or furnace so that the condensate connection will be above bottom of the N tank OUTT. See piping diagrams on pages 6, 7, and 8. Provide a mounting pad for the N tank if needed to obtain the proper elevation relative to a condensate pump reservoir (when used see igure on page 6).. Place the N tank in position. ill the tank to the maximum fill line with neutralizing agent obtained from JJM oiler Works only.. onnect PV piping from appliance or breeching drains to P-traps and then from P-trap outlets to N tank inlets.. onnect the N tank outlet to house drain or condensate pump. 5.
