Energy Saving at Ashikaga Red Cross Hospital Project in Japan Shiro TSUKAMI (NIKKEN SEKKEI) This time, I would like to present Energy saving at Ashikaga Red Cross Hospital project in Japan. Fig.1 Appearance of the Old and the New Hospital First of all, we'll explain about the outline of the Ashikaga Red Cross Hospital. Fig.3 Location Surrounding Natural Beauty Ashikaga Hospital has opened since July 2011(twenty eleventh), as called Green Hospital for next generation.the new building is situated in such a beautiful area where Watarase-River runs across. In the hospital, there are 555 (five hundred fifty-five) beds and total area is 50,000 (fifty thousand) square meter. Fig.2 Location of the Ashikaga Red Cross Hospital Ashikaga-City, where Ashikaga Hospital is located, is southern part of Tochigi-Prefecture, 80km north from central Tokyo metropolitan area.there are so many nice place, Ashikaga Flower Park, Ashikaga old school, Good WINERY.By all means, please come to tour the Ashikaga Hospital. Fig.4 Site Planning Designing plan for this project is composed of 6 different buildings; 1.Outpatient wing, 2.Central medical care wing, 3.Hospital ward wing, 4.Energy supply, 5.Auditorium 6.Medical check-up wing
Each building has designed for easy renovation and expansion. Fig.5 Ward Plan The hospital ward wing has 2 care units at each floor and 1care unit has 35(thirty-five) beds, every room has designed as private use. Fig.7 Key-Word for Next Generation Green Hospital As keywords to realize the "next-generation Green Hospital", five of the following is considered. 1. Green for Natural Energy, Energy-saving, Water-saving. 2. Safety for Strongness against disaster. 3. Smart for Plesantness and Amenity. 4. Sustainability for Long-Life Hospital. 5. Hospitality for Healing Environment. Along this five keywords, and I will continue to the presentation. Fig.6 Design Concept The new hospital aims Next Generation Green Hospital offering patients with bright, pleasant care with advanced CO2 reduction technology by utilizing natural energy of wind, sun light and water. Fig.8 Key-word Green First of keyword is Green.
Fig.9 Energy-saving and CO2 reduction Technology The new hospital aims Next Generation Green Hospital with so many advanced energy saving and CO2 reduction technologies by utilizing natural energy of wind, sun light and water. Fig.11 Triage-Color Wind Power Generation 4 unit of Wind-power generators are painted with blue, red, yellow and green accordingly. Those types of colors represent the same color variation with triage tag and triage can be performed quickly as those generators become a visible landmark in time of disaster." Fig.10 Wind Energy Design First of all, I would like to present Wind-power generation for energy-saving purpose and CO2 reducing technology. At new hospital, it equips 4 generators which are capable of creating 40kW(forty) of total electricity. The amount of electricity generated is as same as that of an emergency area s lightings. The wind-power generator is resemble to Blue Whale, therefore names as KAZENAGASUKUJIRA, that means a whale has flown by wind in Japanese. Fig.12 Solar Energy Design The new hospital will be planning to install Solar-power generator with 20kW(twenty). Generating capacity is nearly the same amount of Hospital Mall and outpatient clinic area s lightings.
Fig.13 Solar Generating Panels surrounded by planting Solar generating panels are installed at outside entrance hall surrounded by planting. The area easily gets attention from patients. Fig.15 Energy Amount of the Solar Power Generation Amount of power generated by the sunlight was about 24,000kW (twenty four thousand kilowatts) per year.it has become a saving of electricity about 2,637 (two thousand six hundred thirty-seven euro)per year.by the time to recover the initial cost, it is calculated that take even 55(fifty-five) years.but it had been expected from the original planning, Natural energy, after all, it takes a lot of money. Fig14. Energy Amount of the Wind Power Generation Amount of power generated by the wind was about 8,600kW (eight thousand six hundred kilowatts) per year.if I try to convert the amount of power generation in the money, it has become a saving of electricity about 952 (nine hundred fifty-two) per year.but by the time to recover the initial cost, it is calculated that take even 307(three hundre) years. Honestly, it comes out tears. Fig.16 Invisible Effect of the Natural Energy I introduce the staff survey, "to see the wind and solar power generation in the hospital, did you have changed your awareness of Energy-saving?" As a result of the question, nearly 60% of the staff answered "Changed" or "slightly changed.the effect of invisible Wind and Solar power generation, and it appears in
such an Energy-saving mind, there is a worth that was installed over the money. Fig.17 Energy System Flow I would like to present heat utilization in well water. Fig.19 Hot Water Strage Tank Moreover, hot water used in the hospital is created by heat from well water. Heat in well water is pumped up by heat pump system, and then it makes 100t(one hundred ton) of hot water and stored in the tank. Fig.18 Heat Strage Tank Heat, which is captured from well water, will be stored in heat storage tank, sized 5m(five meter) and capacity of 2,000t(two thousand ton). This water tank can be stored cold water in summer, warm water in winter. Fig.20 High-Efficiency Heat-Pump System High efficiency air-cooled HP system is classified as COP 5.5, the best in its class.
Fig.21 Visualaization of Energy I would like to introduce visualization of energy. At Ashikaga Hospital, new generation green-hospital concept and electricity usage in the whole building and also CO2 reduction by using energy from mother-nature will all be displayed on monitor, so visitors can appreciate eco-friendly hospital. This is displayed at entrance hall. Fig.23 Activities of Eco Comittee In order to continue to be a Green Hospital, it is important not only to install eco system but also to keep up with watching operation carefully. Therefore to make the hospital organization called Eco-committee, hospital director himself performs the eco patrol regularly, they try to eliminate wasteful use of air conditioning and lighting. Well, this kind of committee, I think it works well from the top down. Fig.22 Auto-Report BEMS System In order to properly manage the energy consumption, it equips a building energy management system, called BEMS. The feature of this system is to create Energy-Reports automatically without a detailed analysis. Energy report, in Excel format, by cell opereation, easily, can be translated into energy, CO2, Oil, Cost. Fig.24 Eco Operational Briefing Since it is important for all staff to have the eco-consciousness, we were held eco-operational briefings for staff. By these efforts it has penetrated in the hospital, we think that it was able to achieve a large energy-saving and CO2 reduction. Fig.25 Energy Usage for Japanese Buildings
Average energy consumption for Japanese hospital has a vast amount of 4,050MJ/m2year, and is twice as much that of office buildings. Fig.26 Comparison of Energy Usage Transition in energy consumption at Ashikaga Hospital was only 2,240MJ/m2year, it was able to achieve up to 45% of energy-saving compared to those amount of the other before type. Fig.28 Key-word Safety Next, I would like to talk about a second keyword safety. Fig.27 Comparison of Water Usage When it comes to water usage, it is equivalent 400L per bed in a day, thanks to water-saving appliance. This represents a significant water saving 60% compared with Japanese standard. Fig.29 BCP against Disaster In this new hospital, preference has been given on a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) to energy saving efforts so that the hospital may become strong against disaster. The hospital has been supported by 157 pieces of seismic isolation devices and 28 dampers.
Fig.31 Training against Disaster Assuming a disaster such as the Great East Japan Earthquake, they implement a disaster training. Fig.30 Hospital Strong against Disaster As the central hospital in the district, Ashikaga hospital has an auditorium which is capable of having around 300 people evacuated from disaster, medical gas devices are installed in the walls. Because it is most needed electricity and water in the disaster, the energy of the hospital is almost an electric system and is accepted from the two distribution line, we consider the risk of a power failure. If the power company has been a power failure, they have to be able to operate the emergency generator of 100% backup. Since Generator can be operated about five days, it will be able to do medical care with confidence. For water, since there is a filtration device of well water, it can also be used without worrying about drinking water and toilet cleaning water. Fig.32 Key-word Smart The third keyword is smart. Fig.33 Sickroom Air-Conditioning AC (air conditioning) system in each room has an individual unit of AC system with Heat-capture system from well water. Remote control for AC system has bigger and easy-to-read buttons for aged and disabled patients.
Fig.36 Radiant Cooling & Heating For friendly AC environment for everyone, we adopt radiant cooling & heating system. Since the AC system does not create direct flow current, it allows setting higher temperature than ordinate AC system. It will eventually leads to the energy saving. Fig.34 AC Supply for Sickroom When you enter a room from hallway, you will see a water-saving sink with automated faucet. AC Supply is located above window. Fig.37 Ceiling Radiant Cooling & Heating (Pallative Care Sick-room) In the palliative care sick-room, as you can see, upper bed area has ceiling radiant cooling & heating, creating very comfortable environment at sleeping position. Fig.35 AC Return for Sickroom AC Return is located on hallway ceiling. Opening spot of lower TV is created for trashing space for easy access from both sink and bed area. Fig.38 Ceiling Radiant Cooling & Heating (Hemodialysis Room) In the hemodialysis room, It also can provide comfortable environment for patient who dialyze for a long period of time.
Fig.39 Ceiling Radiant Cooling & Heating (Chemo-therapy Room) In the chemo-therapy room, upper bed area also has ceiling radiant cooling & heating, creating very comfortable environment at sleeping position. Fig.41 Floor Radiant Cooling & Heating System (Hospital Mall) Instead of heating and cooling in whole area, it only pinpoints near floor area. It provides not only comfortable temperature, but also can save energy. Fig.40 Floor Radiant Cooling & Heating (Hospital Mall) Since hospital mall area has high ceiling, it adopts floor radiant cooling & heating system. Fig.42 Floor Radiant Cooling & Heating (Auditorium) This is an Auditorium, open for anyone. Since it has high ceiling, it adopts floor radiant cooling & heating system. Also the area can be utilized for any purpose or events, since the whole floor has cooling and heating system.
Fig.43 Kitchen Ventilation Ceiling System I will introduce ventilated ceiling system in kitchen. What is unique about this structure is that there are exhaust openings located at ceiling for discharging cooking grease, fume and toxic substance. Fig.45 Kitchen Ventilation Ceiling System (Washing Area) There is also exhaust opening at above a dishwashing machine, creating comfortable temperature environment at very steamy washing area. Fig.44 Kitchen Ventilation Ceiling System (Main Kitchen) Therefore it can create very comfortable kitchen environment. Fig.46 Rooftop-gardening Here I am presenting green planting on roof area. Once you step out from 4 th floor medical staff kitchen, you will see a spacious area with beautiful lawn. Medical staff can relax and enjoy the sunny weather at lunch or coffee break!
Fig.47 Operating Room with a Bright Window Because of the stress reduction of staff, we have created the operating room with a window. Wall panel system can be easily layout change, the operating room has also ensure future flexibility. Fig.49 Key-word Sustainability Fourth keyword is sustainability for Long-Life Hospital. Fig.48 Easy-to-use Toilet and Washroom Toilet and Washroom, such as patients and staff use every day, we were planning as important space. Open toilet space facing the window of the bright natural light, we thought and designed the height and shape of the handrail and paper holder. Pull down paper holder, if Paper is wet, it becomes unsanitary condition, I made it to devise so that paper is not wet. Fig.50 Easy Maintenance Ceiling, Floor and Wall) Generally, the new hospital everywhere is so beautiful, but after a while the walls and floors become wound, and exterior is also dirty. Here, we will introduce some of the ideas to use the Hospital in good condition for a long time. As you know, in the hospital, it will hit the bed and catering vehicles on the wall. Therefore, we used the melamine resin in the wall material of the corridor. This wall material is resistant to impact and scratches, you can keep a long time the wall clean. Ceiling is a system ceiling for easy to repair and maintenance, and flooring is non-wax type.
This is a curved mirror to prevent a clash at the corner. Fig.51 Curved Mirror for Prevent Clash Curved mirror is attached to everywhere in the hallway. Fig.53 Visualization of Piping Ashikaga Hospital encourages unique visualization. For example, all piping has been colored by type, so it is easily to recognize each pipe. Fig.52 Keep Exterior Clean We designed carefully the exterior of the hospital room. The exterior of the hospital has a deep form of carving than normal hospital. By so doing, it is possible to get a window in the toilet, and prevented the insolation from the window. Not only that, this area, because it is right next to the river and so many birds are flying, we decided the angle of the eaves so as to avoid the shit of birds. Fig.54 Visualization of Access Door at Ceiling Moreover access door at ceiling has been visualized for easy access at corresponding mechanical unit. By doing so, it is easy to access what you are looking for. It is not only energy to visualize, but also to visualize all kinds of things. We are care about sending a message that is very important from sustainable energy point, retaining the building forever
Fig.57 Red Cross Mark Design As the name stands itself, inside the building it has many CROSSING designing. Fig.55 Key-word Hospitality Fifth keyword is hospitality. Fig.58 Red Cross Mark Design When you come to Ashikaga hospital, by all means, please try to find a cross mark that are hidden in various places. Fig.56 Healing Art In the hospital, they have taken a lot of the healing art. Many of art that has a rich natural environment, such as light, water, wind and green in theme, provides a comfortable care environment for patients. Fig.59 Eco Lighting Design (Hospital Mall) Let me talk about energy-saving lighting equipment. Lighting system at Hospital Mall uses long-life and energy-saving LED to take advantage of its high ceiling.
Fig.60 Eco Lighting Design (East-side View) This is what it looks like when the whole building is illuminated at night time. Medical care at lower floor is equipped with white lighting for workability, whereas ward area uses color of a lighting ball with touch of warmth. Whole building uses high efficiency fluorescent light. Fig.62 Courtyard facing the Hospital Mall My presentation is also approaching the end. Fig.61 Eco Lighting Design (Hospital Signboard Lighting) Also Red Cross sign has designed to illuminate in red. (This is the most important part! As hospital signs light up at night, they symbolize as iconic image of the town. Fig.63 High Reputation of the New Hospital Our efforts are evaluated in Japan, we have received a lot of awards in the past. For example, Carbon Neutral Award, Health Architecture Award, Energy Conservation Grand Prize. Fig.64 Virtuous Cycle of the Green Hospital
I introduce the staff survey, "Regarding hospital environment, do you think that there is a good influence on your work?" As a result of the question, nearly 60% of the staff answered "Good" or "slightly Good. Fig.64 Harmony with Hospital and Natural Energy This is my favorite picture. People live in harmony with hospital and natural energy. On behalf of NIKKEN SEKKEI, I would like to appreciate your kind attention.
