1 Test Results from the AHRI Low GWP AREP II (Alternative Refrigerant Evaluation Program) Transport Refrigeration Soft Optimization Test of a R404A Alternative Refrigerant R452A (DR34) in a Trailer Refrigeration Unit.

3 Purpose & Some Evaluation Details Evaluate the soft optimized test results of next generation alternative refrigerant R452A in a R404A trailer refrigeration unit. Soft Optimization Changes - Adjustment of expansion device (1/4 turn open) - Refrigerant charge unchanged (4 kgs) Results are compared to the same trailer refrigeration unit running on R404A tested at same ambient temperature / box temperature / compressor speed conditions. 3

15 Conclusions R452A (DR34) is comparable to R404A in capacity and efficiency at fresh conditions at both ambients with only small drops in capacity (-5.5% max) and efficiency (-3.3% max) were seen at the frozen and deep frozen conditions Compressor discharge temperatures and pressures were as predicted and acceptable for use in these types of products. Soft optimization consisted of; - Small expansion device adjustment to accommodate a minor change in mass flow rate (1/4 turn open). 15
