BENEFITS OF STEAM The benefits of steam bathing have been recognized for thousands of years from ancient traditions to the ultra-modern hydro therapeutic techniques of European and American health spas. Today steam baths are considered an integral method for purifying and detoxifying the skin and body, increasing circulation, stimulating the immune system and encouraging complete physical and mental well-being. Many are aware of the wide range of benefits of steam: Massage Therapists use steam baths in preparation for massage as a means of increasing the suppleness of the muscles and creating a deep sense of relaxation in the body and mind. Aroma therapy treatments are easily given by placing essential oils directly onto the steam head. The smell evokes powerful effects throughout the body and has a wide range of therapeutic benefits. Spa Therapists prefer the use of steam to enhance their facial and body treatments. During a treatment the heat stimulates circulation while preparing the surface of the skin for better absorption of products. The steam cleans the skin through perspiration and creates an energy throughout the body that helps burn up fat. Fitness enthusiasts know that steam baths have a stimulating effect on the cardiovascular system. The pulse rate increases from 75 beats per minute to between beats per minute during a minute treatment. This increases blood circulation and enables the blood stream to carry greater amounts of nutrients to the skin, enhancing the nutritive status.

3 GUIDELINES FOR STEAM ROOMS 1. Walls, ceiling and floor must be completely covered with waterproof finish; i.e.: tile, marble, stone or slate. 2. Any smooth surface flooring that is used such as tile or marble, should include an anti-skid finish to avoid slipping and injury. 3. Any exposed plaster, plasterboard or sheet rock surface must be well sealed with at least 3 coats of commercial quality waterproof sealer (urethane or epoxy). 4. Do not use green board, use cement board. 5. Ceiling should be pitched away from the door 1-1/2 per foot or constructed in a gable configuration to prevent condensation from dripping. 6. Built-in seat should be slightly pitched to allow for condensate run-off. 7. Steam room must be completely enclosed with walls, door, floor and ceiling, but should not be vapor proof. A slight opening of approximately 1/4 is desired to create movement of the steam. 8. A standard glass shower door is sufficient, a special door is not necessary. 9. Make sure there is a floor drain for condensate run-off and cleaning. 10. Do not install a fan inside steam room. Hot steam rises and will escape through the flapper. 11. Windows that are part of the steam room enclosure should be double paned. 12. Deionizer or inline water filter hooked up on incoming water line is helpful in hard/corrosive water areas. 13. Install steam generator to hot side of water unless water softener or inline water filter is hooked up. Water softeners are usually hooked up to hot side. Most inline water filters are rated for cold water only. 14. Check local utility line voltage - choose appropriate steam generator voltage; i.e.: 208 Volt or 240 Volt. 15. Make sure steam generator is installed in upright and level position and is in a location that is ACCESSIBLE for Water Level Probe maintenance. 16. Steam Generator should never be located where it is exposed to outside weather conditions, freezing temperatures, near flammable materials or inside the steam room.

7 STEAM GENERATORS CONTINUED CLASSIC GENERATOR The Classic Steam-Whirl generator is the same size as the Standard & Elite models. It can accommodate steam rooms from 100 to 650 cubic feet with the option of wiring two units in tandem to accommodate up to 1300 cubic feet. All models ship blowdown ready. What makes the Classic different from the Standard is the 60 Minute Mechanical Timer (below). CLASSIC ACCESSORY KIT Includes 60 Minute Mechanical Timer with white plate and one Steam Head and Escutcheon in choice of finish. STEAM ACCESSORIES AUTOMATIC BLOWDOWN Blowdowns offer the convenience of having the water automatically removed from the heating tank after each use. Allowing clean fresh water to enter the tank for each steam bath, increasing the life of the generator and reducing the required maintenance. DRAIN PAN Suggested as a precautionary measure in the unlikely event of a plumbing leak. Designed to fit all Steam-Whirl models. INLINE WATER FILTER Install on the incoming cold water line for all steam generators to reduce the buildup of calcium & minerals in the heating tank. STEAM ACCESSORIES CONTINUED STEAM DIVERTER Ideal for small steam rooms, the steam diverter diffuses the steam coming out of the steam head and adds a barrier to keep anyone from coming into direct contact with the steam head.
