SETTING EXPECTATIONS The fllwing list is meant t clarify expectatins fllwing cmmissining f the MINOTAIR in accrdance with the instructins set frth in this guide. Keep in mind that the MINOTAIR shuld be installed and maintained in accrdance with this manual t ensure ptimal perfrmance fr many years. Humidity setpint. It can take up t a week frm the device s initial start-up t reach the humidity setpint. This is nrmal and depends n varius factrs such as climate, ccupant habits, huse size, furniture and insulatin. Ideal humidity levels. During winter, a 35% humidity level is ideal. It is hwever pssible t adjust this setting depending n persnal preference r until cndensatin appears n the windws. If cndensatin starts frming, lwer yur humidity setpint. Please nte that if temperature is lwered during the night, cndensatin is likely t appear n the windws in the mrning. Mrning cndensatin is nrmal, as lng as it ges away nce temperature is brught back up t the daytime setpint. In summer, a 45-50% humidity level is perfectly cmfrtable, but culd be hard t maintain during high humidity weather. Ventilatin airflw. T much ventilatin will bring in an excessive amunt f dry air in the winter and humid air in the summer. This culd make it difficult t maintain humidity levels at the desired set pint. On the ther hand, insufficient ventilatin will fail t renew the air in the huse adequately and culd lead t excess humidity. Make sure t fllw the guidelines f this manual t set the ideal ventilatin airflw prperly fr yur situatin. Oil r metal dur. Upn the device s initial start-up, a light il r metal smell may be nticeable thrughut the huse. If this happens, it will dissipate n its wn within 48 hurs f initial start-up. Secndary heating and cling systems. While the MINOTAIR is able t heat and cl a huse fr parts f the year, it is unlikely t d s cmpletely withut the help f an auxiliary system, especially during the cld winter mnths. Furthermre, several factrs can influence yur heating and cling needs. These factrs include climate, huse size, insulatin, windw quality and area, windws rientatin in relatin t the sun, and, f curse, ccupant habits. Device maintenance. The MINOTAIR is a sphisticated and safe air prcessing system. Its prper functining can nly be ensured if the device is adequately maintained. Filters must be changed regularly every 3 mnths and replacement filters must be designed specifically fr the MINOTAIR. Furthermre, the cndensate drainpipe and the utside air intake/utlet hds must be inspected at least every mnth. Clean them as necessary. Yu are nw ready t enjy yur MINOTAIR! 10 EXTERNAL OVERVIEW The MINOTAIR s husing is 100 % aluminium, which makes it lighter and easier t handle. Furthermre, aluminum is guaranteed lng term against rust which, therwise, wuld end up weakening the husing structure since it is always in cntact with humidity and cndensates. The air vents are lcated n tp f the device fr easy installatin. This eliminates the need t add elbws t redirect airflws upward t reach the main ducts, which are ften installed in the ceiling jists. The fur installatin hks designed t suspend the device are each secured with a blt, which allws the hks t be psitined at an angle. This in turn enables mre flexibility when aligning the hks with their anchr pints. The installatin hks are als designed s as t attenuate the prpagatin f vibratins frm the device t the structure f the huse. The transprt feet are designed t prtect the cndensate drain frm cllapsing when the device rests n the flr. Furthermre, these feet create a space under the device, which makes lifting it much easier fr installers. Access t cmpnents requiring maintenance filters fr example is pssible frm the frnt f the device by pening the main access panel. 11 OPERATING MODES The MINOTAIR is the nly system f its kind t cmbine a mtrized damper with tw cnstant airflw fans. The mtrized damper can switch between tw psitins, which allw the MINOTAIR t functin as either an air exchanger r a heat pump. As a result, this allws fr the develpment f varius perating mdes t ptimize energy efficiency and ccupant cmfrt. 1. AIR EXCHANGER MODE This mde cntrls tw flws, ne being fresh air and the ther exhaust air. T perate in this mde, the mtrized damper makes a full clckwise rtatin until it is in cntact with the angled walls. In this mde, the micrcntrller sets the same airflw fr each fan. Air Exchanger Mde features include: Filters air while remving pllutants frm the huse, and xygenates inside air with fresh air frm utside. Dehumidifies and cls air in the summer. Dehumidifies and recvers heat in the winter. Can als humidify when cnnected t a humidifier. Offsets the majrity f extra csts related t ventilatin, thus prviding a high energy balance depending n climate and ccupant behaviur. Figure 4 Air Exchanger Mde. MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc (BR07K08K12K )

2. HEAT PUMP MODE This mde cntrls tw flws, ne being ambient air recirculatin and the ther, utside air intake. T perate in this mde, the mtrized damper makes a full cunter clckwise rtatin until it is in cntact with the angled walls. In this mde, the airflws set by the micrcntrller are nt necessarily identical fr the tw fans, because the gal is t ptimize energy gains. Thus, the left fan will usually have a lwer airflw than the right fan, which shuld be clse t the maximum pssible airflw. Heat Pump Mde features include: Dehumidifies and cls air in the summer, and heats air in the winter. The heat pump heats by acting n sensible heat and cls by acting mre n the latent heat that causes discmfrt in humid summer days. Filters air while prviding unifrm humidity and temperature cnditins. Can als humidify when cnnected t a humidifier. Partially ffsets heating and cling csts fr a superir energy balance. Figure 5 Heat Pump Mde. 12 MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc. - (BR12K-USER GUIDE )

3. RECIRCULATION MODE This mde cntrls a single flw, which is ambient air recirculatin. T perate in this mde, the mtrized damper makes a full cunter clckwise rtatin until it is in cntact with the angled walls. In this mde, the left fan perates at the airflw set by the micrcntrller while the right fan is practically stpped. In fact, a minimum airflw is required t measure utside air temperature. Recirculatin Mde features include: Filters ambient air while prviding unifrm humidity and temperature cnditins. Ultra-lw energy cnsumptin. Figure 6 Recirculatin Mde. MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc (BR07K08K12K )

4. INTERMITTENT MODE This is a mixed mde that alternates between Air Exchanger and Recirculatin mdes. Three settings are pssible: Intermittent-20. Activates Air Exchanger Mde fr 20 minutes befre switching t Recirculatin Mde fr 40 minutes, and s n. Intermittent-30. Activates Air Exchanger Mde fr 30 minutes befre switching t Recirculatin Mde fr 30 minutes, and s n. Intermittent-40. Activates Air Exchanger Mde fr 40 minutes befre switching t Recirculatin Mde fr 20 minutes, and s n. It is als pssible t replace Recirculatin Mde with Heat Pump Mde, depending n whether yu want t heat and cl during perids in which the air is nt renewed. Intermittent Mde features include: Lwer energy cnsumptin All the benefits f Air Exchanger Mde, depending n the type f intermittency selected. Ideal fr lng absences. and Figure 7 Intermittent Mde 20, 30 r 40 with recirculatin. and Figure 8 Intermittent Mde 20, 30 r 40 with heat pump. 14 MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc. - (BR12K-USER GUIDE )

5. SMART MODE This is a mixed mde in which pririty is given t Air Exchanger Mde. When the micrcntrller decides n a call fr heat r cld, it stps Air Exchanger Mde and switches t Heat Pump Mde. Hwever, if the utside air temperature is unsuitable fr either mde, the micrcntrller will switch t Recirculatin Mde. Smart Mde features include: Optimizes energy balance. Priritizes air exchange mde. Transfrms int a heat pump upn calls fr heat r cling. Ges int recirculatin mde when climatic cnditins are unsuitable fr air exchanger r heat pump mdes. r r Figure 9 Smart Mde. 16 INSTALLATION PROCEDURES IMPORTANT INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS PERSONAL SAFETY Wear safety glasses when installing the MINOTAIR. Fllw prfessinal safety standards and all lcal regulatins. REGULATIONS WARNING! The MINOTAIR shuld be installed in accrdance with the lcal building cdes that are in effect. In absence f such requirements, it is advisable t check with lcal authrities having jurisdictin in yur area. DEVICE INSPECTION WARNING! D nt pwer n device at this pint. Inspect the utside f the device t make sure it is nt damaged. Make sure the panel, the hinges, the damper, the vents, the fan blades, the husing and the installatin hks are in gd cnditin. Any damage sustained during transprt must be reprted within 24 hurs f delivery. CHOOSING WHERE TO INSTALL THE MINOTAIR Chse an accessible lcatin that will allw and facilitate maintenance and repairs. Avid lunging areas, ffices and bedrms. It is recmmended t sundprf the selected lcatin if it is t clse t rms where quietness is desired. In this case, use a slid cre dr and affix a rubber dr sweep (weather strip) at its bttm t seal the space between the bttm f the dr and flr. D nt use luvered r accrdin drs as they have very limited t n sundprfing capacity. The device must be installed inside the huse and never utside and the lcatin must maintain an ambient temperature between 16 C and 27 C (60 F and 80 F). The device must be lcated near a 120V electrical surce, which must be dedicated t the device. N ther device can use this same circuit. The lcatin must be clse t a flr drain. If that is impssible r if there is n flr drain in the huse, yu must install a cndensate pump (nt supplied) in rder t eliminate cndensatin in a water return pipe. Fr example, a washing machine return pipe culd be used. Cndensate pumps can be fund in mst hardware stres. If the air ducts are nt already installed, it is preferable t plan their curse befre deciding n the unit s final lcatin. 16 MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc. - (BR12K-USER GUIDE )

CHOOSING AN INSTALLATION METHOD The MINOTAIR must be installed using ne f the fllwing three methds: Cnnectin t a frced air ventilatin system Simplified methd. Cnnectin t a frced air ventilatin system Extractin at the surce. Cnnectin t an independent system f ventilatin ducts. CONNECTION TO A FORCED AIR VENTILATION SYSTEM SIMPLIFIED METHOD The easiest installatin methd. It will prvide fresh air t all rms serviced by the ventilatin system. Stale air extractin is dne thrugh existing return grilles and ducts. This methd is nly pssible if the MINOTAIR can be installed in the same rm where the frced air system ventilatr is lcated. It is required that the frced air ventilatr runs cntinuusly r ventilatr peratins be interlcked with the G terminal f the MINOTAIR. A minimum distance f 6 ft. (2 m) between return and supply cnnectins is required. Figure 10 Cnnectin t a frced air ventilatin system Simplified methd. NOTE: See the sectin abut Balancing the MINOTAIR fr whether t add a register key at this lcatin. MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc (BR07K08K12K )

CONNECTION TO A FORCED AIR VENTILATION SYSTEM EXTRACTION AT THE SOURCE This installatin methd will prvide fresh air t all rms serviced by the ventilatin system. Hwever, stale air will be extracted directly at the surce thrugh dedicated ducts. This ptin is nly pssible if the MINOTAIR can be installed in the same rm where the frced air system ventilatr is lcated. It is required that the frced air ventilatr runs cntinuusly r ventilatr peratins be interlcked with the G terminal f the MINOTAIR. Figure 11 Cnnectin t a frced air ventilatin system Extractin at the surce. NOTE: See the sectin abut Balancing the MINOTAIR fr whether t add a register key at this lcatin. 18 MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc. - (BR12K-USER GUIDE )

CONNECTION TO AN INDEPENDENT SYSTEM OF VENTILATION DUCTS This type f installatin is required when the huse is heated thrugh electric basebards r a radiant system. Since these systems d nt include frced air ventilatin ducts, it is necessary t install a dedicated system f ventilatin ducts. Figure 12 Cnnectin t an independent system f ventilatin ducts. MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc (BR07K08K12K )

EXTRACTION SUPPLY CALCULATING VENTILATION AIRFLOW The airflw rate f fresh air and stale air required thrughut the huse must be calculated by adding tgether the airflws required fr each rm, as indicated in the shaded clumns belw. Airflws are dented in cubic feet per minute (cfm) r liters per secnd (l/s). The smaller a rm is in cmparisn t the ther rms, the clser the airflw rate must be t the Min value. Bigger rms will require airflw rates clser t the Max value. 21 EXTRACTION SUPPLY SIZING AIR DUCTS T minimize turbulence and ventilatin nise, the ducts shuld be sized based n the numbers in the shaded clumns belw, unless they have been therwise sized by a qualified prfessinal. The cnduits diameters are dented in inches (in) r in millimeters (mm). The duct diameter must be prprtinal t the airflw established fr the rm. Thus, if the airflw has been established based n the Min clumn, then the duct diameter must als be sized accrding t the Min clumn. If the Max clumn r anther value in-between was used, than the duct must be sized accrding t the Max clumn, r the adequate value in-between Min and Max. If there is n inbetween value, use the Max value. Fr each dwelling Recmmended airflw fr each rm Air ducts diameter fr each rm cfm l/s in mm Rms requiring a fresh air supply* Min Max Min Max Min Max Min Max Each bedrm (ne persn) Each bedrm (tw persns) Hme ffice Main lunging rm (living rm) Each flr nt already serviced by air supply Basement if nt already serviced by air supply Optinal rms t be supplied* Dining rm Family rm Play rm Any ther furnished rm Recmmended rms fr stale air extractin* Bathrm r shwer Restrm Kitchen (minimum distance between the return grille and any cking surface must be 3m (10ft.)). 22 The main ducts diameter depends n the airflw that was calculated at the previus step. If the airflw is 180 cfm (105 l/s) r less, it is pssible t use main ducts f 6 in (150 mm). The diameter f the main ducts will then require t be adjusted t 6in (150mm) in the micrcntrller s ventilatin menu. Remember that this setting will decrease heating and cling efficiency in heat pump mde by apprximately 10 t 15%. Als remember that the clser yu get t the 180 cfm (105 l/s) limit, the mre ventilatin nise will be nticeable in the air ducts. If enugh space is available, it is always preferable t chse main ducts f 8 in (200 mm) t use the MINOTAIR t its full ptential and t minimize ventilatin nise level. The diameter f the main ducts will then be required t be adjusted t 8in (200mm) in the micrcntrller s ventilatin menu. Nte that yu can replace an 8 in (200 mm) duct with tw 6 in (150 mm) ducts. If space des nt allw the use f 8 in (200 mm) ducts fr all main ducts, yu must favr the main distributin duct (fresh air t building) t minimize the ventilatin nise at the supply grilles. IMPORTANT! In high speed r heat pump mde, ventilatin increases significantly. T minimize ventilatin nise, it is recmmended t have a minimum number f supply and return ducts based n whether the main ducts are 6 in (150 mm) r 8 in (200 mm) in diameter : Main ducts 6 in (150 mm) : Minimum recmmendatins fr supply ducts : Minimum 1 x 6 in (150 mm) duct and 1 x 5 in (125 mm), r Minimum 1 x 6 in (150 mm) duct and 2 x 4 in (100 mm), r Minimum 2 x 5 in (125 mm) ducts and 1 x 4 in (100 mm), r Minimum 1 x 5 in (125 mm) duct and 3 x 4 in (100 mm), r Minimum 5 x 4 in (100 mm) ducts. Apply same recmmendatins fr return ducts. Main ducts 8 in (200 mm) : Minimum recmmendatins fr supply ducts : Minimum 2 x 6 in (150 mm) ducts, r Minimum 1 x 6 in (150 mm) duct and 2 x 5 in (125 mm), r Minimum 1 x 6 in (150 mm) duct, 1 x 5 in (125 mm) and 2 x 4 in (100 mm), r Minimum 1 x 6 in (150 mm) duct and 4 x 4 in (100 mm), r Minimum 3 x 5 in (125 mm) ducts and 1 x 4 in (100 mm), r Minimum 2 x 5 in (125 mm) ducts and 3 x 4 in (100 mm), r Minimum 1 x 5 in (125 mm) duct and 5 x 4 in (100 mm), r Minimum 7 x 4 in (100 mm) ducts. Apply same recmmendatins fr return ducts. 22 MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc. - (BR12K-USER GUIDE )

BASIC GUIDELINES FOR AIR DUCTS Air ducts must always be installed n the warm side f the building envelpe, such as the interir walls, the flrs r the ceilings. Avid installing ducts in the attic r in unheated spaces, but where this cannt be avided, use ducts with an R-Value f at least R-4 (RSI 0.7), ideally R-8 (RSI 1.4). All ducts that g thrugh an air r vapur barrier must be sealed hermetically at the pint f entry. T attenuate vibratin transfers caused by the device, small sectins f flexible ducts are required at the fur vents. These ducts must be between 6 in and 2 ft. (15 t 60 cm) at the mst and be insulated if necessary (see Figure 10, Figure 11, and Figure 12). All ventilatin ducts must be made f rigid materials, in galvanized sheet metal r an equivalent material, and be cleanable when needed. Hwever, if rigid ducts are nt a pssibility, flexible materials can be used (see Installing flexible ducts ). All ventilatin ducts must be airtight. T achieve this, all jints, cracks and hles n the ducts, as well as all fittings, must be sealed with mastic r aluminium tape. Straight tees and elbws (withut bends) shuld be avided. Chse wye fittings and curved elbws fr better flw and nise management. MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc (BR07K08K12K )

INSULATING AIR DUCTS All air ducts lcated n the cld side, namely the fresh air intake frm utside and the stale air utlet t utside, must have an R-value f at least R-4 (RSI 0.7), ideally R-8 (RSI 1.4). It is strngly advised, but nt mandatry, t insulate the distributin ducts t minimize energy lss when distributing heated r cled air. CAUTION! During cling peratins, cndensatin culd frm n the surface f the uninsulated distributin ducts, which culd cause water damage. It is nt necessary t insulate stale air return ducts. All insulating sleeves must be equipped with an adequate vapur barrier film, preferably made f aluminium. All jints must be airtight and sealed with aluminium tape. INSTALLING FLEXIBLE DUCTS Generally, flexible ducts shuld be avided because they prduce a lt f restrictin which leads t a higher static pressure inside the ducts. The higher the static pressure, the mre the fans will have t turn t cmpensate, which in turn increases ventilatin nise and energy cnsumptin. If yu have t install flexible ducts (ther than ducts specifically installed t attenuate vibratins, as described earlier), they must: Be as shrt as pssible, Be tight enugh t reduce the internal rughness caused by the duct s natural flds, Nt be crushed, and Nt have a bend radius inferir t the rigid elbws bend radius when changing directin. 24 MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc. - (BR12K-USER GUIDE )

LOCATION OF INSIDE GRILLES SUPPLY GRILLES The air supply grilles must be lcated and installed in a manner that ptimizes air circulatin in the rms. Generally, air distributin must be perfrmed thrugh wall grilles. The air supply grilles must be lcated n the upper part f the wall, at least 1 ft. (30 cm) frm the finished ceiling and at least 6 ft. 6 in (2 m) frm the flr. It is als pssible t distribute air thrugh flr grilles. Hwever, flr grilles d nt prvide as gd air circulatin as wall grilles, and can be a surce f discmfrt fr sme persns. RETURN GRILLES Generally, air extractin must be perfrmed thrugh wall grilles. The air return grilles must be installed n the upper part f the wall, at least 1 ft. (30 cm) frm the finished ceiling and at least 6 ft. 6 in (2 m) frm the flr. WARNING! The return grilles cannt be installed less than 10 ft. (3 m) frm a cking surface. Air extractin frm cking surfaces must be perfrmed by a kitchen hd. It is als pssible t perfrm air extractin thrugh flr grilles. Hwever, flr grilles are prne t capturing debris that culd clg the inside f the air return ducts. LOCATION OF OUTSIDE HOODS All utside hds must be wall type. All utside hds which g thrugh the building envelpe must: Be hermetically sealed, n their perimeter, t the sealing system they penetrate. Be equipped with a grid t stp small rdents frm entering. This grid must nt be t fine, because it culd restrict air frm passing thrugh and becme easily clgged with dust. The fresh air intake hd must be lcated at least 1 ft. 6 in (45 cm) frm surfaces where snw may accumulate and at least 6 ft. (1,8 m) frm any exhaust air utlet, driveways r any ther surce f cntaminatin. The stale air exhaust hd must be lcated at least 1ft. 6 in (45 cm) frm surfaces where snw may accumulate and be equipped with an airtight back draft damper. MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc (BR07K08K12K )

BALANCING THE SYSTEM BALANCING REGISTERS All ducts leading t an air intake r utlet grille shuld be equipped with register keys. The keys must be lcked and secured mechanically after final balancing (see Figure 10, Figure 11, and Figure 12). Where pssible, register keys must be installed at least 5 ft. (1.5 m) away frm the grilles in rder t minimize ventilatin nise. It is recmmended t keep the register keys accessible thrugh an access panel r unfinished ceiling. Grilles with integrated registers shuld be avided, because they can be nisy when air passes thrugh them. BALANCING THE MINOTAIR In nrmal circumstances, the MINOTAIR des nt require balancing because its cnstant airflw fans ensure cntinuus balancing with a tlerance f ± 9% at mre than 1 W.G. (250 Pa) f static pressure within the ventilatin ducts. This margin f errr is within standards. If balancing is required, it is pssible t adjust the airflw f the extractin fan t make it up t 10% inferir t the fresh air intake fan. This setting is accessible in the Ventilatin menu f the micrcntrller. CAUTION! In case the MINOTAIR is cnnected t a frced air ventilatin system, the MINOTAIR's minimum airflw must be cnfirmed in rder t deal with the large pressure differences between the frced air systems and the MINOTAIR. T d this, run the frced air system ventilatr at full speed while running the MINOTAIR at its lwest speed, i.e. 80 CFM (40 l/s), in Air Exchanger mde. Verify that the static pressure reprted by the MINOTAIR is greater than r equal t 0.2 W.G. (50 Pa) (refer t the ventilatin menu). If it is nt (i.e. the pressure is less than r equal t 0.1 W.G. (25 Pa)), yu will need t install a register key (Figure 10 and Figure 11) and adjust it until the static pressure indicates 0.2 W.G. (50 Pa). That s it! The MINOTAIR cnstant airflw fans will ensure real-time calibratin f supply and exhaust airflws frm nw n. 26 MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc. - (BR12K-USER GUIDE )

SECURING THE MINOTAIR The munting lcatin must be slid enugh t supprt the weight f the device filled with water, in case the drain clgs up, which is a ttal weight f 55 kg (120 lb). The MINOTAIR must be suspended using the fur specially designed hks. Nyln straps, metal wire and chain (nt supplied) are all acceptable means f tying the device. It is imprtant t make sure each tie can supprt a minimum weight f 120 lb (55 kg). Each tie must have its upper part secured by the equivalent f a #10 screw (M5), at least 1¼ in (3 cm) deep. The lwer part f the tie is attached t its crrespnding hk n ne f the MINOTAIR s fur crners. Ensure there is a space f at least 16 in (40 cm) in frnt f and under the device t pen the access panel. If that is impssible, the panel can be remved cmpletely by sliding it t the right. In that case, ensure there is a space t the right f the device f at least 2 in (5 cm). Allw fr a minimum space f ½ in (1 cm) between the device and the walls. D nt install the device directly against a wall, because the vibratins it makes while functining will transfer t the building structure and may disturb the ccupants. The device must be level after installatin. Figure 13 Optin fr munting the MINOTAIR using the flr jists. MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc (BR07K08K12K )

CONNECTING THE CONDENSATE DRAIN Cnnect the female end f the fitting (supplied) t the cndensate drain lcated under the device. Cnnect the male end f the fitting t a ¾ in (19 mm) internal diameter flexible tubing (nt included). It is als pssible t use a rigid PVC pipe assembly (nt supplied) instead f flexible tubing. A lp must be made with the tubing t create a water trap. The tp f the lp must nt be lcated clser than 6 in (15 cm) frm the bttm f the device. Use a metal r nyln tie t ensure the lp keeps its shape. It is recmmended t fill the trap with water befre starting up the device fr the first time in rder t avid suctin nises. Hwever, the trap will eventually fill itself up with the accumulatin f cndensate. The ther end f the pipe must end its curse in the flr drain r a cndensate pump. Using a bucket is nt recmmended, because the MINOTAIR will fill it quickly n humid days, which will then cause spills n the flr. Check drain regularly, because if it becmes clgged, water will accumulate in the unit and eventually spill n the flr thrugh the tw verflw drain hles n the sides. Figure 14 Make a lp with the drainpipe t create a water trap. 28 MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc. - (BR12K-USER GUIDE )

CONNECTING TO FORCED AIR VENTILATOR AND OTHER CENTRAL UNITS If ne f the tw frced air ventilatin system installatin methds was chsen, the system s ventilatr cntrl terminal must be cnnected t the G terminal f the terminal strip, which will send a 24VAC signal when the MINOTAIR s ventilatin will be in peratin. If the central heating unit is cntrlled by the MINOTAIR, the heat generatr s cntrl terminal must be cnnected t the W terminal, which will send a 24VAC signal when the MINOTAIR calls fr heat. If the central cling unit is cntrlled by the MINOTAIR, the air cnditiner s cntrl terminal must be cnnected t the Y terminal, which will send a 24VAC signal when the MINOTAIR calls fr cling. If the central humidifier is cntrlled by the MINOTAIR, its cntrl terminal must be cnnected t the H terminal, which will send a 24VAC signal when the MINOTAIR calls fr humidity. If a mtrized damper cntrls a fifth prt, its cntrl terminal must be cnnected t the 5 terminal, which will send a 24VAC signal when the MINOTAIR perates in Recirculatin r Heat Pump mdes. In these mdes, a fifth prt will ensure husehld drs frm the kitchen r bathrms will nt be intrduced int the living spaces f the hme envirnment. In all cases mentined abve, each device s cmmn cntrl wire must be cnnected t the C terminal n the MINOTAIR. Figure 15 Cnnectin t a frced air ventilatr and ther central devices. Dry cntact cntrlled equipment. In cases where a device must be cntrlled thrugh dry cntacts as is ften the case with humidifiers a relay (nt supplied) must be added, t be activated by the 24VAC signal sent by the crrespnding terminal and whse nrmally pen and cmmn cntacts will cnnect t the dry cntact terminal f the device in questin (Figure 16). Figure 16 Cnnecting t a dry cntact cntrlled humidifier with the use f a relay. MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc (BR07K08K12K )

CONNECTING TO A BATHROOM TIMER (OPTIONAL) Bathrms can be equipped with a cntrl device (timer, push-buttn r ther) t activate, when needed, the MINOTAIR s air exchanger mde at its high speed setting. All types f timers perating at 120VAC r 24VAC are cmpatible with the MINOTAIR, with the additin f multi-vltage relays (nt supplied). Only ne relay per timer type is required, depending n the required vltage. Timers perating at the same vltage can be cnnected tgether in parallel. CAUTION! Never pair timers perating at different vltages n the same relay. CAUTION! Never apply electrical vltage n starred (*) terminals, because this will irreparably damage the micrcntrller. Always use a cmpatible multi-vltage relay t islate the timers frm the starred terminals. Such relays are available frm all MINOTAIR authrized representatives. The nly exceptin t this rule is the use f a dry cntact switch r push-buttn (requiring n electrical vltage). Figure 17 Cnnecting bathrm timers. 30 MINOTAIR Ventilatin Inc. - (BR12K-USER GUIDE )

CONNECTING THE WALL MOUNT DIGITAL CONTROL (OPTIONAL) If the MINOTAIR includes a wall munt digital cntrl (ptinal), it must be cnnected using a standard 6-wire telephne cable. The cnnectrs must be 6-psitin RJ11 type. Maximum cable length fr cnnectins is 150 ft. (45 m). Nte that there are n temperature r humidity sensrs in the wall munt cntrl, which means yu it can be installed just abut anywhere. Hwever, we recmmend an easily accessible lcatin where it can be cnsulted ften. Fr example, hallways leading t the bedrms, the living rm r the dining rm are gd lcatins. The digital cntrl is installed n the wall using tw screws (supplied). The height shuld be chsen t facilitate reading. One end f the cable cnnects t the back f the digital cntrl, while the ther end cnnects t the 6-psitin jack labelled MINO CONTROL, lcated n tp f the MINOTAIR. If the installatin includes tw wall munt digital cntrls, a cable divider (ptinal) must be cnnected t the MINO CONTROL jack lcated n tp f the device. This will duble the MINO CONTROL jack s that each cntrl can have its wn cable. CONNECTING THE MINOTAIR This is the last step befre pwering n the MINOTAIR. A 120VAC/15A circuit must be used and the cnnectin must be made by a qualified electrician. It is always advised t install a wall switch nearby the MINOTAIR that can be used t cut pwer during repair r maintenance activities (Figure 18). N ther device can share the same circuit as the MINOTAIR. If a cndensate pump is required, it must be cnnected t a different circuit. Figure 18 Cnnecting the device. NOTE: It is imprtant t chse a ventilatin speed that crrespnds t the huse s requirements. A lw speed can lead t a decrease in cmfrt and ambient air quality. On the ther hand, a high speed can dry the air and cause cracks in the wd, as well as increasing heating and cling csts. NOTE: Once the device is peratinal, the airflw may deviate frm the setpint, depending n the temperature and humidity settings in effect. This is nrmal. Tw reasns can cause this behaviur: It culd be due t the device s prtectin mechanism, which is designed t keep the cmpressin rati f the cmpressr within the manufacturer s pre-established security parameters. It culd als be due t the micrcntrller s internal mechanism, which is designed t maximize energy transfer. 1.3 Units: CFM. Ventilatin speed will display in cubic feet per minute. L/S. 47 TEMPERATURE SETTINGS SCREEN (CONT D) 2.6 Figure 40 Examples f ptins t adjust utside temperature calibratin. 2.7 Figure 41 Examples f ptins t calibrate the inside temperature sensr. The MINOTAIR uses temperature sensrs t measure utside and ambient temperatures. Hwever, since the sensrs are integrated int the device, their temperatures readings may differ frm what the sensrs wuld have measured if they had been lcated utside the huse (fr utside temperature) r in a living space like the living rm (fr ambient temperature). In fact, temperatures measured by each sensr will be directly impacted by the air intake duct s level f insulatin and airflw rate. T cmpensate fr this discrepancy, the MINOTAIR temperature sensrs must be calibrated. The calibratin prcess is perfrmed nce the device s installatin is cmplete. Fr best results, a difference f at least 10 C (20 F) between utside and inside temperatures is preferred when calibrating. The greater the difference, the mre precise the calibratin will be. 2.6 Calibrating utside temperature. Press the R buttn t start the calibratin prcess. The device will take 300 secnds t stabilize. During this time, measure the utside temperature with a thermmeter.
