Introduction: This is the first edition of CAN/CSA C22.2 No It replaces CAN/CSA-E /4E published in The standard is now harmonized with NMX-J-521/1-ANCE (First Edition) and UL (Fifth Edition). This new, Tri-National, publication is based on IEC Publication , edition 4.2, including the Interpretation Sheet issued February, Edition 4.2 refers to the fourth edition of IEC published in 2001, consolidated with its two amendments published in 2004 and 2006 and its two corrigenda published in 2002 and Background and Rationale: Publication of this particular Standard marks an important step forward in not only the harmonization of Canadian with those used in the United States and Mexico, but also those developed internationally. Every effort has been made to ensure that the harmonization of an existing standard with the international practices maintains the concern for Electrical safety. CSA in the series consist of one Part 1 ( ) and several Part 2 (E XX). Each Part 2 is for a more specific product type and works in conjunction with Part 1 by accepting the content of the clause without change, or by adding to, amending or omitting it. When no Part 2 Standard exists for a specific product type, but the product is found to fall within the scope of the Part 1 Standard, CSA may be used as the basis for Certification. No immediate action is necessary; however, manufacturers should be aware that various Part 2s based on this or subsequent editions of the Part 1, may impose mandatory effective dates. In such cases, CSA Group will issue Certification Notices accordingly to announce these effective dates, with sufficient time provided for manufacturers to prepare.
