4 Page 4 Heart of Missouri Master Gardener Newsletter Committee Updates The Learning Garden The Heart of Missouri Master Gardeners have donated 350 pounds of produce to the Central Pantry this summer. The pantry is always eager to see what we bring in twice weekly. Jack Wax and I typically drop the food off at the food pantry. A BIG thank you to Jack for all of the time that he has volunteered to the garden this summer! Now we can use everyone s help in getting ready for the tour visiting the garden during the State MG Conference. We have been busy removing crops that are finished and replanting fall crops including: radishes, turnips, lettuce and spinach. We love the long beans that are growing on the west fence and over our gate. Thank you Alex, for donating these seeds. The basil has been gorgeous this year and the two types of okra that Dennis planted are about tall now. Submitted by Ellen Condron Please join us in the garden on either work day Thursday evenings about 5:15 p.m. and Monday mornings at 8:15 a.m. Questions, or to volunteer, ellencondron2@gmail.com Co-Chairs: Ellen Condron and Julie Deering The Learning Garden and Community Garden is located Behind Broadway Christian Church 2601 W. Broadway, Columbia, MO Harvest in the Heartland 2015 MG State Conference UPDATE Conference information and registration is on line at This will be our last meeting as a group to work on the MG Conference. We will be stuffing Welcome Bags. We have a lot of stuff so please come help. I will have a cell list with a timeline for everyone to use during the conference. We will cover any last minute details for the conference. Books will again be for sale for those that didn t get any at the last meeting or if you weren t in attendance. Remaining books will be sold during the state conference. Submitted by Marie Pasley ****************************************************************** I have been working with Don Day on getting the composting area cleaned up at our Learning Garden. Don would like to make this an area wide example of composting practices. We would like to get the help of interested Master Gardeners for a clean-up and composting session. We will do this session at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 24 th. The session will include some discussion on the basics and principles of composting, plus work on the composting bins at the garden. I expect we will be done by 8:00 p.m. We are looking for a few MG s to join us in some Composting dirty work.
