Advance Entry is required for all Sections A-B, Classes Please contact the Special Exhibits Entry Chairs/Consultants appropriate to the class you wish to enter: Classes 1, 2 and 3, Sharon Bales No more than one entry per class is permitted. 5. All exhibits in Artistic Crafts must contain some plant material. Fresh plant material may never be treated. No artificial flowers, fruit or vegetables are permitted. Emphasis throughout the division must be on fresh plant material. 6. Plants named on Federated Garden Clubs of New York State, Inc. and the Second District s Protected Native Plants list cannot be exhibited in competitive classes, except in Special Exhibits Division as an Educational Exhibit. Such plants must have been acquired in a lawful manner and may be cut specimens and/or potted plants. Commercially developed hybrids or cultivars (not natural varieties) of plants on the protected lists are permitted in competitive classes, but only when the distinguishing feature is evident. The hybrid or cultivar must be named on the entry card. 7. Artistic Crafts exhibits are not eligible for Top Exhibitor Awards. 8. 2 Artistic Craft Exhibit Rules Division III, Special Exhibits, Adult 1. Advance entry required for Section A, all classes. Please contact the Artistic Crafts Advance Entry Chair/Consultant to enter a class. 2. No more than one entry per class is permitted. 3. All exhibits in Section A must contain some plant material. Class 1, 2, and 3 class exhibitors may use fresh and/or dried plant material. 4. Minimum of 3 classes with four exhibits in each class. Educational Exhibit Rules 1. Advance entry required for all exhibits in Educational Exhibits, Section B,. 2. To be eligible for an Educational Top Exhibitor Award, exhibit must occupy a minimum of eighteen (18) square feet surface area. 3. It is not mandatory that plant material be included in exhibit. However, National Garden Clubs encourages the use of plant material in exhibits whenever appropriate, especially fresh plant material. Special Exhibits Division Scales of Points 1. Bust of a Woman four entries A hat, staged in the Tavern Room, left of entrance. Three hats are staged on a dark free standing pine trestle table 85 Lx25.5Wx30.5 H with brass candelabra above and one hat on a round wooden table 24 Dx19 H in corner. Hat designed with fresh and/or dried plant material with other optional components permitted.. Displayed on a glass head, provided by the committee. Table coverings provided by committee. Masks WIithout Faces four entries A mask, staged in the Second Parlor, on a closed pipe organ 45 Lx 23.5 Wx33.5H and on a wooden table 48 Lx32 Wx29 H, set ain front of a cream colored wall.. Mask, half or full, designed with fresh and/or dried plant material with other optional components permitted. Displayed on a foam head with dark underlay. Mask, foam head and underlay provided by the committee, as well as table covering.. Space allotted on table is 24 Lx24W. Rene Magritte Class 3. Wire Hanger Chair (Bride and Groom) four entries Model chair, staged in the Central Hall Foyer, displayed on a table 72 Lx29.5 Wx29 H against a white background. Unadorned chair may be of any material and designed with fresh and/or dried plant material. Other optional components permitted. Model chair not to exceed 16 Lx16 W.. Educational Exhibits Eagle Consultant and Advance Entry Chair: Pat Rosenberg Class 4, Exhibits 1 and 2 are eligible for the Educational Top Exhibitor Award (Rosette of brown and white ribbons) Each exhibit must occupy a minimum of eighteen (18) square feet of surface area. Advance entry required. Exhibits 1 and 2 are competitive Andy Warhol, Andy Warhol Foundation Class 4. Exhibit 1 a. 9 AM What is a CSA? What does it mean to grow organic? Why should I support locally grown farm produce? How can I find out more about CSAs on the East End? Answers to all these questions will be answered in this educational exhibit. Staged on a 6 Lx30 W table set against a wood sided wall.. Thomas Hart Benton Exhibit 1 b. Still Life with Flowers Blooms in Art: Dutch Flower Paintings of the 17th Century In the late 16th and early 17th century Dutch trade introduced many rare and exotic blooms to the Netherlands. The first botanical garden was established in 1590 at Leiden University and others followed. Tulip bulbs were traded for fortunes on the market, and a school of art, featuring some of the most beautiful and detailed still life paintings of flowers ever painted, flourished. Staged on a 6 Lx30 W table set against a wood sided wall.. Rachel Ruysh Invitational Exhibits (non Competitive) Class 5 is eligible for Award of Appreciation Rosette of orchid ribbons Class 5. 5 Division III: Special Exhibits, Youth Rules 1. All General Rules apply. 2. Youth exhibits will be received at Havens House from 3PM to 6PM, Tuesday, July 20, 2010, and must be removed promptly Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 5:30PM. 3. All horticulture must have been in the possession of and cared for by the exhibitor for at least 60 days. 4. Designs must have been made under the supervision of a Youth Division Chair and each design must be the work of the individual exhibitor. 5. Plants named on the Federated Garden Clubs of New York State and Second District Protected Native Plants of New York State list are prohibited. 6. No artificial flowers, foliage, fruit or vegetables permitted. Fresh plant material may never be treated. 7. All exhibits in Youth Artistic Crafts and Design must contain some plant material. Emphasis throughout the section must be on fresh plant material. 8. Winning exhibits must each score 90 or above, judged by the Adult Scale of Points. 9.
