4 Christmas at the Botanics The magical, botanical, illuminated trail It s beginning to look a lot like Christmas when the trees and Glasshouses of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh are spectacularly lit and all aglow. There s something for everyone at this festive event, a one-mile illuminated trail that winds its way through the world-famous Garden providing a magical experience after dark. This year, the new 2017 winter trail is a botanical wonderland inspired by the Garden itself. As you enter, greeted by the sights and sounds of Christmas, wander beneath the tree canopies bathed in seasonal colour. Follow the path through the enchanting Crystal Lawn and stop for a moment to change the colour of the trees yourself. As you head down the hill, prepare to be mesmerised by the hypnotic beauty of a flickering, scented Fire Garden. As the path narrows, enjoy the sight and sounds of the Choir of the Trees, a woodland grove of singing conifers and then continue towards glittering trees festooned with giant baubles. Then, stroll along a fairy tale avenue of giant glowing structures rising high into the night sky and pause at the magnificent Beech Hedge illuminated by flashes of sparkling light. Don t forget to watch out for Santa and his elves along the way. Complete your Christmas treat under the stars with spiced cider, mulled wine or hot chocolate whilst the aroma of roasting chestnuts fills the air. Gather to toast marshmallows at one of the fire pits and enjoy other traditional fare before browsing the Garden s festive gift shop. 4
