1 MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDING OFFICER, DEVONSHIRE AREA Greetings all, We continue to have a very wet winter, which makes our roads slick to drive on. Please slow down and drive safely. Burglary, Grand Theft Auto and Burglary Theft from Motor Vehicle crimes continue to rise and I am asking our Devonshire community to be vigilant in your day-today activities. Be aware of your surroundings and if there appears to be suspicious activity, please contact the police with detailed description. Your information may be the next best clue to help us solve a crime. We are utilizing every resource available to address crime trends in problematic areas. If you are interested in a Neighborhood Watch Program, please contact your Senior Lead Officer to arrange a start-up Neighborhood Watch meeting. If you have questions about crime prevention tips or programs, call at (818) During the month of February, the American Red Cross and our Senior Lead Officer Patti Peteque organized our annual Battle of the Badge Blood Drive. It was another successful turnout with a goal of 30 units of blood to collect and a total of 42 units of blood were collected. Great job! We also had our first Coffee with the Captain of the year at the Coffee Bean in the Northridge Fashion Center. Captain Lium, Lieutenant Torsney and I, were surrounded by many community members asking questions about crimes in their neighborhoods and some being victims of crime. We provided helpful crime prevention tips and current laws, such as AB109, Propositions 47 and 57 affecting the spike in crime. A special thanks to our Senior Lead Officers for organizing a successful event! As you read the highlights by our Senior Lead Officers, please share their messages with your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and clergy members. The partnership between the community and Devonshire Community Police is paramount for the continued success in crime reduction for Devonshire Area. I look forward to working with all of you and protecting the community we serve in the Devonshire Area. 2 BASIC CAR HIGHLIGHTS SLO Supervisor, Sgt. II Jose Torres 32324Alapd.lacity.org, Direct No.: (818) or Main No.: (818) BASIC CAR AREA 17A23 Senior Lead Officer Daniel Del Valle, Direct No.: (818) online and CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: The crime of concern for our area is Burglary. Burglaries have been occurring from Rinaldi Street to Lassen Street and Topanga Canyon Avenue to Canoga Avenue. The suspects generally operate during the day when residents are at work or running errands. Please let others know of the crime activity that is occurring in the area and report suspicious activity. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: On February 18, 2017, our area had a community clean up surrounding Mason Park. I would like to thank the organizer Anne Weaver, the Chatsworth Neighborhood Council, Kiwanis Organization, and most importantly everyone that showed up and helped. The next Basic Car 17A23 Neighborhood Watch Meeting is Thursday, March 23, 2017, 7:00 P.M., located at the Saint John Eudes Church, 9901 Mason Avenue in Chatsworth. Our meetings are held every 4 th Thursday of the month. CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION AND TIPS: Unattended open garage doors are an attraction to potential thieves. Please remember to close your garage doors if you are not in the immediate area. It only takes seconds for a thief to walk into your garage or home, and walk off with your property. I would also suggest marking your valuables with your driver's license number for identification purposes, as this would allow any law enforcement the ability to locate a potential victim. BASIC CAR AREA 17A35 Senior Lead Officer Dario Del Core, Direct No.: (818) or Cell No.: (818) @lapd. online and CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: The Basic car area is experiencing a spike in residential burglary activity, especially North of Rinaldi involving both the Granada Hills and Porter Ranch sectors. Traditionally, residential burglary has been commonly occurring on Monday through Friday between 9:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. However, the latest trends involve late afternoon/early evening hours and 2 nd story entries have been most prevalent during the month of January and February in the Porter Ranch Area. As LAPD continue their efforts towards the apprehension of the individuals responsible for these crimes, I urge all residents to be highly vigilant. Be especially alert to any kind of door-to-door solicitations, folks posing as sales people, or repair technicians, including those wearing what may look like official type of utility uniforms. We see another trend of "knock-knock" style burglary occurring again. Don't forget to secure all doors/windows, including 2 nd story entry points, when leaving your home.

3 NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: Our next Basic Car Neighborhood Watch meeting will be on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, 7:00 P.M., located at Saint Euphrasia Church, Shoshone Avenue in Granada Hills. CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION AND TIPS: Take every precaution in securing your property and be highly aware of your surroundings. Look for vehicles and activity which is unusual for your neighborhood. If you suspect criminal activity, don't hesitate to phone the police right away. It is better to err on the side of caution than to let a potentially dangerous situation develop without reporting it. Please be detailed in your description of what you observe when reporting to the police. Use 911 for all emergencies and crimes in progress. Use the direct dispatch line for all nonemergency calls by dialing BASIC CAR AREA 17A49 Senior Lead Officer Janine Angeles, Direct No.: (818) @lapd.online and CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: The following crime statistics are from January 22 to February 18, These numbers reflect the number of crimes which occurred in Basic Car 17A49 only. There were (8) Grand Theft Autos, (4) Robberies, (13) Thefts, (22) Burglaries, (5) Aggravated Assaults and (34) Burglary/Theft from Motor Vehicles. The crime in our basic car area is up 25% from last year at this time. Be aware of your surroundings! Please report suspicious activity. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: Our first Basic Car Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, 7:00 P.M., located at Granada Hills Charter School (Room A7), Zelzah Avenue in Granada Hills. CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION AND TIPS: Having an alarm system is not a guarantee that your home will not be burglarized but it does help. Here are some tips for you to help prevent your home from being burglarized. Use the yard signs and window stickers provided to you by the alarm company to let suspects know you have an alarm. If possible, get a monitored home security system. Install indoor and outdoor motion-activated home security cameras so you can check your home throughout the day. Remember to lock your doors and windows and set your alarm. Make sure to have heavy duty locks and deadbolts. Most burglars head to your master bedroom first. They look through dresser drawers, under mattresses, in your coat pockets and will even take safes if they are not secured to the floor. Burglars are looking for your jewelry, cash, and weapons. Per the U.S. Department of Justice, approximately 28% of burglaries are committed while people are home. Turn on your alarm even when you are home. By using the above suggestions, you will reduce your chances of becoming a victim of a burglary. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A START UP MEETING!

4 BASIC CAR AREA 17A67 Senior Lead Officer Patti Peteque, Office: (818) and CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: Basic Car A67 is currently at 36.6% YTD. We are in the negative numbers when it comes to our Violent crime category. However, we have seen a significant increase in Property Crimes. Our Burglaries are up 88.9%, Grand Theft Autos are at 80.0%, Burglary/Theft from Motor Vehicles at 18.2% and our Theft crimes are up by 56.3%. Most of our crimes occur on Fridays, Saturdays, and mid-week. Criminal activities are taking place at all hours of the day/night. However, our residential burglaries are occurring between 12:00 P.M. 6:00 P.M. Activities are happening primarily on the south end of our area between Nordhoff Street and Roscoe Boulevard. NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: Our Basic Car Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, 7:00 P.M., located at Calahan Elementary School Auditorium, Knapp Street in Northridge. I would like to extend a special thanks to those of you who joined us during our Battle of the Badges Blood Drive event on Feb 2 nd. We collected 42 units of blood which means your blood contribution will be used to save 126 lives. Great job everyone!! Please come join us again during our Summer Blood Drive in August. CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION AND TIPS: Please ensure your vehicles are locked and secured before walking away. Remember to remove all your valuables/personal property. For residential burglaries, consider improving exterior lighting of your property. Although it may be a bit pricy, installing an alarm or a security surveillance system are great tools to consider for your home protection. More importantly, continue to stay vigilant and please report any suspicious activity you may witness. If you would like to set up a start-up Neighborhood Watch meeting in your neighborhood, please don't hesitate to contact me. It is a simple and easy process! If you witness a crime in progress, Call immediately! For non-emergency call (877) As always, stay safe and well. BASIC CAR AREA 17A81 Senior Lead Officer John Parker, Direct No.: (818) @lapd. online and CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: The following Part-1 crime statistics cover from January 1 through February 18, There were (0) Homicides, (1) Rapes, (9) Robberies, (8) Aggravated Assaults, (21) Burglaries, (22) Grand Theft Autos, (58) Burglary Thefts from Motor Vehicles, and (77) Personal Thefts/Other Property. Basic Car A81 is currently up 11.4% YTD. The crime locations remain along the Tampa Avenue corridor between Plummer Street and Parthenia Street, and the De Soto corridor between Nordhoff and Chase Street. Most of the crimes occur between the hours of 12:00 P.M. 12:00 A.M.

5 NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: Our Basic Car Neighborhood Watch meeting scheduled in March is cancelled. We will resume our next Basic Car meeting on Thursday, April 20, 7:00 P.M., located at the Garden Christian Fellowship Church, Nordhoff Street in Chatsworth. CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION AND TIPS: Since we are 50% up in Robberies, 46.7% up in Burglaries, and 81.3% up in Burglaries from Motor Vehicle, here are some helpful tips: Be aware of your surrounding; Don t be focused looking at your phone while walking, especially in isolated areas; Remember to lock and secure your vehicle...removing all valuables (keep out of sight); Lock and secure your business...do not leave a large sum of money in your cash register or safe. Deposit money often; Utilize a security device for your vehicle, home, or business, especially with a surveillance camera in mind; Be vigilant not to provide an opportunity for a would-be thief; and, If you see something, say something...proactive community policing will help us stay one step ahead of the criminals. If you are interested in a start-up Neighborhood Watch meeting, please contact me via at 36560@lapd.online to schedule a meeting. March Quote: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world. " - Gandhi BASIC CAR AREA 17A95 Senior Lead Officer Efren Corral, Direct No.: (818) @lapd.online and CRIME TRENDS AND LOCATIONS: Unfortunately, we have seen an increase in our vehicle related crimes. Most of these crimes occurred on Sunday and Monday during the mid-afternoon hours and the early morning hours. Most of the crimes occurred while the vehicle was parked on the city street. Unfortunately, some of these crimes could have been prevented, a large portion of the vehicles were left open/unlocked and the suspects just opened the door. Remember to "Lock it, Hide it, and Keep it!" NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH EVENTS: The next Basic Car Neighborhood Watch meeting will be on Thursday, March 9, 2017, 7:00P.M., located at The Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Plummer Street in Northridge. CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION AND TIPS: If you park your car in the driveway, lock it. If you are going into a business for just a minute, lock it. If you think you locked it, check again, and lock it. I cannot stress it enough. Some criminals go down the street checking vehicle doors until they find the one that is unlocked. Please protect your property and do not become a victim. Lock your vehicle!
