3 1.0 ISSUES AND ACHIEVEMENTS The Security Manager, KG Security Operations Officer and GP Superintendent attended a table top exercise at Parliament House with QPS. This enhanced our already beneficial working relationship and promoted good working practices for the future. As a result of this training, QUT will be engaging other stakeholders within the CBD to develop existing plans and procedures. Tracey Bartlett, Security Systems Officer, became the co-chair of the Tertiary Education Security Network (TESN). This is a forum where organisations come together across Australia and discuss the research and development of things like access control and future projects that will aid and progress Universities in the Security technology field. 2.0 AUGUST IN REVIEW 8,421 calls for Security Assistance 26 Security Incidents 15 Emergency Incidents 2 offences against indivuals 20 offences against property 4 other/minor offences 6 medical emergencies 0 genuine fires 3 false alarms 5 calls from security for QPS to attend campus 8 calls from security for QAS to attend campus

An off duty security officer witnessed two males attempting to steal bikes from a bike cage at Gardens Point. When he challenged the unknown males he was struck in the face causing injury. The two males absconded from campus. The security officer required hospital treatment and police are investigating the incident. 2. A student reported that an unknown male was in the female toilets and was blocking her from leaving. She was able to get past the man and notified nearby staff and security. Security was unable to locate the male but the student was advised to report the matter to police and seek counselling, if required. 3. A number of glass panels in a building and external lift had been damaged at Kelvin Grove. Investigation police found a number of large marbles and sinkers in the area and believe they had been fired from an implement from a nearby unit block.
5 4. There was an increase in the thefts of bicycles at Gardens Point this month. Three unknown people were detained by police in relation to this. Security have provided police with CCTV to assist their investigation. 5. Throughout the month, 6 vagrants and 65 rollerblades/skateboarders were escorted from campus and 94 bicycle riders were asked to dismount and walk their bikes through the campus for pedestrian safety. Some excellent ideas to help us improve our procedures and some great learning by all the participants that will benefit all of the QUT community. Thanks to all involved. Unfortunately we saw a spike in the number of thefts and attempted thefts of bikes from Gardens Point in September. This was immediately recognised and the security team planned and organised some proactive operations with the objective to deter and detect the crime incidents. I am pleased to say that after some covert and overt patrolling and with inter-agency activity with the local police, some offenders have been arrested and the crime figures have fallen. The security team continue to monitor problem areas by use of physical presence and our CCTV system and welcome any feedback to where they would like to see more security. Our Central Monitoring Station (CMS) has had a successful relocation along with our patrol officers and are now located in Y Block, Level 2. You can of course still contact them on the normal numbers of and in an emergency. I again extend the offer of myself and/or my team coming out to your team meetings to present about the direction of security and our customer focused strategic aims. I have previously mentioned the use of SafeZone at QUT and I am pleased to say that the take up of the program has been excellent and the feedback has been that staff and students area really starting to see the benefit of it. If you or your team would like a demonstration or an introduction to SafeZone please contact us. Cheers,
