3 Lights and sensors may help deter a criminal. It is OK to not open the door for a solicitor. Keep your garage door closed even when you are home. Checklist Away From Home Do you arrange for a trusted neighbor or friend to pick up newspapers, packages and other deliveries? Do you request a Vaca on House Watch from the Southlake Police Department? Do you leave shades, blinds and ligh ng at normal levels for your home? 4 Checklist Windows Checklist Doors Do you have secondary locks or pins on all your windows? Do you keep your windows locked when they are shut? Are your garage windows covered with curtains or blinds? Do you have good secure locks on garage windows? Does your alarm system sensor for window breakage? Do doors fit ghtly within their door frame? Have you changed the locks or had them re keyed since the last owner / tenant? Do all locks work smoothly? Does the deadbolt extend sufficiently into the strike plate/ door jamb? Are all extra keys accounted for? Are your deadbolts secured with no less than 3 screws? Checklist Exterior & Landscape Are entry areas unobstructed by shrubbery and other decor? Are trees and shrubs trimmed to eliminate hiding places? Are lights installed around the perimeter of the home? Have you made sure low mounted ligh ng cannot be compromised by unscrewing a bulb? Are your side gates kept locked when not in use? Is your fence braced diagonally? Checklist Garage Doors Do you lock your door leading into the house from the garage? Do you manually lock the garage door when you will be gone for an extended period of me? Do you lock your car when it is parked in the driveway to prevent access to the garage? Remove, redact or white out your home address on insurance cards and vehicle service invoices. Program your GPS home as a store near by, not your actual home address.
