PIR OCCUPACY SWITCHES PIR occupancy es The DAERS range of passive infra-red occupancy es is designed for the automatic control of lighting, heating, ventilation or air conditioning s. The PIR will on the connected automatically when an area is occupied, and then it off automatically when the area has been vacant for a chosen duration. This has the benefits of reduced energy bills and automatic control. When being used to control lighting, the built-in photocell can be used to keep the lights off on bright days. PIR occupancy es are ideal for: Offices Factories Warehouses Schools eisure centres Hospitals Canteens Staff rooms Corridors and stairwells Rential homes Military accommodation Student accommodation Toilet blocks Changing rooms Plus many other uses PIR occupancy variants Special variants of products are available on request such as 24V (a.c. or d.c.) versions of our PIR occupancy es and photocell es, ideal for low voltage control systems. 12V variants can also be supplied. Some variants are available from stock for next day delivery. To special order we can also supply volt free outputs for mains, 24V or 12V supplies (including versions with gold relays). 6

PIR OCCUPACY SWITCHES PIR occupancy functions Each PIR occupancy in the DAERS range has a passive infra-red quad person detector (except COPD and BMPIR which have a passive infra-red dual person detector). This detects the movement of a warm body moving within its detection zone. When such a movement is detected the is ed on. There is a time lag function which is adjusted using a spindle on the of the product. The time lag is the time that must elapse with no movement detected before the PIR occupancy will off. Simple adjustment spindles There is a built-in, adjustable, photocell override which can be used to keep lights off when there is sufficient daylight available. The photocell can only be used in this way if the amount of natural daylight exceeds the level of the artificial lights. The photocell can be set to inactive when controlling heating, ventilation or air conditioning. The photocell is also adjusted by a spindle on the of the product. Each PIR occupancy contains a relay suitable for ing any type of, including fluorescent lights and fans. A few PIR occupancy es may be wired in parallel to control the same. However, there are minimum restrictions with the WAPIR model only (see page 21). The PIR occupancy es require a mains supply. Function demonstrated with the lighting in an office PIR occupancy brings lights on only when needed Enough daylight, Occupied ighting OFF Enough daylight, Unoccupied ighting OFF ight, Occupied ighting O ight, Unoccupied ighting OFF 7

PIR OCCUPACY SWITCHES PIR occupancy specifications PIR detector Passive infra-red quad person detector. Adjustable time lag Time lag adjustable in 9 steps (approximate values): 10 seconds 20 seconds 40 seconds 1.25 minutes 2.5 minutes 5 minutes 10 minutes 20 minutes 40 minutes Adjustable photocell "Inhibit on" photocell. The photocell will inhibit the lights from ing on when somebody enters an area with plenty of ambient light. However, if somebody is already occupying an area with the lights ed on, the lights will remain on while the area is occupied, regardless of any increase in the ambient light level. This is to avoid any nuisance ing off when somebody is in the middle of a task or meeting. Range lux (and photocell inactive), falling on the working plane. oading All models can up to 6 amps (1500W at 230VAC) of resistive, transformer or fluorescent lighting s, 2 amps (500W) of low energy lighting s (ED lamps and compact fluorescent) or up to 1 amp (250W) of fans or most metal halide lamps. For the WAPIR model there are some minimum requirements (details on page 21). Wiring in parallel A few PIR es can be wired in parallel to control the same. Start-up Mode When the mains supply is initially connected to the PIR occupancy it goes through its Start-up Mode. This means it es on for about 1 minute, then es off and enters its Operating Mode. If a manual wall is feeding the PIR occupancy (see wiring diagrams on appropriate product pages) then it will go through the Start-up Mode each time the wall is ed on (not applicable to WAPIR, see page 21). By wiring the manual wall in the alternative position, the supply to the PIR occupancy is uninterrupted and it remains in Operating Mode. It does not go through its Start-up Mode each time the wall is ed on. 8

RADIO REMOTE COTROS These products are used for the remote control ing or dimming of lighting or other s. The wire-free senders are available as hand held or wall mounted versions. A receiver or receiver dimmer is wired into the existing circuit to control the connected. The sender signals can pass through walls or ceilings so the receivers can be mounted out of sight. In a typical building the receivers can work at an approximate range of metres. In free air the range is approximately metres. The carrier frequency of the radio signals is 868MHz, which is CE Approved and icence Free. A EXAMPE BUIDIG Radio receivers Exterior receiver for out lights. Radio remote control senders and receivers Display cabinet lamps or standard desk lamps can be controlled via a plug-in dimmer receiver. Receiver es and receiver dimmers for the lighting circuits can be concealed behind a false ceiling. Wire-free radio senders 12 channel hand sender to control ceiling lights, spot lights and screen. For security reasons a caretaker can use another 12 channel hand sender to control all the lights in the building and the out security lights. All lights can also be controlled by wire-free wall mounted senders. 54

RADIO REMOTE COTROS Radio remote control functions Each button on each sender sends a unique coded signal (one of 4 billion codes). A simple set-up procedure enables any chosen receiver to respond to the signal from any chosen sender button. The sender button then controls the receiver (and its connected ). This simple procedure is repeated, creating links between various sender buttons and various receivers. As shown, almost any control set-up is possible; from a single room to an entire building. For the simplest set-up, one receiver can be controlled by one sender. Receiver Sender Any receiver can be programmed to respond to the unique coded signal from any sender button. Hence, a sender button can control any number of receivers simultaneously. Also a single receiver can be controlled by up to 15 sender buttons. These control combinations can be mixed and matched, making it possible to have almost any control set-up desired; from the simplest single room to an entire building. In the above control set-up, one button on the left hand sender controls the first receiver. A different button on the left hand sender controls the first and second receivers simultaneously, and so on. Typical penetration of radio signals The radio signals cannot pass through the entire length of walls. The radio signals achieve a range of approximately 30-50m in a building; m in free air. Brick walls: approx % penetration Timber framework with sandwich plasterboards: approx % penetration Reinforced concrete: approx % penetration Metal walls: approx. 0-10% penetration Conventional glass: approx % Insulating glass (with vaporised metal coat): approx % penetration Plastics: approx % penetration 55
