2 Products 14 Intumescent Fan Covers (FOR WINDOWS AND WALLS) Product 14 An intumescent grille unit available in two types: wall mounted and glass mounted. Fan cover units can be installed over VentAxia, Xpelair, or other makes of wall or window fans, giving fire and smoke protection to escape corridors and staircase fire escapes. PERFORMANCE Contains a front MG grille, giving up to 73 minutes integrity to BS476 Parts 20 & 22 (1987). Also tested at VNE to European Standard EN (2000). Can also be supplied with smoke shutters with 24V electro-magnet with automatic re-set solenoid, or fitted with a memory spring which closes at 60/70. 3 Products 33 CLVM Clipper (FOR TOILET VENTILATION FIRE PROTECTION) Where toilet ventilation fan units fit onto ceilings or walls, fire protection is needed where either PVC or flexible PVC pipes are used. CLVM allows the pipe to be slid down the unit. Having intumescent inside the top of the unit which seals off in a fire & intumescent round the base of the unit to seal onto the plasterboard holding the unit into position. PERFORMANCE Tested to BS476 Parts 20/21/22 (1987). BS-EN minutes fire protection FITTING INSTRUCTIONS Take unit and push into prepared hole in ceiling/wall. Fasten in position with supplied pins, 2 to side and 2 in the bottom holes. Slide the PVC or Flexible PVC pipe down the unit. Firoblok sleeves combat this deadly threat by halting the spread of fire. When fire strikes, the integrity of the ceiling could be compromised if an unprotected fitting is used. Firoblok sleeves are slim Intumescent fire seals that rapidly expand between the ceiling and the pipe or fitting to seal the hole and thus form a formidable fire and smoke barrier.

4 Product 34 Automatic Vent Grilles HOLE HEIGHT HOLE WIDTH NTJ grilles are for use in areas where both fire and smoke protection are required. There are four types of TJ grilles: A A TJ grille wired into a 24V fire alarm system that is held open by a 24V 125mA electromagnet. This type will close when the supply is cut out to the magnet by the Fire Alarm System to reset; you just put any key in the slot, push to one side to open the slots and make against the magnet. Type NTJ - Manual. B The same TJ Unit with a 24V 125mA electromagnet, but this also has a 5A solenoid. When the alarm is activated and supply to the NTJ Grille is cut out, so the grille closes, as Pictures 2 & 4. Once the fire alarm system is turned off and supply to the grille is made, the solenoid pulls the grille open, then switches off, letting the magnet take over. Type NTJ - Automatic. C The same NTJ can be made with a supply to a fire alarm system. The smoke shutter is held open by a thermal link, which, once 55 C reaches the grille, the link breaks, shutting the smoke and intumescent shutter. Type NTJ - Thermal Link. The same NTJ grille, but this grill has a memory spring, which once a heat of C reaches the grille, the memory spring expands, pushing the intumescent and smoke shutter closed. Type NTJ - Memory Spring. D The NTJ grille can be fitted into doors, walls and partitions. Cut a hole in the door or wall to the sizes as quoted in the chart above, as shown in picture 1. Other sizes can be made to suit your opening. Pictures 1 & 2 show vents open and closed (this is the section that fits into the opening, as in picture 3). Pictures 4 & 5 show the grille fitted into the aperture and screwed to the wall, door or partition. The picture also shows the slot where a key can be pushed into the open vents or nonautomatic NTJ grille (magnet only grille). Picture 6 shows the inside and outside of the intumescent plate which is screwed to the opposite side of the door, wall or partition, than the main unit. This unit need not be fitted if the main unit is fitted in ventilation ducting. The plates are open slotted as the opposite side, picture 7. Should you not require seeing through the grille, picture 8 shows a louvred nonviewing intumescent face-plate can be supplied. Other Options: If you have no fire alarm, no smoke detector circuit, or no load capacity, a 240V to 24V unit can be supplied. This also has a circuit to a smoke detector and a pair of normally open or normally closed contacts, to connect to the existing fire alarm system. 5 Product 35 Intumescent MG & MGL Grilles Tested up to 71 minutes Integrity & 54 minutes Insulation These intumescent slotted (MG) or louvred (MGL) grilles give from 30 minutes to 71 minutes integrity in a fire. The grilles are made from 20SWG metal and consist of a front plate with slots (MG) or louvres (MGL) and a slotted back plate which holds the protective intumescent material. The door etc. front plate can be finished in black, brown, white, stainless steel, or polished brass, and BS/RAL colours can be made to order. It has 5mm returns into which the intumescent back plate is located. For 60 minutes protection on a door or wall, two grilles would be required (one each side) as it is not certain which side the fire will attack from (order reference MG/D for slotted or MGL/D for louvred). For 30/60 minutes protection on the risk side only (the room side of a door or wall) use one grille on the risk side and one plain front plate on the other side (order reference MG/S for slotted or MGL/S for louvred). For ceilings, ducting, etc requiring one hour of fire protection, use MG/S (slotted) or MGL/S (louvred). In a fire, the intumescent material will expand to fill the openings in approximately 48 seconds. No smoke or toxic fumes are emitted by this product. If this product is to be used in operating theatres or other sterile or food preparation areas, the intumescent material in the grilles can be supplied fully sealed. 7 Product 36 Intumescent Block Grilles NEW BG-GRILLE The new elegantly designed BG grill Single or double grille face options Combined with a powerful intumescent section, that fits into the door aperture ORIGINAL BG-GRILLE A slim block-type intumescent grille, giving an excellent 90% free ventilation area. The openings would be sealed off in under one minute when attacked by fire. Can be made as shallow as 15mm deep to special order. Standard depth 38mm. These grilles are used in ceilings, doors, walls, and ventilation ducting. PERFORMANCE This product underwent a fire resistance test employing the general procedures and criteria of: BS476 Part 22 (1987), achieving an integrity of 240 minutes. Also tested at VNE to European Standard EN (2000).

8 INTUMESCENT BLOCK GRILLES (BG) Product 36 Tested to BS476 Parts 20/22 (1987) for up to 4 hours integrity and insulation. The block grille gives up to 90% free ventilation area The intumescent block grille consists of a zintec metal frame with foil-covered multi-layered intumescent material included in the frame. The foil resists static electricity and the build-up of dust and grease that would otherwise close up the vents. The opening is faced with a zinc-plated mesh. When the grille is attacked by fire, it will not give off any toxic fumes and seals completely in approximately one minute, when its temperature has reached 120 C. The block grille can be fitted directly into ceilings, doors, partitions, ventilation ducting, and walls. Any type of grille front can be used with this product: aluminium, plastic, steel, etc; and front plates can be supplied. Standard block grilles are made 38mm deep, but they can also be made to your requirements just state the depth (A), width (B), and height (C) required (see diagram below left). They can also be made with fixing lugs for ceilings or cavity walls. 9 Product 89 Soffit Board Intumescent Ventilators Essential for Loft Conversions Stops Flame Penetration Intumescent metal ventilation grilles to fit new or to replace plastic ventilation grilles, designed to prevent external flames and hot gases from entering the roof space and spreading fire. Soffit board ventilators are circular or rectangular grilles containing intumescent material that seals the vent openings in the event of a fire, to protect the roof space from flames and hot gases that may enter from broken or open windows etc below the soffit board. Otherwise, flames could burn through plastic soffit vents and enter the roof space, catching the roof felt alight and spreading the fire to loft rooms in use as bedrooms or play rooms. This product is absolutely essential in loft conversions and for use over windows in the dining room, kitchen, and lounge areas. PERFORMANCE This product underwent a fire resistance test employing the general principles and criteria of BS476 Part 22 (1987), achieving an integrity of 66 minutes. 10 Product 110 Intumescent Flexible Wraps and Sleeves for Ducting Advantages l Simple installation l Offers a flush finish to the wall/floor surface l Supports existing insulation l Can be cut to size to suit cavity/wall thickness l Moisture resistant l Protects pipes from corrosion Product 110 Firoblok sleeves are designed to protect cables and metal/plastic pipes and ventilation trunking passing through fire-rated ceilings, floors, o r w alls m ade from b lock, b rick, or concrete, and hollow plasterboard floors a nd walls. They are flexible, allowing contraction and expansion of water pipes, and give protection from corrosion caused by close contact with cement, cement blocks, plaster, and other corrosive building materials. A silver-coloured reinforced covering contains the intumescent material so that it expands inwards and crushes into melting PVC pipes, trunking, ducts, etc in the heat of a fire. They also absorb heat from fire and help prevent metal pipes, services, and armoured cables from overheating. The sleeves are supplied in 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, or 500mm lengths. They can be easily cut with a sharp knife and they should be installed level with the surrounding ceiling, floor, or wall. In the case of a fire, t he i ntumescent m aterial will expand, sealing the gap between the cable or pipe and its surrounding ceiling or wall. USE For services passing through fire-rated c eilings and walls (especially where contraction and expansion allowance is required, e.g. water/gas pipes). Also for use in brick, block, concrete, and hollow floors or walls. PERFORMANCE This product underwent a fire resistance test employing the general procedures and criteria of BS476 Part 22 (1987), achieving an integrity of 130 minutes in solid walls, 67 minutes in hollow walls, and 4 hours in concrete/ block ceilings/walls. Also tested to EN (2005), EN (2000), and EN (2004).

11 Products 133/134 Acoustic/Fireproof Ventilation Grille Product 133 AVG/F ACOUSTIC/FIREPROOF VENT. GRILLE The AVG/F fireproof ventilation grille consists of two parts (one for each side of the opening) and the internal cavity of both sections is filled with micro-acoustic material, with intumescent strips on the two long sides of the risk side opening to provide fire resistance properties. The grille is 25mm deep and in two sizes (200x200mm and 400x200mm). Various finishes are available. The ventilation area (m²) is about 0.4 x (slot length in metres). The grille can be used on partition walls and doors, to prevent fire passing from one room to another. To accommodate the grille, the ventilation aperture must be at least 10mm larger than the height between the upper and lower opposing slot limits (the slots should be vertically opposite each other when fitted). PERFORMANCE Tested to European Standards and approved in accordance with the general principles of NEN6069, offering up to 60 minutes of fire protection plus sound absorption. Product 134 AVG ACOUSTIC VENT. GRILLE The new AVG acoustic vent grille contains micro-acoustic material to reduce the passage of sound from one room to another. It is available in a range of sizes and finishes (including anodised or natural aluminium). It is made from extruded aluminium profiles and consists of two sections with a 35mm wide edge. Both sections have U-shaped profiles containing micro-acoustic material offering sound absorption properties, and the inside edges of the grille are covered with acoustic foam. The grilles can be produced in lengths up to 1500mm. Owing to the fixed profile system, the profile/gap interval must be a multiple of 85mm up to a maximum 935mm (from 1 to 11 vanes). The area of ventilation available is about 29% of the total grille plate area. The grille can be easily mounted with screws onto a door or wall. PERFORMANCE Maximum sound absorption at a minimal air-resistance (20 Pa) is achieved at an air speed no greater than 1.9m/s, calculated on the open passage of the grille, with measurement of the sound insulation according to world standard ISO140-3 (1995).

When open or closed the multi directional intumescent seals up the opening giving 1 hour fire protection. All grilles tested to BS476 Part HMG designed to fit into head reveals on metal cased window (HMG/C). Also to fit into windows such as on flats on escape corridors, bathroom and kitchen windows (HMG/W). Can be made to fit into UPVC window frames. Cut into doors where gas boilers are fitted. Many high rise modular flats have been built with cavities left open to ventilate rooms with vents in ceilings or reveals in windows. This is not only a smoke and fire hazard, but usually the grilles are not fire rated. This happened in London so a hit and miss intumescent grille ( HMG ) was made that should the grille be closed or left open in a fire it would seal up giving 1 hour fire protection. HMG/C Suitable for any ceiling ventilation in any room. HMG/W Ideal for bathroom and kitchen windows.
