10 Application Notes For those installations that are upgrading to the C Code Distributor from versions B or earlier, the following list highlights the changes between these versions. There are seven (7) dome-stored presets for the legacy domes: Speed (Unicard), Speed (Duo- Card), Speed Ultra 1, and Speed Ultra 2. Previously, there had been (16) host-stored presets. There are sixty (60) dome-stored presets for the newer domes: Speed Ultra 5 (ver. 3.07), Speed Ultra 6, Speed Ultra 7, Speed Ultra 7e, Optima, and Optima LT (up from (16) host-stored presets). Proportional speed control for simplex RS-422 now supported. Simplex was not previously supported, and full-duplex was required. 64 in each bank of 99 cameras is now available. This camera address had been previously reserved for host broadcasting. The legacy Mini is not fully supported. Installation The universal cabinet of the C Code Distributor may be surface or rack mounted in any convenient location with adequate ventilation. Rack Mounting As shipped, with the mounting ears flush with the front panel, the C Code Distributor can be mounted into the front of a standard 19-inch rack. The ears of the C Code Distributor can be removed and reinstalled such that they are flush with the rear panel. This allows the C to be mounted to the rear of a rack that is equipped with mounting channels. For proper ventilation allow at least three feet (1m) from the rear of the racks to any wall, and one EIA rack height, 1.75 inches (4.5cm), between units in a rack. Wall Mounting The Code Distributor can be mounted to the wall by reinstalling the ears perpendicular to the side of the unit. The unit can be installed with either the bottom or the top cover facing the wall and the front or the rear panel facing upwards. 13 Acknowledge Window Settings In order to accommodate a system with slow dome acknowledgement response times, S5 DIP switch positions 7 and 8 are used to set the time window in which an acknowledgement message is expected (see Table 3). Table 3 S5 Acknowledge Window Settings Window Time Switch Position ms* Off Off 50 ms On Off 75 ms Off On 100 ms On On * This is the acknowledgement response time used by the older versions of the AD2083. Also note that setting changes requires cycling of power to the unit. Alarm Contacts and Type Setup The S6 DIP switch is used for selecting the number of alarm switch contacts that can be configured for each dome. This switch also selects the dome type for each of the four groups of connectors. These switch positions must be set to OFF. Table 4 shows the S6 switch position settings for these selections. Note Each Speed, Speed Ultra, and Speed Optima accepts a maximum of 4 alarm contacts. The Speed LT does not accept any (zero) alarm contacts. 14 Connections Interface Connectors Eight 12-pin connectors on the rear of the C Code Distributor panel are used for transmitting and receiving codes with domes and J-boxes. The transmit (T) and receive (R) signal positions are labeled on each connector. Each connector is supplied with a mating screw terminal connector (see Figure 4). Simplex only requires connection to transmit. Figure 4 Typical Mating Screw Connector Control Code Connector The upper right connector on the rear of the C Code Distributor is a 12-pin connector. This is used to receive Control Code signals from 1650 or 2150 switcher units (B, W, and S lines) and to provide access to an internal Form C alarm relay. When the C receives an alarm from any Speed, the internal alarm relay closes. This relay can be used for turning accessories (VCR, etc.) on or off via its Normally Open (NO) or Normally Closed (NC) terminals. The mating screw terminal connector is shown below (see Figure 5). Figure 5 Control Code Mating Connector Connections on the above 12-pin connectors are easily made by inserting signal and ground wires into the slots of the Pin1 mating connectors and tightening the hold down screws. When all wires have been connected, insert the 12-pin mating connectors into the rear panel. 6
15 Data Line Connectors Two DATA LINE BNC connectors are provided on the rear panel, labeled IN and OUT. The IN is used to receive control codes from the 1995 or the 1996/1024 CPU of the 2050 systems. The OUT is a loop through connection. If this device is the final device in a daisy chain, the BNC must be terminated in 75 ohms. Use RG-59U video cable for all connections. Note When 1995 or 2050/1024 systems with existing B/W/S Control Code interfaces are used, they can be connected to the C Control Code Connector, as shown in Figure 5. RS-232 Connectors Two RS-232 connectors on the rear panel, labeled INPUT and OUTPUT, are provided for alarm interface connections. The output port is for connection to the switcher/control system alarm input ports or for cascading to another C unit's input port or a 2096 Alarm Interface unit. The baud rate is set for these ports as shown in Table 2. The RS-232 connectors are 8-pin modular type RJ-45 connectors. The pin-out definitions for the two connectors are shown in Table 5. Table 5 RS-232 Connectors Pin Definitions Pin INPUT OUTPUT Terminal Block 2 Shield Shield GND 4 XMT XMT RCD 5 RCD RCD XMT 7 GND GND Shield Remaining Pins - No Connection The C connects to switching systems with a modular cable , when distances between the units are no further than 7 feet apart. Note The pin definitions as listed require modular cable , or similar (that is, a cable that inverts the connections). For connection to switchers where the distances exceed 7 feet, a modular cable with a wall-mount 8-pin Terminal Block, Figure 6, is provided for plug-in to the rear panel connectors. The pin definitions for this block are the same as in Table 5. See Appendix for typical connections. Figure 6 8-pin Terminal Block 7
16 Operation Power Sources DO NOT CONNECT THE EQUIPMENT TO A POWER SOURCE UNTIL READY TO "POWER UP''. Make all connections to the C code input and relay connections and set the DIP switches prior to power up. The C Code Distributor does not contain an On/Off Switch. The socket outlet shall be located near the equipment and shall be readily accessible. The 120 V units are supplied with a pendant 3-wire cord and plug for mating to the primary source outlet. The 230 V units are supplied with a Euro style IEC 320 type inlet. A suitable detachable cord should be connected between the IEC 320 inlet and the power source. The cord should be connected between the IEC 320 inlet and the power source. The cord should conform to all national and local use code requirements. A green POWER LED indicator located on the rear panel illuminates when power is applied. Code Distributors are available in two models, depending on the power source to be used: C 120VAC, 50/60 Hz C-1 230VAC, 50/60 Hz The C unit has fuse power protection. The fuse sizes for replacement are: C 120V -250V, SB, 0.3 A, 5 x 20mm C-1 230V -250V, T, 125 ma, 5 x 20mm Operating Indicators When the unit is receiving valid code, the green CODE LED, on the rear panel, is illuminated. The LED stays lit for 5 seconds after code is removed. If this LED does not light, a problem in the unit or its interconnection may be indicated. If an alarm input is activated, the green ALARM LED illuminates, and the alarm relay closes. The ALARM LED remains illuminated and the alarm relay remains closed for 10 seconds after the alarm input is removed. Controlling Receiver Features The C supports the transmitted codes for all Speed LT, Speed, Speed Ultra, Speed Optima, and Speed Optima LT models. This includes full Pan, Tilt and Lens control, 60 presets per receiver, and 4 special Console to commands per Speed. The special Console to commands are: Reset Iris, Increase V-Phase Delay, Decrease V-Phase delay, and Reset. Pattern programming features of the domes are also provided. The C also supports alarm contacts. The American Dynamics Start Alarm and Stop Alarm commands are transmitted via the RS232 output port. The alarm contact number is based on the American Dynamics real camera address and the number of alarms per dome selected. When an alarm is received, an internal relay closes and the green alarm LED illuminates. The alarm reading is an asynchronous operation, working on a firstin first-out basis. 8
