(a) That ertain doument being titled the International Mehanial Code, 2006 Edition, first printing, as published by the International Code Counil, In., 4051 West Flossmoor Road, Country Club Hills, Illinois , is hereby adopted by referene as if fully set out in this rule save and exept those revisions made in this rule. Amend Chapter 1 by deleting it in its entirety and substituting to read as follows: Title; Availability. This rule shall be known as the Indiana Mehanial Code, 2008 edition and shall be published, exept inorporated douments, by the Department of Homeland Seurity for general distribution and use under that title. Wherever the term "this ode" is used throughout this rule, it shall mean the Indiana Mehanial Code, 2007 edition Sope and Purpose. (a) The sope and purpose of this ode is to establish the minimum requirements for the following: 1. Constrution, addition, alteration, eretion, or assembly of any part of a Class 1 struture at the site where the struture will be used. 2. Installation of any part of the permanent heating, ventilating, air onditioning, eletrial, plumbing, sanitary, emergeny detetion, emergeny ommuniation, or fire or explosion suppression systems for a Class 1 struture at the site where it will be used. 3. Work undertaken to alter, remodel, rehabilitate, or add to any part of a Class 1 struture. 4. Safeguarding life or property from the hazards of fire and explosion for Class 1 strutures. 5. Fabriation of any part of a Class 1 industrialized building system for installation, assembly, or use at another site, exept mobile strutures. 6. Work undertaken to reloate any part of a Class 1 struture, exept a mobile struture. 7. Assembly of a Class 1 industrialized building system that is not overed by subdivision (5), exept mobile strutures. (b) Detahed one and two family dwellings and townhouses not more than three stories high and their aessory strutures shall omply with the Indiana Residential Code, 675 IAC Intent. The intent of this ode is to presribe maintenane, new onstrution requirements, and operational rules for the safeguarding to a reasonable degree of life and property from the hazards of fire or explosion arising from the storage, handling, or use of substanes, materials, and devies Referened Codes and Standards. The odes and standards referened in this ode shall be those that are listed in Chapter 15, and suh odes and standards shall be onsidered part of the requirements of this ode to the presribed extent of eah suh referene. Where differenes our between the provisions of Chapter 15 and the standards diretly adopted by the Commission, the standards adopted by the Commission shall govern Appendies and Standards. Provisions in the appendies are not enforeable unless speifially adopted. The odes and standards referened in this ode shall be onsidered part of the requirements of this ode to the presribed extent of eah suh referene. Where differenes our between provisions of this ode and referened odes and standards, the provisions of this ode shall apply. Exeption: Where enforement of a ode provision would violate the onditions of the listing, labeling, or

3 Indiana Mehanial Code Amendments manufaturer's installation instrutions of the equipment or appliane, the onditions of the listing, labeling, or manufaturer's instrutions shall apply Appeals and Interpretations. Appeals from orders issued by the Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission or the Division of Fire and Building Safety are governed by IC and IC Appeals from orders by a loal unit of government are governed by IC and loal ordinane. Upon the written request of an interested person who has a dispute with a ounty or muniipal government onerning a building rule, the building law ompliane offier may issue a written interpretation of a building law. The written interpretation as issued under IC binds the interested person and the ounty or muniipality with whom the interested person has the dispute until overruled in a proeeding under IC A written interpretation of a building law binds all ounties and muniipalities if the offie of the state building ommissioner publishes the written interpretation of the building law in the Indiana Register under IC (b) Plans. Plans shall be submitted for Class 1 strutures as required by the General Administrative Rules (675 IAC 12) and the rules for Industrialized Building Systems (675 IAC 15) Existing Constrution. For existing Class 1 strutures, see the General Administrative Rules (675 IAC 12) and loal ordinane Additions and Alterations. Additions and alterations to any Class 1 struture shall onform to that required of a new struture without requiring the existing struture to omply with all the requirements of this ode. Additions or alterations shall not ause an existing struture to beome unsafe (see the General Administrative Rules (675 IAC 12-4)) Alternate Materials, Methods, and Equipment. Alternate materials, methods, equipment, and design shall be as required by the General Administrative Rules (675 IAC ) and the rules for Industrialized Building Systems (675 IAC 15). In Chapter 2, make the following hanges: (1) Delete the text of Setion in its entirety and substitute as follows: Where terms are not defined in this ode and are defined in the Indiana Building Code (675 IAC 13), Indiana Eletrial Code (675 IAC 17), Indiana Fire Code (675 IAC 22), Indiana Fuel Gas Code (675 IAC 25), or Indiana Plumbing Code (675 IAC 16), suh terms shall have the meanings asribed to them as in those odes. (2) Insert Setion to read as follows: Terms defined in other odes. ICC ELECTRICAL CODE refers to the INDIANA ELECTRICAL CODE (675 IAC 17). INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE refers to the INDIANA BUILDING CODE (675 IAC 13). INTERNATIONAL ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE refers to the INDIANA ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE (675 IAC 19). INTERNATIONAL FIRE CODE refers to the INDIANA FIRE CODE (675 IAC 22). INTERNATIONAL FUEL GAS CODE refers to the INDIANA FUEL GAS CODE (675 IAC 25). INTERNATIONAL PLUMBING CODE refers to the INDIANA PLUMBING CODE (675 IAC 16). (3) Amend the definition of APPLIANCE, EXISTING to read as follows: APPLIANCE, EXISTING. Any appliane regulated by this ode whih was legally installed prior to the effetive date of this ode. (4) Amend the definition of APPROVED to read as follows: APPROVED. As to materials, equipment, design, and types of onstrution, aeptane by the ode offiial by one (1) of the following methods: (1) Investigation or tests onduted by reognized authorities; or (2) Investigation or tests onduted by tehnial or sientifi organizations; or (3) Aepted priniples. The investigation, tests, or priniples shall establish that the materials, equipment, and types of onstrution are safe for the intended purpose.

(7) Amend the definition of CODE OFFICIAL to read as follows: CODE OFFICIAL means the Division of Fire and Building Safety; the loal building offiial as authorized under IC and loal ordinane; or the fire department as authorized under IC (8) Delete the definition of COMMERCIAL COOKING APPLIANCES and substitute to read as follows: COMMERCIAL COOKING APPLIANCES. Commerial and residential applianes used for heating or ooking food that produes grease, grease-laden vapors, steam, fumes, smoke, or odors that are required to be removed through a Type I or Type II exhaust ventilation system. Suh applianes inlude: deep fat fryers; upright broilers; griddles; broilers; steam-jaketed kettles; hot-top ranges; under-fired broilers (har broilers); ovens; barbeues; rotisseries; and similar applianes. (9) Insert the definition for COMMISSION to read as follows: COMMISSION is the Indiana Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission as set forth at IC (10) Delete the definition of COMPENSATING HOODS. (11) Amend the definition of CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS to read as follows: CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS. Douments required to obtain a design release in aordane with the General Administrative Rules (675 IAC 12-6) and the rules for Industrialized Building Systems (675 IAC 15). (12) Insert the definition for DIVISION OF FIRE AND BUILDING SAFETY to read as follows: DIVISION OF FIRE AND BUILDING SAFETY means the Division of Fire and Building Safety of the Indiana Department of Homeland Seurity reated pursuant to IC (13) Amend the definition of DWELLING UNIT to read as follows: DWELLING UNIT is any building or portion thereof whih ontains living failities, inluding provisions for sleeping, eating, ooking, and sanitation, as required by this ode, for not more than one (1) family, or ongregate resident for sixteen (16) or fewer persons. (14) Insert the definition for ELECTRICAL CODE to read as follows: ELECTRICAL CODE means the Indiana Eletrial Code in effet in Indiana at the time of onstrution, remodeling, alteration, addition, or repair of the struture. (15) Amend the definition of EQUIPMENT, EXISTING to read as follows: EQUIPMENT, EXISTING. Any equipment regulated by this ode whih was legally installed prior to the effetive date of this ode. (16) Insert the definition for FIRE CODE to read as follows: FIRE CODE means the Indiana Fire Code. (17) Insert the definition for FIRE PREVENTION CODE to read as follows: FIRE PREVENTION CODE. Refer to the INDIANA BUILDING CODE (675 IAC 13) and the INDIANA FIRE CODE (675 IAC 22). (18) Insert the definition for INDIANA BUILDING CODE to read as follows: INDIANA BUILDING CODE means the rules adopted at 675 IAC 13 in effet in Indiana at the time of onstrution, remodeling, alteration, addition, or repair of the struture. (19) Insert the definition for INDIANA ELECTRICAL CODE to read as follows: INDIANA ELECTRICAL CODE means the rules adopted at 675 IAC 17 in effet in Indiana at the time of onstrution, remodeling, alteration, addition, or repair of the struture. (20) Insert the definition for INDIANA ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE to read as follows: INDIANA ENERGY CONSERVATION CODE means the rules adopted at 675 IAC 19 in effet in Indiana at the time of onstrution, remodeling, alteration, addition, or repair of the struture. (21) Insert the definition for INDIANA FIRE CODE to read as follows: INDIANA FIRE CODE means the rules adopted at 675 IAC 22 in effet in Indiana at the time of inspetion by the ode offiial or, with respet to onstrution required to be filed under 675 IAC 12-6, 675 IAC 22 in effet at the time of onstrution, remodeling, alteration, addition, or repair of the struture. (22) Insert the definition for INDIANA FUEL GAS CODE to read as follows: INDIANA FUEL GAS CODE means the rules adopted at 675 IAC 25 in effet in Indiana at the time of onstrution, remodeling, alteration, addition, or repair of the struture. (23) Insert the definition for INDIANA PLUMBING CODE to read as follows: INDIANA PLUMBING CODE means the rules adopted at 675 IAC 16 (or the appliable rules of the predeessor to the ommission) in effet in Indiana at the time of onstrution, remodeling, alteration, addition, or repair of the

5 Indiana Mehanial Code Amendments struture. (24) Insert the definition for INSPECTION AUTHORITY to read as follows: INSPECTION AUTHORITY. See CODE OFFICIAL. (25) Amend the definition for LABELED to read as follows: LABELED means equipment or materials to whih has been attahed a label, symbol, or other identifying mark of an organization engaged in produt evaluation, that maintains periodi inspetion of prodution of labeled equipment or materials, and by whose labeling the manufaturer indiates ompliane with appropriate standards or performane in a speified manner. (26) Amend the definition for LIGHT-DUTY COOKING APPLIANCE to read as follows: LIGHT-DUTY COOKING APPLIANCE. Light-duty ooking applianes inlude gas and eletri ovens (inluding standard, bake, roasting, revolving, retherm, onvetion, ombination onvetion/steamer, onveyor, dek or dek-style pizza, and pastry), eletri and gas steam-jaketed kettles, eletri and gas pasta ookers, eletri and gas ompartment steamers (both pressure and atmospheri), and eletri and gas heesemelters. (27) Amend the definition for LISTED to read as follows: LISTED means equipment or materials inluded in a list published by an organization engaged in produt evaluation, that maintains periodi inspetion of prodution of listed equipment or materials, and whose listing states either that the equipment or material meets appropriate standards or has been tested and found suitable for use in a speified manner. (28) Insert the definition for MECHANICAL CODE to read as follows: MECHANICAL CODE means the Indiana Mehanial Code. (29) Amend the definition for MECHANICAL JOINT to read as follows: MECHANICAL JOINT. A onnetion between pipes, fittings, or pipes and fittings, whih is neither srewed, aulked, threaded, soldered, solvent emented, brazed, nor welded. Also, a joint in whih ompression is applied along the enterline of the piees being joined. Some joints are part of a oupling, fitting, or adapter. These joints inlude both the press-type and push-fit joining system. (30) Amend the definition for MEDIUM-DUTY COOKING APPLIANCE to read as follows: MEDIUM- DUTY COOKING APPLIANCE. Medium-duty ooking applianes inlude eletri disrete element ranges (with or without oven), eletri and gas hot-top ranges, eletri and gas griddles, eletri and gas doublesided griddles, eletri and gas fryers (inluding open deep fat fryers, donut fryers, kettle fryers, and pressure fryers), eletri and gas onveyor pizza ovens, eletri and gas tilting skillets (braising pans), and eletri and gas rotisseries. (31) Insert the definition for NFPA 70 to read as follows: NFPA 70, National Eletrial Code means the Indiana Eletrial Code (675 IAC 17). (32) Amend the definition of OCCUPANCY to read as follows: OCCUPANCY CLASSIFICATION. Oupany lassifiation shall be as speified in the Building Code in effet at the time of onstrution, alteration, or hange of oupany. (33) Insert the definition for PLUMBING CODE to read as follows: PLUMBING CODE means the Indiana Plumbing Code. (34) Insert the definition for PUSH-FIT JOINTS to read as follows: PUSH-FIT JOINTS. A type of mehanial joint onsisting of elastometri seals and orrosion resistant tube grippers. Suh joints are permanent or removable depending on the design. (35) Insert the definition for QUALIFIED INDIVIDUAL to read as follows: QUALIFIED INDIVIDUAL is a person who has doumentation evidening that he/she suessfully ompleted instrution related to the equipment being installed, servied, or repaired, and has provided suh doumentation to the Code Offiial upon request. (36) Amend the definition of REGISTERED DESIGN PROFESSIONAL to read as follows: REGISTERED DESIGN PROFESSIONAL. An arhitet who is registered under IC 25-4 or professional engineer registered under IC If a registered design professional is not required by 675 IAC 12-6 or 675 IAC 15, then it means the owner. (a) In Setion 301.2, Energy utilization, delete "all strutures" and insert "all Class 1 strutures". (b) In Setion 301.4, Listed and labeled, delete "in aordane with Setion 105". () Delete Setion 301.5, Labeling. (d) In item 4 of Setion 301.6, Information, delete "approval" and insert "aeptane". (e) Delete Setion , Flood hazard, and substitute "See loal ordinane". (f) Delete Setion , Rodent proofing. (g) In Setion 303.5, insert ", water heaters" after "furnaes". (h) Amend Setion 304.1, General, to read as follows: Equipment and applianes shall be installed in aordane with the onditions of the listing, the manufaturer's installation instrutions, and this ode unless otherwise approved. (i) In Setion 304.5, delete "fueling" and insert "fuel". (j) In Setion 306.1, delete the entire text and substitute as follows: Aess for maintenane and replaement. Applianes shall be aessible for inspetion, servie, repair, and replaement applianes, venting systems or any other piping or duts not onneted to the appliane being inspeted, servied, repaired, or replaed. A level working spae at least 30 inhes deep and 30 inhes wide (762 mm by 762 mm) shall be provided in front of the ontrol side to servie an appliane. (k) In Setion 306.5, insert the following text at the end of the first paragraph: Where aess involves limbing over parapet walls, the height shall be measured to the top of the parapet wall. (l) In Setion 306.5, insert the following text at the end of item 6: Landing dimensions shall be not less than 18" and not less than the width of the ladder served. A guard rail shall be provided on all open sides of the landing. (m) In Setion , amend to read as follows: Sloped roofs. Where applianes, equipment, fans, or other omponents that require servie are installed on a roof having a slope of three units vertial in 12 units horizontal (25-perent slope) or greater and having an edge more than 30 inhes (762 mm) above grade at suh edge, a level platform shall be provided on eah side of the appliane or equipment to whih aess is required for servie, repair, or maintenane. The platform shall be not less than 30 inhes (762 mm) in any dimension and shall be provided with guards. The guards shall extend not less than 42 inhes (1,067 mm) above the platform, shall be onstruted so as to prevent the passage of a 21-inh-diameter (533 mm) sphere, and shall omply with the loading requirements for guards speified in the International Building Code. Aess shall not require walking on roofs having a slope greater than 4 units vertial in 12 units horizontal (33-perent slope). Where aess involves obstrutions greater than 30 inhes in height, suh obstrutions shall be provided with ladders installed in aordane with Setion or stairs installed in aordane with the requirements speified in the International Building Code in the path of travel to and from applianes, fans, or equipment requiring servie. (n) In Setion , insert the following text after the first sentene: Suh piping shall maintain a minimum horizontal slope in the diretion of disharge of not less than one-eighth unit vertial in 12 units horizontal (1-perent slope). (o) In Setion , insert the following text after the seond sentene: Joints and onnetions shall be made in aordane with the appliable provisions of Chapter 7 of the Indiana Plumbing Code (675 IAC 16) relative to the material type. (s) In Setion , amend text to read as follows: Water level monitoring devies. On downflow units and all other oils that have no seondary drain or provisions to install a seondary or auxiliary drain pan, a water-level monitoring devie shall be installed inside the primary drain pan. This devie shall shut off the equipment served in the event that the primary drain beomes restrited. Devies installed in the drain line shall not be permitted. (t) Insert Setion to read as follows: Appliane, equipment, and insulation in pans. Where applianes, equipment, or insulation are subjet to water damage when auxiliary drain pans fill, suh portions of the applianes, equipment, and insulation shall be installed above the flood level rim of the pan. Supports loated inside of the pan to support the appliane or equipment shall be water resistant and approved. (a) Delete Setion 401.6, Contaminant soures. (b) In Setion 401.1, amend to read as follows: Sope. This hapter shall govern the ventilation of spaes within a building intended to be oupied. Mehanial exhaust systems, inluding exhaust systems serving lothes dryers and ooking applianes; hazardous exhaust systems; dust, stok, and refuse onveyor systems; subslab soil exhaust systems; smoke ontrol systems; energy reover ventilation systems; and other systems speified in Setion 502 shall omply with Chapter 5. () In Setion , delete "The exhaust from a bathroom or kithen in" and insert "Environmental air exhausted from". (d) Delete Setion 406.1, General, and insert the following: Uninhabited spaes, suh as rawl spaes and attis, shall be provided with natural ventilation openings as required by the Indiana Building Code (675 IAC 13). (e) In Setion 406.1, delete "be automatially ontrolled to operate when the relative humidity in the spae served exeeds 60 perent" and insert "operate ontinuously". (a) In Setion , amend items 3 and 4 to read as follows: 3. Environmental air dut exhaust terminations shall omply with Setion Exeption: Exhaust from bathrooms and kithens in residential dwellings omplying with Setion For speifi systems see the following setions: 4.1 Clothes dryer exhaust, Setion 504.4; 4.2 Kithen hoods and other kithen exhaust equipment, Setions , 506.4, and 506.5; 4.3 Dust, stok, and refuse onveying systems, Setion 511.2; 4.4 Subslab soil exhaust systems, Setion 512.4; and 4.5 Smoke ontrol systems, Setion (b) In Setion , insert, after the last sentene in the exeption, "Where exhaust duts are installed in onealed loations, the developed length of the exhaust dut system shall be indiated by permanent labels or tags installed in an observable loation.".

Exhaust hood systems apable of exhausting in exess of 400 fm shall be provided with makeup air at a rate approximately equal to the exhaust air rate. Suh makeup air systems shall be equipped with a means of losure and shall be automatially ontrolled to start and operate simultaneously with the exhaust system. (e) Amend Setion exeption to read as follows: Exeption: Fatory-built ommerial kithen grease duts listed and labeled in aordane with UL 1978 and installed in aordane with Setion (f) Amend Setion exeption to read as follows: Exeption: Fatory-built ommerial kithen grease duts listed and labeled in aordane with UL 1978 and listed and labeled exhaust equipment installed in aordane with Setion (g) Delete Setion and substitute as follows: Grease dut enlosure. A grease dut serving a Type I hood that penetrates a eiling, wall, or floor shall be enlosed from the point of penetration to the outlet terminal. A dut shall penetrate exterior walls only at loations where unproteted openings are permitted by the International Building Code. The dut enlosure shall serve a single grease exhaust dut system and shall not ontain any other duts, piping, wiring, or systems. (h) Insert Setion as follows: Grease dut protetion. Where the surfae of the dut is ontinuously overed on all sides with a grease dut protetion system from the point at whih the dut penetrates a eiling, wall, or floor to the outlet terminal, suh grease dut protetion systems shall be a lassified and labeled material, system, method of onstrution, or produt speifially evaluated for suh purpose and approved by the ode offiial. Exeptions: 1. Prefabriated grease dut enlosure assemblies, whih inorporate protetion on all sides from the point at whih the dut penetrates a eiling, wall, or floor to the outlet terminal with a lassified and labeled prefabriated system speifially evaluated for suh purposes in aordane with UL Duts enlosed in aordane with the International Building Code requirements for shaft onstrution, provided suh dut enlosures are sealed around the dut at the point of penetration and vented to the outside of the building through the use of weather-proteted openings. Clearane from the dut to the interior surfae of enlosures of ombustible onstrution shall be not less than 18 inhes (457 mm). Clearane from the dut to the interior surfae of enlosures of nonombustible onstrution or gypsum wallboard attahed to nonombustible strutures shall be not less than 6 inhes (152 mm). (i) Insert Setion as follows: Grease dut penetrations. Dut penetrations shall be proteted with a through-penetration firestop system lassified in aordane with ASTM E814 and having an "F" and "T" rating equal to the fire-resistane rating of the assembly being penetrated. (j) Insert Setion as follows: Protetion of dut wrap systems. Exposed dut wrap systems shall be proteted where subjet to physial damage.
