2 VINES & CLIMBERS Clematis - Hardy Varieties Blue Bird Clematis Clematis macropetala Blue Bird Flowers: Light purplish-blue The semi-double, outward-facing flowers are produced for two months in early summer. Developed by F.L. Skinner. Blue Boy Clematis Clematis integrifolia Blueboy Flowers: Steel Blue Slightly nodding, 4-5 inch (10-12 cm) flowers are steel-blue in colour. The blooming time is from June to September. Clematis - Tender Varieties This single flowered clematis group is best located in a foundation planting. Full sun and long growing days provide ideal conditions for the clematis to survive and flourish. It is important to ensure that the roots are protected from the hot sun by the use of mulch. The flowers appear in early July and bloom until the first frost in September. Typically, the top growth of this clematis group is frozen in late fall and new growth will come the following spring from the buried dormant buds. The tender clematis requires well-drained soil, plenty of water, regular feeds of fertilizer and a trellis for support.
