He did so, and after several minutes he heard the watchman clomping down the stairs. The watchman unlocked first one gate, then another, shut down the alarm system, and finally made his way through the revolving door. "Well," he snarled at the hillbilly, "what do you want?" The hillbilly gave the watchman his best disarming smile. "I just want to know why you can't ring the bell for yourself?". What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything? - Vincent van Gogh The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. - Martin Luther King, Jr. The Rotary Club of The Entrance Page 4
5 A truck driver was driving along on the freeway. A sign comes up that reads "Low bridge ahead." Before he knows it the bridge is right ahead of him and he gets stuck under the bridge. Cars are backed up for miles. Finally, a police car comes up. The cop gets out of his car, walks around to the truck driver and says, "Got stuck, huh?" The truck driver replies, "No, I was delivering this bridge and ran out of petrol. One morning, a young boy realized his puppy, Riley, was sick. He and his mother took him to the vet. To the boys uttermost disappointment, the vet needed Riley to stay overnight. That night, as his mother tucked him in, the boy said to his mother, "Can I say a prayer for Riley?". "That would be very nice." said his mother lovingly. "Should I go directly to God?" said the boy, surprising his mother, "Or should I ask for someone in the pet department? A passenger train is creeping along, slowly. Finally it creaks to a halt. A passenger sees a conductor walking by outside. "What s going on?" she yells out the window. "Cow on the track!" replies the conductor. Ten minutes later, the train resumes its slow pace. Within five minutes, however, it stops again. The woman sees the same conductor walk again. She leans out the window and yells, "What happened? Did we catch up with the cow again?".
