40 40 kit + kaboodle tips and tricks measuring your space So now that you re inspired after looking through our latest kitchen ranges, it s time to start planning your own. The first step is understanding the space you have to work with, so you know how much you can fit in. Start by measuring your kitchen accurately, remembering to measure and mark. a The height of the room from the floor to the ceiling/bulkhead. b a b The length and width of the room wall to wall and/or wall to doorways (measure to the outside of the architrave). c The height from the floor to any windows to ensure that cabinets and worktops fit. d The location of any old or new light switches or power points. f c e b c b d e The location of existing service points such as plumbing and electricity, or any new points. f Any other permanent fixtures such as balustrades or pillars. choose your layout Once you know how much space you have to work with, you then need to choose your layout. It may be based on the kitchen you re replacing, or it may be a totally new design. Just remember to allow enough space in between worktops to allow for opening cabinet doors and traffic in the kitchen. Wherever possible, try to incorporate the working triangle. working triangle This is the distance between your hob, fridge and sink. The most effective work spaces allow 1200mm between each of these stations and minimises movement in the kitchen. U-shape kitchen The U-shape is most commonly suited to larger kitchen spaces and is the perfect layout for families who spend lots of time in the kitchen. L-shape kitchen The L-shape kitchen suits open plan living areas, smaller areas and long rooms. It also enables you to move freely between the various areas within the kitchen and gives you plenty of worktop working space. lley kitchen

41 kit + kaboodle tips and tricks 41 top planning tips do Think about what you like/dislike in your current kitchen. Think about what your kitchen will be used for (e.g. cooking and food preparation or entertaining). Consider how many people will be utilising the kitchen. For traffic areas and island worktops we recommend that you allow 1200mm from the worktop on the island to the opposite cabinet/appliance. Ensure the location of the sink bowl is centred over a suitable size cabinet. Consult your manufacturers specifications for appliances prior to installing your kitchen. Enjoy your new kitchen! don t Position cooking appliances under windows or near inward opening doors (especially gas units). Place your fridge and cooking appliances next to one another. Attempt to undertake gas, electrical or plumbing work yourself - all gas work must be carried out by a Gas Safe Registered gas engineer; all electrical work must use a Part P qualified electrician. Engage the services of a licensed plumber too. Position your rangehood any closer to your hob stove other than what s been advised in your appliance instruction manual refer to this document for correct distances. Forget your end panels - these are needed on either side of appliance cabinets and to cover the exposed side of cabinet runs. Forget to leave a minimum of 300mm clearance on either side of your cooktop to any larders or panels. L-shape island kitchen An island in this format is most suited to larger, more spacious kitchens. Additional cabinets and worktop work space also make this kitchen family friendly and an entertainers paradise. straight line kitchen The straight line kitchen is ideal for small and narrow kitchen areas, but can also comfortably accommodate larger kitchens. It s a simple kitchen design and is often the most inexpensive in relation to other kitchen layouts. galley kitchen The galley kitchen is a functional kitchen design that allows you to reach all areas of the kitchen with minimal walking distance. A galley kitchen is a modern and contemporary kitchen design and the choice of many chefs.

63 kit + kaboodle warranty information 63 kit kaboodle warranty information Homebase provide the following limited warranties to the original purchaser of kit + kaboodle kitchen products. 10 year warranty Homebase warrants that it will, at its option, repair or replace any cabinet carcass, hinges and drawers, handles, doors and panels or laminate worktops that suffer a failure due to a defect in the materials or manufacturing process within ten (10) years from the date of purchase. 5 year warranty Homebase warrants that it will, at its option, repair or replace any wire baskets and inserts, waste bins or timber worktops that suffer a failure due to a defect in the materials or manufacturing process within five (5) years from the date of purchase. the kit kaboodle lifetime advantage If you install your kit + kaboodle kitchen product in a house which is your primary residence and you own, Homebase will extend your warranty on your cabinets for as long as your kit + kaboodle product is installed in that house, and you continue to own and maintain that house as your primary residence.
