21 40 Tips and tricks Tips and tricks 41 Measure your kitchen Top planning tips So that we can show you an accurate design of your kitchen, all you need to do is measure and record the following details and bring them into store: Length, width and height of your room, along with size of windows and doors and where they are located. The location of switches, power points and plumbing. Any other features that stand out, like boilers, beams or uneven walls. Don t worry if the details aren t perfect, we can visit your home to check the measurements and offer design advice. Do Think about what you like/dislike in your current kitchen. Think about what your kitchen will be used for (e.g. cooking and food preparation or entertaining). Consider how many people will be utilising the kitchen. For traffic areas and island worktops we recommend that you allow 1200mm from the worktop on the island to the opposite cabinet/appliance. Ensure the location of the sink bowl is centred over a suitable size cabinet. Consult your manufacturers specifications for appliances prior to installing your kitchen. Enjoy your new kitchen! Don t Position cooking appliances under windows or near inward opening doors (especially gas units). Place your fridge and cooking appliances next to one another. Attempt to undertake gas, electrical or plumbing work yourself - all gas work must be carried out by a Gas Safe Registered gas engineer; all electrical work must use a Part P qualified electrician. Engage the services of a licensed plumber too. Position your rangehood any closer to your hob stove other than what s been advised in your appliance instruction manual refer to this document for correct distances. Forget your end panels - these are needed on either side of appliance cabinets and to cover the exposed side of cabinet runs. Forget to leave a minimum of 300mm clearance on either side of your cooktop to any larders or panels. Choose your layout When planning your new kitchen, it s worth thinking about your oven, sink and fridge and how you can easily move between them. Our experts will help you decide where to put appliances, but it s worth thinking about how you like spending time in your kitchen. This is the distance between your hob, fridge and sink. The most effective work spaces allow 1200mm between each of these stations and minimises movement in the kitchen. Working triangle U-shape kitchen The U-shape is most commonly suited to larger kitchen spaces and is the perfect layout for families who spend lots of time in the kitchen. L-shape kitchen The L-shape kitchen suits open plan living areas, smaller areas and long rooms. It also enables you to move freely between the various areas within the kitchen and gives you plenty of worktop working space. L-shape island kitchen An island in this format is most suited to larger, more spacious kitchens. Additional cabinets and worktop work space also make this kitchen family friendly and an entertainers paradise. Straight line kitchen The straight line kitchen is ideal for small and narrow kitchen areas, but can also comfortably accommodate larger kitchens. It s a simple kitchen design and is often the most inexpensive in relation to other kitchen layouts. Galley kitchen The galley kitchen is a functional kitchen design that allows you to reach all areas of the kitchen with minimal walking distance. A galley kitchen is a modern and contemporary kitchen design and the choice of many chefs.

Cabinets Start by working out how many cabinets you ll need to create your kitchen, then choose your parts and accessories. Worktops Parts and accessories Homebase worktops are available in a range of styles, colours and finishes, available in two thicknesses. Matching upstands and breakfast bars for most worktops are available separately. The next step is to work out how many hinges and drawers are needed for the cabinets you ve chosen. All functionality options are available separately, so you only order what you need. Standard hinges and drawers Our standard hinges are reliable, durable and suitable for use with any non-framed kitchen cabinet door. Our hinges open to 110 and have been tested to open and close 150,000 times to achieve Level H standards. Our standard drawers are 450mm deep, have metal sides and a 40kg load capacity - making them the perfect economical option. Hinge pack includes: 2 x standard hinges and 2 x slide on mounting plates. Blum soft close hinges These premium hinges close doors smoothly and quietly, and are suitable for use with standard non-framed kitchen cabinet doors. Hinge pack includes: 2 x soft close hinges and 2 x clip on mounting plates. This ensures that they have knowledge of our range and can demonstrate the skills and experience necessary to expertly install your kitchen, so it looks its best. Homebase check that all accredited installers are qualified and are compliant to current legislation including having public liability insurance, Gas Safe registration and an electrical governing body registration. For complete peace of mind, Homebase accredited installers offer a 12-month workmanship warranty. 12 MONTH WORKMANSHIP WARRANTY * Expert advice We know it s important to have a professional team working in your home. Homebase s accredited installers will do a full technical survey to ensure your design fits, complies with relevant safety and legislative requirements and can advise you on any possible improvements. Quality at a great price All Homebase accredited installers are independent. This means you pay the installer directly for their work and get the best price*. To help you plan your kitchen and budget for the project, your Homebase Team Member can give you an indicative estimate of the installation cost of the product purchased. * Contracts are between customers and installers and customers pay installers directly for their work. 10 year guarantee Homebase guarantees that it will, at its option, repair or replace any cabinet carcass, hinges and drawers, handles, doors and panels that suffer a failure due to a defect in the materials or manufacturing process within ten (10) years from the date of purchase. 5 year guarantee Homebase guarantees that it will, at its option, repair or replace any wire baskets and inserts, waste bins and timber or laminate worktops that suffer a failure due to a defect in the materials or manufacturing process within five (5) years from the date of purchase General terms for all guarantees To make a claim against this guarantee, you must contact Homebase during the applicable guarantee period: Guarantee Claims: HHGL Limited, Witan Gate House, Witan Gate, Milton Keynes, MK9 1BA Guarantees apply only to the original purchaser for products that are used for normal domestic use. The guarantees do not apply to products used for commercial purposes such as products installed in business premises or domestic premises connected with a business premises i.e. Holiday lets. To make a claim under the guarantee, you will also need to provide proof that the house in which the product is installed is your primary residence (e.g. utility bills or council rate notices). How Homebase will fulfil guarantee claims Homebase will honour all valid claims made under this guarantee by either repairing or replacing (at Homebase s option) the defective product. For claims under this manufacturers guarantee Homebase will not be responsible for removal, installation, reinstallation, set up or any other costs associated with a claim. Other rights The benefits given by this guarantee are additional to other rights and remedies that you may have under law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under United Kingdom and Irish Consumer law, your statutory rights remain unaffected.
