Chianti classico, part of the province of Florence, offers a unique landscape, with green, gentle hills covered with wide fields of vineyards and olive groves, small stone villages, characteristic parishes and countryside homes in stone. The centre of Chianti Classico is the town of Greve in Chianti, with its weekly market in the main square each Saturday morning and its Chianti Wine Festival on the 2nd weekend of September. Stroll the cobblestone streets of this classic hill town, ascending to the magnificent Piazza Grande (the main square) of Montepulciano. Bask in the sun in Piazza del Campo, arguably Italy's most beautiful square. Pisa's Leaning Tower has been marveled at for centuries, but it's only one of the city's allures Lucca's exquisite Duomo has an ornate façade strewn with colonettes and contains a haunting, beautifully sculpted tomb by Jacopo della Quercia. Make like the locals and stroll atop the ramparts that encircle Lucca's city centre. Visit Bolgheri and, if in the summer, swim in the unparalleled Argentario's sea. DO NOT MISS IN YOUR AREA Spend an evening in Pistoia's Piazza della Sala, if possible between Friday and Sunday, for an aperitif. Visit Montecatini Alto and stop by the Torre restaurant for a fantastic meal or in Maschere for an unforgettable pizza. Discover Leonardo da Vinci's town and museum. Chianti Classico lies between the larger cities of Florence and Siena; this is the land of the Gallo Nero, the black rooster.
