VISIONING PROCESS & MASTER PLAN ADAMS PARK THE CITY OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA CONTEXT Omaha Parks & Boulevards Surrounding Parks (11) Playgrounds 6 Basketball Courts 4 Ball Fields 6 Tennis Courts 10 Swimming Pools 1 Fishing Lakes 1 Golf Courses 1 Adams Park Playgrounds 1 (2X) Basketball Courts 2 (6X) Ball Fields 3 (6X) Tennis Courts 2 (2X) Adams Park is one of only four located on the Boulevard System
VISIONING PROCESS & MASTER PLAN ADAMS PARK THE CITY OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA NOMA PARK SYSTEM Utilize active recreation and fishing at Fontenelle Park Utilize pools and aquatic centers at Miller and Gallagher Parks Link to Fontenelle Park, Girls Inc., and Butler-Gast YMCA via a revitalized Creighton Boulevard Provide new connections on Binney Street, N. 36 th Street, and Lake Street. ASSUMPTIONS: Fontenelle Park retains active recreation and fishing New swimming/aquatic facilities are developed at Miller & Gallagher Parks
VISIONING PROCESS & MASTER PLAN ADAMS PARK THE CITY OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA CONSENSUS ISSUES 1. Adams Park appears to be highly underutilized with no identifiable daily user base. 2. Over 60% of Adams Park s perimeter boundary is located behind private buildings 3. Lack of street frontage result in negative perceptions of safety for local and neighborhood users. 4. Active recreation facilities are perceived as not serving the needs and desires of local residents. 5. Large portions of Adams Park are not accessible by existing pathways, particularly the northeast and eastern sections of the park. 6. There are no parking facilities in the northeast and eastern sections of the park 7. There is a lack of a significant recreational/ deep pool in North Omaha. 8. There are no picnic pavilions or high-quality family gathering spaces in Adams Park.
VISIONING PROCESS & MASTER PLAN ADAMS PARK THE CITY OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA VISION Building upon its striking landscape and location on Omaha s historic boulevard system, Adams Park will be recreated as a safe, vibrant, and signature part of Omaha s Park System, serving as a regional destination, a catalyst for continued neighborhood revitalization, and community identity and well-being.

VISIONING PROCESS & MASTER PLAN ADAMS PARK THE CITY OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA PUBLIC CHARRETTE 01: CONSENSUS FEEDBACK Expand and rehabilitate the existing community center; retain existing facilities; provide a kitchen, food and educational programs & facilities. Keep the community center and related facilities in the center of the park Provide lighted walking paths, bike paths, and high-quality picnic facilities A water park/aquatic center is very important to the community We want a water park! Expand the wetlands and Gabrielle Union Lake Create a multipurpose field with space for football fields and special events Option 3: Re_Vision is preferred DEPARTMENT OF PARKS & RECREATION FEEDBACK There is a recognized need for a deep water pool and aquatic center in North Omaha but at this time locating these facilities in Adams Park Requires further study Planned addition of a deep water swimming pool at Miller Park and a water slide at Gallagher Park are short-term solutions to address aquatic facilities There is a recognized need for football and other active recreation facilities in North Omaha but these facilities would be best located in another park (Fontenelle Park) Fishing will remain at Fontenelle Park Lake; there is no need to duplicate this facility at Adams Park Urban Farming & Community Gardening Education Center should be co-located with the Adams Park Community Center
