2 NSW Division Planning Institute Australia Nomination Statement of Anthony Newland I hereby submit this nomination statement to the NSW Division of the Planning Institute Australia to be considered for the role of NSW Divisional appointed National Board Director of the Institute. A little bit about myself. I live in Wagga Wagga, NSW and am married with two children aged 16 and 12. I graduated from the University of New England in 1991 with a Bachelor s degree in Urban and Regional Planning. I now operate a small but personal planning consultancy which services local government (comprehensive and single issue planning proposals and land use strategies, environmental studies, plans of management, independent development assessment and management services) and the private sector (development applications and planning proposals). I have been a member of the Institute since 2001 and have served in the roles of Treasurer and President of the NSW Division of the Institute. There are a number of attributes and experiences which I would bring to the role of the NSW Divisional National Board Director, as follows. Over 20 year s comprehensive planning experience in local government, State Government and the private sector, in metropolitan, regional and rural areas. A good understanding of planning and infrastructure provision in regional areas; A good understanding of the challenges and support needs of local government planners in metropolitan, regional and rural environments. A practical approach to resolving planning issues. A thorough working knowledge of the operations of the Institute at Divisional level and a good appreciation of the Institute management and responsibilities at National level. Familiarity of the role and corporate responsibilities of Board Director through a term as a Director of the Business Enterprise Centre in Wagga Wagga, and previous terms as Treasurer and President of the NSW Division of the Institute. A passion for and commitment to mentoring and assistance for Young Planners in this regard as a Board Director I would wish to specifically contribute to the Young Planners Network Committee, among others, and Finally a commitment to supporting and promoting the excellent work of the Institute, its management and its many volunteer professionals, without which the Institute would not be as successful as it is.
