2 Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the Microbiological Society of Korea (MSK), I cordially invite you to the MSK s 50th Anniversary International Symposium on Microbiology 2009 (The 50th Anniversary of MSK) that will be held on May 28-30, 2009 at the ShineVille Luxury Resort in Jeju Island, Korea. MSK was founded in 1959 and is one of the largest microbiological societies in Korea. The symposium will present and discuss cutting-edge research on basic and applied microbiology in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the MSK. The main topics are arranged into 19 categories, and there will be 4 excellent plenary lectures, 19 symposia and poster presentations as shown in detail in the enclosed scientific program. We live in an era of dramatic developments and progresses in science and technology. Microbiology is no exception, and it is essential that scientists keep close communications one another to share ideas and develop collaborative researches to stimulate the field even further. On this basis, it is my great pleasure to invite you to our symposium in Jeju Island in Korea which will provide you with rich academic as well as social environments. Jeju Island is not only a beloved vacation destination in Korea, but also is one of the most beautiful islands in East Asia with 368 secondary volcanoes and the Mt. Hallasan at its center. This semi-tropical island is just one-hour flight apart from the Incheon International Airport (Seoul), and 2.5 hours from Beijing and Tokyo. There are 9 direct international flights and 11 domestic flights currently that are operated approximately 118 times everyday. One of great advantages for travellers to visit Jeju is that the island offers a very flexible entry/departure policy, which allows visitors to stay without a visa for up to 30 days. Visa-free Entry to Jeju : 180 Countries All countries with only 11 exceptions; Afghanistan, Cuba, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Nigeria, Macedonia, Palestine, Sudan, and Syria (Visitors from 11 exceptional countries are required to apply for Visa.) 10 Transfer via Major Hub Airports Visitors from the countries not served by direct flights may travel to Jeju conveniently through major hub airports such as Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing and Shanghai. Transfer to Jeju at Gimpo Airport On arrival at Incheon International Airport, take an airport limousine bus to Gimpo Airport. It takes about 30 minutes and the fare is 6,000 Korean won (US 5$). The airport limousine bus runs everyday from 05:00 to 21:30 at 5 to 10 minute intervals. The national carriers Korea Air and Asiana Airlines operate at 15 to 20 minute intervals from 06:20 to 20:40. Flight time is about 50 minutes.
