It is recommended that rechargeable batteries be used to reduce this waste. Batteries can be returned to any participating retail outlet, where they will be collected and recycled. Retailers nearby include OPTUS Charlestown, Glendale and Kotara, Telstra-T Charlestown and Newcastle. Return any mobile phone handset, battery or accessory to the store. Everyday household batteries cannot be recycled at present. The batteries should be disposed of in your normal household bin. These include AA, AAA, C, D and 9V batteries. The disposal cost is normally included in the cost of testing. Cylinders must be empty and the valve must be removed. Alternatively, add sand or other absorbent material to tin. Dispose of solid waste product and tin in garbage bin. If paint is in good condition, offer the paint to schools or neighbours for use.
