3 What is ewaste?? -Electronic products that are at/near their end of life According to the Global Waste Recycling Market Outlook, 2018: Close to 48.2 million tons (96.4 Billion lbs.) of ewaste was generated in 2017, of which only 20 to 25 percent was documented to be collected and recycled. The remaining waste was either landfilled, disposed of unsafely, or illegally in lesser developed countries. Slide 3

4 What happens to ewaste when MRC collects for recycling? MRC may test electronics for R2 Ready for Reuse/Resale, or send to MRC s de-manufacturing facility where components (plastics, metals, glass) are separated and sent to be recycled/reused. Material is not sent to a landfill. 100% recycled/reused Slide 4

5 What is R2 Certification & Why is it Important? -R2 is the Leading Standard for Electronics Repair and Recycling The R2 Standard provides a common set of processes, safety measures, and documentations requirements for businesses that repair and recycle used electronics. R2 is rigorously and independently audited, emphasizing quality, safety, and transparency. 600 facilities are currently R2 certified in 21 countries, with more added every day. Slide 5

CRT Televisions(Cathode Ray Tube) [a.k.a Bubble or Tube TVs] Can contain between 4 to 22 lbs. of LEAD? *But why do they contain LEAD?! > To protect the user from X-Rays which may be produced from the electrons, accelerated by high voltage, traveling in the vacuum/funnel of the TV. 11 MRC Data Destruction Processes -Your data is secure with MRC Degauss: The process of totally erasing data by reducing or eliminating an unwanted magnetic field (data) stored on tape and disk media such as computer and laptop hard drives, disks, reels, cassettes and tapes. Shred: A mechanical device that physically destroys hard drives in such a way that the data they contain cannot be recovered. Wipe: This process renders all data on a hard drive or other media unreadable, or removes or eliminates data entirely. *MRC does this according to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST Guidelines for Media Sanitization), utilizing a three (3) pass DOD compliant wipe.
