2 Frequently Asked Questions Do I have to clean the plastic and metal containers that my lunch comes in? A light rinse is fine. Water is a valuable resource and our sorting process allows for minimal contamination. Do I have to remove lids from the containers? Like from plastic bottles or tubs? No, it is not necessary. Can we place bottles, cans, glass and white paper in the same container? We use different recycling collection containers to minimize the risk of contaminants and liquids. If the bottles are empty, they can be placed in the same container. Do I have to remove staples, rubber bands, or paper clips from paper? No, it is not necessary. Can I recycle Single-use coffee cups? If the coffee cup is paper/cardboard, with a wax lining inside (as most are) then it is not recyclable in the current industry. Styrofoam? At this time, we do not accept #6 PS plastics, known as polystyrene. It comes in two forms, expanded (fluffy and white) and rigid (clear) check the number on your container. Plastic Bags? Yes. Pizza Boxes? Yes. We would prefer the pizza boxes be kept clear of food particles. Laminated Envelopes? Yes, to include envelopes such as FedEx or UPS letter packaging. Post-it Notes? Yes. Envelopes with Plastic Windows? Yes. Paper Towels? Paper towels should not be included in the recycling containers. If your building offers a compost program, then paper towels can be placed in the compost bins. Electronics? It is illegal to dump electronic waste (e-waste) in single stream recycling/trash systems. However, Independent Recycling Services does offer an e-waste program for pickup and proper disposal of these items.

3 Green Office Tips Turn off the lights when you are leaving the room for 15 minutes or more, and utilize natural light. Turn off your computer and power strip when you leave for the day. Choose to utilize environmentally conscience vendors/products. Replace items with eco-friendly options, as they wear and tear. Items such as computers, printers, lightbulbs, etc. Purchase office supplies and furniture made from recycled materials. Bring your own reusable utensils, for those meals you eat at the office, and reusable water bottles and coffee cups/mugs. Start a sustainability club. Hold an eco-friendly challenge during Earth Week. Carpool, bike, or take transit to work, when possible. Think before you print: Could this be read or stored online instead?

LIGHT BULB RECYCLING We will assess your light bulb waste and recommend collection containers best suited to your needs. BATTERY RECYCLING Avoid contamination of our water and air by throwing out used batteries. We can collect your batteries safely for recycling PRINTER CARTRIDGE RECYCLING A building wide program that offers the convenient and cost effective disposal of used printer cartridges. TECHNOTRASH RECYCLING Through on going service we can help collect your technotrash for recycling. DOCUMENT DESTRUCTION Customized, secure, and economical programs for the destruction and recycling of confidential materials. COMPOSTING Composting programs are now available. 10 2018: Be Green & Keep It Clean WHAT CAN YOUR PROPERTY DO TO IMPROVE AND ACHIEVE YOUR RECYCLING GOAL(S)? 1. Meet with Independent Recycling Services and outline your 2018 plan. 2. Schedule lunch and learn seminars to help educate tenants on your recycling program. 3. Schedule a meeting between cleaning supervisor/staff, and Independent Recycling Services, to review the collection process in the building. 4. Initiate additional recycling programs including (if not already in place): a. E-Waste b. Batteries c. Fluorescent bulbs d. Ballast e. Cell phone drop off collection containers f. Secure document destruction g. Composting h. Construction & Demolition recycling 5. Schedule Earth Day and America Recycles Day events. 6. Schedule your 24-hour LEED Waste Audit. This snapshot determines how much your building is recycling and disposing in a 24 hour period. It will also identify the following: a. Contamination in your recycling stream b. Recycling opportunity deposited in the trash c. Total diversion percentage d. Potential diversion percentage 7. Form an Office Green team a. Increase participation in the recycling program b. 11 Paper Shredding Startup Guide WHAT HAPPENS Paper is collected onsite, in secure containers. A paper shredding truck arrives on the scheduled date, and shreds the paper onsite. The shredded paper is then recycled. Information privacy requirements are met and Certificate(s) of Destruction are provided upon request. SPECS & PRICING One Time Drop Off/Pickup (typically a one week timeframe) Delivery/Pickup of totes: $ Totes: $70.00/tote (only charged for totes that are used) 96 gallon totes are used, with a 325 pound capacity. Consistent Service (service rotation not to exceed 12 weeks, between each service) 96-Gallon Tote $97.50/first tote $45.00/each additional tote 325 pound capacity 36 Console, Pricing: $55.00/first console $20.00/each additional console 90 pound capacity 64-Gallon Tote, Pricing: $80.00/first tote $35.00/each additional tote 200 pound capacity One Time Purge $105.00/1 st tote $75.00/each additional tote 96 gallon totes are used, with a 325 pound capacity. Each tote fits ~10 banker boxes of material Driver arrives, brings locked totes to location of paper, empties paper into locked tote, brings locked tote to the truck, tote is mechanically tipped into the truck and shredded onsite. Labor charges apply if driver has to carry the boxes over long distances, to the tote. Shred Event Scheduled for Mondays or Saturdays only 2 hour minimum $320.00/hour BILLING Property: If setting up paper shredding for the building, the property is billed.
