5 Network Objectives (1) Primary Objectives : Identify the current status of solids processing technology (state of the art). and the needs of the European Chemical Industry in relation to solids processing. Determine the goals of specific projects which will meet the needs of industry where the state of the art is lacking in depth. Identify the most appropriate specific research institutions (Universities or SME s) to collaborate on these specific projects. Facilitate the submission of at least 6 collaborative solids processing R&TD actions within the EU. Slangen-SPIN Page 5

6 Network Objectives (2) Secondary Objectives : Establish SPIN as the central source of information concerning solids processing technology in Europe. Increase the membership of SPIN so that industrial organisations from at least 10 member states of the European Union are represented. Ensure that the SPIN Network continues to play a role as the lead propagator in the development of solids technology well beyond the four year duration of the Thematic Network implementation phase. 11 Selection of dryers (1) Objective: to develop a system for the selection of a dryer, consisting of the following parts: 1. A system containing all possible dryer types (> 50), their advantages and disadvantages and rules to make a selection. 2. A program to make the first calculations about dimensions, flows, energy consumption etc. 3. A data base of equipment manufacturers (more than 200) and the type, sizes and prices of their deliveries. 4. A data base of the experience with all kinds of chemical products. Slangen-SPIN Page 11
