15 PPE(Personal Protective Equipment) The owner of any refrigeration system shall supply and maintain for its employees the Personal Protective Equipment required by the jurisdiction where the system is located 15
16 MACHINE ROOM Access restricted to authorized people Large enough to provide access for operations, maintenance, and service Equipment not floor mounted must be accessible by fixed ladder or portable device(s) meant to legally allow access, and kept on site at all times Any roof equipment must be set back at least 3m from roof edges or railings, and fall arrest equipment to be provided to all trained employees All equipment must meet Occupational Health & Safety requirements, including guarding Labelling of all Pipes and valves with paint Minimum temperature for room is 5 C and may require supplemental heating and equipment Other than lighters, atmospheric testing equipment, or matches, no open flame, or equipment with a temperature exceeding 427 C is permitted Room must meet the National Building Code of Canada, and have a 1 Hr Fire Rating 16
17 PIPING Piping should be guarded from impact by moving equipment Piping, Equipment, Valves should be labelled/tagged Ammonia Piping Color Scheme Recommendations as per IIAR bulletin 114 Piping cannot pass through enclosed hallways, landings, stairways, or elevator/dumb waiter shafts Piping cannot go through floors other than basement to main floor, or top floor to refrigeration room Piping crossing walkways shall be located at least 2.3m from the ground, or against the ceiling Provisions must be made for safety relief valve piping discharge 17
