Welcome to! Cabin Guide Thank you for choosing and welcome to Deep Creek Lake. The purpose of this guide is to get you acquainted with the features of this cabin, the do s and don ts, as well as pointing out some of the local attractions and other resources. Even if you never open this guide (please do however, it s important!) remember that I can be contacted at any time if you have a question or concern. Eric Seiler Property Manager Reservations@deepcreeklakecabin.com

Do Read the first section of this guide thoroughly. It contains important information that you need to know about this cabin! Complete the checklist that was sent to you via . A backup checklist is at the end of this guide in case you have lost yours. Call me (Eric) if any problems arise. Have fun during your stay! Don t Forget to treat this cabin gently. Smoke indoors or leave food outside....stop reading here, there is much more you need to know!

Upon Arrival There are a few items you will want to take care of before unpacking. Check to see if everything is clean and tidy The cabin should be clean and well organized. If the cabin is not clean or is untidy, please notify Eric immediately so that he can arrange for a housekeeper to correct this mistake. Inspect the cabin for any damage Walk through the cabin and make sure no furniture, fixtures, or appliances seem to be damaged. This is very important, as even if the damage won t affect your stay, you are liable for any damage from the time you check in until the time you check out unless you notify Eric immediately. Make sure you have water The water pump and water heater may be turned off. If you don t have water or the water isn t hot, please check the breaker box located in the downstairs bedroom. The two breakers on the bottom right may need to be flipped on. If the hot water breaker was off please wait about 45 minutes for the water to become hot. Confirm Arrival Please call Eric at or leave an at reservations@deepcreeklakecabin.com to confirm you have arrived and the cabin is in satisfactory condition.

Upon Departure I m not saying you have to leave yet, but when you do Check out 11 AM / Late checkout 4 PM Normal checkout time is at 11 AM. If there is not a renter scheduled to arrive on your departure date, a late checkout may be available to you. For an additional charge of $25.00 we can arrange a late checkout and extend your stay to as late as 4 PM. Tidy up Please remove all food and disposable items from the refrigerator and cupboards, place any trash in the bear-proof trash can outside the front of the property, and make sure any furniture is put back in its place. Dishes and utensils Please wash the dishes and place them in the cupboard when dry. Any dishes needing to be washed up to two hours before departure should be washed by hand. Once the breakers are turned off, the water and the well pump will be turned off. Turn down the heat to the black line, turn off AC Turn down all thermostats to the black line. This will leave only enough heat on in the cabin so that pipes won t burst from becoming frozen. Remove all belongings, lock all windows and doors We do not take any responsibility for items left in the cabin. Please be sure to remove all belongings before departing. Confirm departure Please call Eric at or send an to reservations@deepcreeklakecabin.com promptly upon departure. Thank you for staying at. We hope you enjoyed your stay!

Linens Don t open the box. For those who brought their own Please do not forget to take them with you when you leave. For those who ordered linen service All beds, with the exception of the sleeper sofa, will have been made before you arrive. You will find a set of sheets and pillowcases alongside the sleep sofa. Both bathrooms will be stocked with enough towels for eight people. What s in the box? A new set of linens may be delivered during your stay and placed on the front porch. DO NOT OPEN THE BOX. These are for the next visitors to the cabin. If the box is opened you will be charged the full price for linen service as linens will have to be delivered again.

Fireplace Operation Warning: log cabins are extremely flammable The pilot light may go out This happens most often when the gas log fireplace hasn t been used in a few days, and may be out when you arrive. To light the pilot Make sure the right button is set to off Rotate the left knob to the pilot position Push in and hold the left knob to light the pilot Hold the knob in for one minute Release the knob and rotate to the on position Caution: To reduce the risk of fire or injury, only adults should try to light the fireplace. Do not place anything in the fireplace.

Hot Tub Survival Guide You laugh now but the danger is real! Please do not try to program the hot tub Your hot tub has been programmed for you before your arrival. If you touch the mode or program button you may cause the hot tub to operate ineffectively. The hot tub is rated for four but is best for two Full capacity may result in water being pushed over the top of the tub. Please replace any lost water so that the hot tub will remain operational. To avoid water loss, it is recommended that only two adults use the hot tub at a time. Children under 15 must be supervised by an adult Don't allow underwater play in a hot tub. Hot tub jets and drains can suck hair in, trapping a child underwater. Explain to children that hot tubs and spas aren't swimming pools or places for active play. Keep the safety cover locked when not in use so that any children cannot easily access without supervision. This will also help prevent heat from being lost (no one wants a lukewarm-tub). Falling asleep is a real drowning hazard Don't allow the water temperature to exceed 104 F (40 C). Drowning has occurred from extremely hot water, which can cause drowsiness and loss of consciousness. Heatstroke is another danger. Please be cautious of drinking and using the hot tub. Alcohol consumption may render a person unconscious. In a hot tub that may result in drowning. If the hot tub seems to be cold or otherwise non-operational, even if you have no plans of using it, please contact Eric immediately. Freezing water may cause pipes to burst.

Pet Guidelines Please read these instructions out loud to your pet. This cabin has no fence The woods are a dangerous place for domesticated animals. Pets are allowed off the leash while on the property but there is nothing preventing them from leaving or wild animals from getting in. Please respect your neighbors If your dog is prone to barking the night away, please do not leave him tied up outside or on the deck overnight. In fact, never leave your pet tied up in the yard unattended. It makes your pet an easy target for woodland predators. Mind the furniture Many pets only feel comfortable up on a coach or chair, or in their master s lap. That is understandable, but please use a blanket on any furniture you expect your pet to be up on or sleep on. Blankets are much easier to clean than upholstery. Clean up after your pet There is nothing that can ruin a nature stroll faster than stepping in a pile of doggie doo. Be considerate of future guests and clean up what your pet leaves behind. The pet fee does not cover damage (or fleas) Please be aware that any damage your pet does to the cabin will not be covered by the pet fee but will be taken from the damage deposit. This also includes but isn t limited to flea infestations.

Getting on the Internet You rented a cabin to get away from it all or maybe not. Settings Network name: ASUS Network key/password: (none required) Modem/router location: In great room on main level Basic Troubleshooting 1. Unplug the power cords from the router and cable modem. 2. Wait 10 seconds. 3. Plug the power cord into the cable modem. 4. Wait 1 minute. 5. Plug power cord into the router. If the connection to the internet isn t restored after performing basic troubleshooting, contact Eric. He ll contact Comcast (and most likely you won t have Internet for a while). Network Security Please be aware that as there is no network key anyone within close proximity of the cabin can gain access to this network. That may only be one or two cabins, but it s worth mentioning.

Finding Stuff Provided you haven t found it already. Hot water heater Lower level laundry room Main water valve Lower level laundry room, valve in front of water heater Breaker box Lower level bedroom Thermostat There is one in almost every room due to baseboard heating Fireplace Lower level den area Hot tub Located on the back deck Router and Modem Corner of main level great room (may be obstructed from view by furniture Air conditioner Upstairs loft window only Portable humidifier Normally stored in the dinning room, but may have been moved

Garbage AKA Bear food Bears like people food Unfortunately, they also leave a terrible mess and may see your children and pets (provided you brought any) as food too. Bear-proof garbage containers are provided outside the front of the cabin for your convenience and to inconvenience bears. Garbage is collected on Thursday There is limited space in the bear-proof trash container. If you are staying on a Thursday please be sure not to miss pickup as leaving trash outside of the container is subject to a fine of $5 per bag. These items go in the garbage not down the drain Never wash the following items down the drain or flush down the toilet: Diapers, socks, rags or cloth of any kind; cooking fat (lard, oil, grease), feminine or personal hygiene products; Lubricating oil or grease; paper towels; cigarette butts (also remember, this is a no smoking cabin!), plastic toys, utensils, drink stirrers; glass, metal, wood; toxic, caustic, or poisonous substances; gasoline, kerosene, fuel oil, antifreeze; degreasing solvents.

For Winter Guests You came for the snow but may get more of the white stuff than you expect. Park close to the cabin You are allowed to park on the side of the road right in front of the cabin. Park close to the building so that in the event of snow the snow plow driver can get by you. Guests are responsible for shoveling the deck No one will arrive automatically to shovel off the deck after a snowstorm. If you plan to use the deck and don t want to step in snow, a snow shovel has been provided for you. Please do not use salt or other chemicals to melt the snow as that may damage the deck. It can get REALLY cold Vehicles often will not start in freezing weather. It is recommended that once you get your car started to let it idle for 15 minutes before driving it. The cabin is NOT equipped with jumper cables or battery charger. If you get stuck, you may need to call for roadside assistance. Deep Creek Lake Towing Buddy s Towing Don t get stranded without a survival kit Items you should have in your trunk Food, water, blanket, extra cloths, and a flashlight. It could save your life.

Smokey the Bear For Summer Guests Only you can prevent forest fires. Remember: Bears. is a cabin in the woods therefor all visitors need to be aware that late spring through fall is fire season. Over 65% of Garrett County is covered by forests. If you decide to use the fire pit in the back yard, please check for fire watches and warnings via the National Weather Service (McHenry) - Open burning may be prohibited at times of extreme dryness, wind, or low humidity. Black Bears Black bears are generally solitary creatures who are non-aggressive to humans but attacks have been recorded so caution must be observed. The main precaution to take during your stay is to never leave food outside unless it is in the bear-proof trash container. Warning: Do not leave food outside in a deliberate attempt to attract bears. Not only is that dangerous and foolish, it s against the law! For more information on black bears in Maryland, please visit the Department of Natural Resources website at: Propane Grill A propane grill is located on the deck and can be used by guests. In the event that the grill won t start it is likely that the propane tank is empty. Guests may refill the tank at Thompson s Gas, Garrett Hwy. Warning: Improper hookup of the propane tank may result in fire or an explosion. Please use caution around the grill. Children should never be allowed to operate the grill or remove/install the propane tank.

Please Remember This is a non-smoking cabin If the cabin smells like cigarette smoke when inspected, you will lose your deposit.
