4/3/17 1 Question: What was something interesting, something that surprised you, and one question you still have about the Bernouilli Activities we observed? 1) Question & TOC 2) name predict draw describe 3) Bernouilli 4) Reflection FLIGHT 1
Name Predict Photo Describe 1) Cone Cup: What happens when you blow into the cup? Predict... The ball did not come out of the cup. The ball spun in the cup. The most air pressure pushing down is at top. Less pressure pushing up so ball does not move. Faster air is less pressure. 2
2) Newspaper Challenge: What happens when you gently push down the whiteboard? Now cover in newspaper and try again? Predict... air pressure paper Table whiteboard When we pushed down the whiteboard, the paper was trapped. The air pressure was pushing down. Air could not get under the paper. 3
3) Two Can Challenge: What happens when you blow the air from the straw between the bottles? Predict...go apart? go together? not move? Air The two cans were pushed together. There was less air between the cans, so less pressure than outside so the cans went together. 4
4) Paper: What happens to the paper when you blow the air across the top of the curved paper? Predict... paper The paper lifted up when you blew across it. Faster air on top of paper so less pressure. Slower air below paper so more pressure lifting paper. 5
Name Predict Photo Describe 5) Hair Dryer & Ping Pong Ball: What happens to the ping pong ball when you blow the air from the dryer? Predict... When the air came out of the hair dryer, it created a column of air that trapped the ball. Faster Air has less pressure making a column. The slower air pushes in holding the ball in place. 6
6) Plunger and Table: What happens when you press the 2 plungers together? Predict... The two plungers stuck together because there was no pressure between them to push the air apart. 7
Name Predict Photo Describe 1) Cone Cup: What happens when you blow into the cup? Predict... high pressure Low pressure The faster the air moved the less pressure there is. The ball stayed in the cup because the high pressure was pushing down. Name Predict Photo Describe 2) Newspaper Challenge: What happens when you gently push down the whiteboard? Now cover in newspaper and try again? Predict... The newspaper was spread out over the board. The air pressure pushing down had no way to get under the paper until you had a gap in the paper. Name Predict Photo Describe 3) Two Bottle Challenge: What happens when you blow the air from the straw between the bottles? Predict... low pressure Air from the straw created low pressure going between the cans. The high pressure on the outside pushed the cans together. high pressure 8
4) Paper: What happens to the paper when you blow the air across the top of the paper? Predict... faster air means less pressure so the paper goes up Lift is produced when the fast air moves over the wing. 5) Hair Dryer & Ping Pong Ball: What happens to the ping pong ball when you blow the air from the dryer? Predict... When the blow dryer was turned on, the velocity of the air trapped the ball inside. Fastest air was at the bottom creating low pressure high pressure on the outside. 6) Plunger and Table: What happens when you press the 2 plungers together? Predict... 9
