6 WB EASYFIRE Easy and clean heating OUR ADVANTAGES cleanefficiency TECHNOLOGY Clean and highly efficient The proven high efficiency turbulators from the WB product family guarantee an optimal heat exchange while reaching a consistently high efficiency level of up to 96 % both in partial load as well as nominal load. Clean due to controlled combustion A specially developed broadband lambda probe ensures optimal combustion. Furthermore, a new ceramic ignition element with photo cell monitoring ignites within a very short period of time while consuming the lowest possible amount of energy. Clean because of lowest emissions The specially developed dust separator ensures perfect turbulation of the combustion gases. This leads to only minimal dust emissions. Clean due to the under-feed combustion system The pellets are carefully fed from below onto the burner plate. The fuel bed thus remains completely stable and does not generate additional dust eddies. 7 WB EASYFIRE Easy and clean heating YOUR BENEFITS WB EASYFIRE PELLET HEATING SYSTEM Easy operation Thanks to the efficient combustion, the ash container only needs to be emptied about once every two years (depending on the size of the system), and the process is very easy and convenient. Simply save on energy Energy saving drive motors for pellet and ash transport ensure low power consumption. A large cellular wheel sluice with metering screw ensures a safe and efficient pellet feed. Simple planning Thanks to the fully integrated return flow boost the wood pellet heating system can be connected to any existing heat distribution system, which helps avoid additional installation costs. 8 WB EASYFIRE Easy and clean heating cleanefficiency COMBUSTION TECHNOLOGY CLEANEFFICIENCY is a label that we give to WB heating systems which are built to achieve lower emission values, highest efficiency and use very little fuel and energy and were specifically optimised to provide a perfect interaction of construction and control elements. cleanefficiency sums up in one word the technology package developed by the WB Innovation Centre that achieves higher efficiency, lower emissions and maximum comfort. Thanks to WB's many years of expertise, the WB biomass heating systems with cleaneffici- ENCY was further perfected in a comprehensive system, which makes it synonymous with modern high-tech biomass heating systems. The differences between WB biomass heating systems having cleanefficiency included and regular models are evident in clearly visible technical and geometrical measures as well as fine-tuning and subtle differences imperceptible at first glance. cleanefficiency is also a response to a looming climate change as a result of increasing environmental burdens. It is a future-oriented technology that offers a further decrease of pollutant emissions with consistently efficient heating performance with the highest levels of efficiency and maximum comfort. The cleanefficiency technology makes an enormous contribution in this respect. As a visible result, the heating systems remain significantly below the limit values for emissions and are at the limit of what is technically measurable. 10 WB EASYFIRE Control WB COMFORT 4 THE FLEXIBLE CONTROL SYSTEM WB marks a new milestone in innovative control technology with the new WB Comfort 4. The technology's intelligent control behaviour with dual operation provides a customised and cost-optimised heat provision as well as an operation of your heating system that requires nearly no operator intervention. The WB Basic control unit The WB Basic control unit is equipped with an integrated room temperature sensor, a dial and a program key with LED displays. A domestic hot water quick charge is possible at the push of a button. An additional highlight is the flexible colour design of the cover which can be customized to match your living room colours. The WB Exclusive control unit In addition to the tried and tested dial, the WB Exclusive control unit is equipped with a 4.3 inch colour touch screen and permits dual operation options. Software updates can be easily carried out with an SD card or an ethernet cable. It is also possible to connect the WB heating systems to a local area network (LAN) and the Internet via the ethernet cable. WB heating management module The WB heating management module with designer housing comes in a Basic and Exclusive version - and optionally with one or two heating circuits. The Basic version enables the control of external temperature-activated heating circuits with mixer control and heating circuit pump, buffer storage tank management of the buffer and hot water storage tanks as well as activation of the circulation pump. The statuses of the individual operating states are indicated visually via LEDs. Every heating management control module Comfort 4 can be equipped with one Basic or Exclusive control unit per heating circuit which could be installed in your the living room. The Exclusive heating management module is additionally equipped with an Exclusive control unit, which makes it possible to operate and monitor all heating circuits, water & buffer storage tanks and circulation pump connected to the heating management module. The intuitive character of the operating structure supported by graphic elements assists in the easy and flexible operation of the heating system. Intelligent heating control The room temperature is continuously measured and also takes other heat sources into account. This guarantees the continuous provision of an optimal amount of heat and prevents unnecessary overheating of the room. Reliable and timeless for a lifetime The construction elements and production of the new WB Comfort 4 correspond to the highest industry standards and ensure maximum reliability throughout the entire lifetime of the system. 12 WB EASYFIRE Control WB COMFORT ONLINE ONLINE PLATFORM The Comfort Online platform enables a simple and comfortable control of the WB heating system remotely. The Comfort Online platform lets the operator monitor and control the heating system via smartphone, tablet or laptop/pc from anywhere in the world. For this, the operator only has to register on the Comfort Online portal and requires an Internet connection to the heating system. Regardless of whether the operator uses a smartphone, tablet or laptop/pc - Comfort Online immediately recognises the type of operating unit accessing the system and automatically adjusts the respective user interface; individual viewing options are freely selectable. An integrated messaging system displays all notices and alarms and notifies the user regarding any deviations from the regular operation of the heating system. If a heating system provides heat to several consumers, it is possible to provide each customer with individual access to the heating system on Comfort Online. The accessible and controllable part of the entire heating system can be freely configured. A consumer, for example, who lives in a residential building with several apartments is able to exclusively monitor and control the heating unit that provides heat to his or her own apartment. In addition, Comfort Online allows the provision of time-restricted expert access to the heating system. A service partner is thus able to easily check the heating system remotely and, if required, adjust the control configuration. This saves time and money! WB EASYFIRE Pellet heating system 12

16 WB Easyfire Conveyor systems PELLET STIRRER PLUS WITH ELBOW SCREW The Pellet Stirrer Plus consists of the stirrer, the gear unit and a conveyor screw, which can be custom-shortened on site. The great advantage offered by this conveyor system is maximum capacity utilisation of the storage room volume. This also means that it is not necessary to install an inclined floor. In addition, planning and installation efforts are reduced to a minimum for the tradesman. The Pellet Stirrer Plus can be combined with the pellet elbow screw, consisting of an ascending screw and screw extensions. This extractor model is suitable for square, round as well as rectangular storage rooms that are situated next to the heating room. 18 WB Easyfire Conveyor systems CONVEYOR SCREW WITH ELBOW SCREW The conveyor screw in combination with an elbow screw is the ideal solution for an oblong storage room, situated next to the heating room. The conveyor screw is available in various lengths and can be combined with an ascending screw and conveyor screw extensions if necessary. For storage rooms that are above the heating room, the conveyor screw is also available in a drop hose design. The extremely quiet conveyor system is maintenance-free, absolutely reliable and requires minimum power. 20 WB Easyfire Conveyor systems WB PELLET BIG BAG WITH ELBO The Pellet Stirrer Plus extracts the fuel from the WB Pellet Big Bag and transports the fuel to the heating system in combination with an elbow screw (Type EF2 S). The WB Pellet Big Bag primarily scores points because of its optimal space utilisation. Standard sizes of 2.2 to 10.5 tons fill content are available for selection; they are made of dust-proof, anti-static fabric that is supported by a galvanised metal frame. The great advantage offered by this conveyor system is maximum capacity utilisation of the storage room volume. This also means that it is not necessary to install an inclined floor. In addition, planning and installation efforts are reduced to a minimum for the tradesman. The Pellet Stirrer Plus in combination with the suction conveyor is particularly well suited for storage rooms that are further away from the heating room. It is particularly well suited for storage rooms that are further away from the heating room, as well as for storage rooms adjacent to, above, or below the heating room. With this variant pellets are extracted from the storage room and transported by suction pressure from the suction turbine into the storage container via a suction hose. Standard sizes of 2.1 to 6.7 tons fill content are available for selection; they are made of anti-static fabric that is supported by a galvanised steel frame that is adjustable for height. The fuel extraction from the fabric tank takes place with a screw with subsequent suction conveyance to the heating system. The WB Pellet Box can be set up either directly in the heating room (maintaining a certain minimum distance to the heating system) or in a separate room, which does not need to satisfy REI90 requirements if certain preconditions are fulfilled. Local fire safety regulations must always be complied with. If appropriately protected from the weather such as rain and wind, the WB Pellet Box can be even set up outdoors. 36 WB Easyfire Required structural conditions REQUIRED STRUCTURAL CONDITIONS Note As a WB system user, you must comply with the locally applicable legal submission, construction and implementation regulations! You can obtain these regulations, for example, from the architect or responsible authorities. Adherence to and verification of the local statutory regulations is a precondition for our guarantee and warranties and for your insurance coverage. WB does not accept any liability, nor does it offer any warranties or guarantee for any type of building measures. Proper execution of building measures is the sole responsibility of the system owner. As a biomass heating system user, you may be entitled to receive specific regional subsidies. Inquire promptly about time limits and procedures for handling subsidy applications. Comply with the dimension specifications in the installation examples and technical specifications. Without laying claim to an exhaustive treatment of the issue at hand and without suspension of any conditions imposed by the authorities, based on the Austrian Directive TRVB H 118 and ÖL technical bulletins No. 56 and No. 66, we recommend the configuration described below. Heating room Concrete flooring, plain or tiled; height-adjustable boiler feet or shims can be used to compensate for minor irregularities. All materials for floors, walls, ceilings must be fire resistant in RE I90*; the heating room door (EI230-C*) must be an automatically closing fire door that opens in escape direction; the connection door to the fuel storage room must be an automatically closing fire door (EI230- C*). Heating room window non-opening E30*; non-closing intake air opening 5 cm² per kw rated power of heating system, but no less than 400 cm². For boiler output > 60 kw, it is necessary to integrate one ventilation opening near the floor and another ventilation opening near the ceiling; the supply air ducting must be routed directly into the open; if it crosses other rooms, the air duct must feature an I90* envelope; a protective grille with a mesh width < 5 mm must be fitted on the outside of ventilation openings to the outside. There must be permanently installed lighting and electrical supply to the heating system; the light and the labelled emergency-stop switch of the heating system must be in an easily accessible location outside the heating room in the vicinity of the heating room door. A portable fire extinguisher (6 kg filling weight, EN3 standard) must be installed outside the heating room near the heating room door. The heating room as well as water lines and district heating pipes must be frost-resistant. No storage of flammable materials in the heating room, outside the heating system storage container or hopper; no direct connection to rooms where flammable gases or liquids (garage) are stored. Comply with the installation guidelines. Fuel storage room The structural requirements for the heating room also apply to the fuel storage room. If it is possible to store fuel volumes of 50 m³ and more, a manually triggered portable fire extinguishing device must be connected to a pressurized water line (from the heating room), executed as empty piping of at least ¾ or DN 20, and must be installed directly above the passage of the supply system that leads into the fuel storage room. The armature must be labelled with a warning sign: Fire extinguisher - fuel storage room. If a pumping car is used to fill the fuel storage room with pellets, it is necessary to mount hose couplings and pipelines (to be earthed), and to install a ricochet mat opposite of the injection nozzles. These items are available from WB. If this filling method is chosen, dustproof sealing of the fuel storage room is required! The escaping air is removed through a second earthed pipeline and hose coupling, or it is blown off into the open air after passing through a filtering section. Suction removal or filtration of the transport air is the responsibility of the fuel supplier. The walls, windows and doors must withstand the overpressure created during the filling process. In order to open the door when the pellet storage is full, door rails with inserted (sliding) wooden planks are necessary inside. The fuel storage area must be designed in such a manner that it is dry and dust-proof! The wall duct for the conveyor system between storage room and heating room must be sealed such that it is fireproof (e.g. with rock wool). No electrical installations are permissible in the fuel storage room as they pose an ignition hazard. Storage room ventilation The storage rooms and storage containers must be ventilated according to ÖNORM M 7137 to prevent an increased CO concentration. The vents in storage rooms with a capacity up to 30 tons must lead to the outside. This is ensured by ventilated filling nozzles (available from WB) that lead to the open air. Filling nozzles that do not lead to the open air must not be ventilated! In this case, ventilation must be ensured through a separate ventilation opening in the storage room (ventilation cross section 200 cm²). This ventilation opening must be configured such that no dust can escape during the air-injection process and that the ventilation is operational after the filling of the storage (and not covered by pellets, for example). Care must be taken to ensure that no rainwater can penetrate into the pellet storage via the ventilation openings. To remove the risk of a carbon monoxide build-up in storage rooms with a capacity of more than 30 tons, one of the following two options must be selected: WB EASYFIRE Pellet heating system 36

37 WB Easyfire Required structural conditions A work organisation system that is combined with a natural or mechanical ventilation based on carbon monoxide sensors, or A state-of-the-art forced ventilation system Chimney Due to the high boiler efficiency, the chimney design should be resistant to moisture. A moisture-resistant chimney design means that there will be no moisture penetration or damage to the brickwork although the temperature level in the exhaust gas path is permanently below the exhaust gas dew point - see DIN 18160! The approximate values for the chimney diameter are stated in the specifications. These apply to the respective size of the system based on the average structural conditions, meaning: effective chimney height 8 10 m, 1.5 m smoke tube length, 2 segment bends at 90 each, 1 contraction, 1 T connection at 90. You must adhere to the specifications in the cross-section diagrams provided by the chimney manufacturer. If conditions differ or are less favourable in terms of space, it is necessary to carry out a chimney calculation according to EN WB provides an electronic data entry sheet for this purpose. Upon request, WB will provide the chimney calculation based on the information provided on the form. This is a chargeable service. The local expert for these issues is your responsible chimney sweep. It is advisable to involve your chimney sweep during the planning phase as he is the one who will have to issue the acceptance certificate for the exhaust gas system. Installation The delivery and installation of the system is done exclusively by qualified, trained WB personnel or WB expert partners. The heating system is delivered in modules, and it is brought in and installed in the heating room so that it is ready to plug in. Licensed heating and electrical installers must connect the boiler system to the chimney, water and electrical system; this must be verified for numerous reasons, e.g. in order to be eligible for subsidies. Smoke tube connection on the chimney If not required by local regulations, we recommend that a draft limiter and an blowblack flap be built into the smoke tube or chimney-side wall, and arranged such as to exclude any danger to persons (exception: in case of an ambient air-independent operation, a draft limiter must be generally avoided). In Austria, a draft limiter must be installed for energy conservation purposes therefore, the omission of the draft limiter must be discussed with the chimney sweep!) eep the smoke tube as short as possible. The smoke tube must be insulated and connected, and should at least ascend slightly towards the chimney, preferably with an inclination of less than 45. The smoke tube should be thermally insulated, made of stainless steel and feature suitable, easily accessible cleaning openings. The chimney connection should be 20 mm larger than the smoke tube diameter. In this way, it is possible to integrate a suitable acoustic transmission decoupler between the smoke tube and the chimney. The WB system is equipped with an induced draught fan as standard equipment. Ambient air-independent operation Depending on the structural situation and if the combustion air line and the connection line to the chimney air-exhaust gas system are sealed and the chimney air-exhaust gas system is suitable, the WB Easyfire corresponds to the *1 *2 types FC 43x and FC 53x according to the approval principles for the inspection and assessment of ambient air-independent fireplaces for solid fuels of the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt). A) Combustion air supply - airexhaust gas system (LAS C D system) B) Combustion air line C) Connection of connection line WB Easyfire D Connection line E) Exhaust gas pipe Before the purchase and use of ambient air-independent fireplaces, the owner must clarify with the responsible chimney sweep whether the overall system (joint operation of fireplaces, exhaust gas system and room air technical system) satisfies the technical safety and functional requirements. The respectively applicable local rules and regulations must be adhered to. These specifications serve as a guideline and do not replace chimney calculation. 1. Combustion air line Aluminium flex pipe 100 mm, leakage rate < 0.1 m³/h; maximum length: 15 m; length reduction per 90 bend: 1 m; length reduction per 45 bend: 0.5 m; sealed tight, thermally insulated with no less than 30 mm (in Germany, thermal insulation must comply with the Germany Energy Savings Regulation EnEV). The air line must be formed such that no condensate builds up and no water can penetrate the pellet heating system (heat insulation, routing to the pellet heating system pointing slightly upward). If the line leads outdoors, it should be provided with suitable wind protection. A grille (mesh width >1 cm) must be attached to the entry cross-section of the air line to pre- * in accordance with ÖNORM EN * 1 Fireplace with combustion air blower for connection to an air-exhaust gas system. The combustion air line from the air shaft and the connector to the chimney are a component of the fireplace. * 2 Fireplace with combustion air fan for connection to a chimney. With respect to fire protection installation regulations for the combustion air line from the outdoors to fireplaces, the construction guideline for fire protection requirements of ventilation systems applies. Ventilation lines and their casing and insulation must be made of non-flammable materials (EI90*). If the combustion line is run through other rooms, the line must feature an I90* sheathing. When connecting the combustion air line to a air-exhaust gas system (LAS), the technical documents of the respective LAS manufacturer must be adhered to. 2. Connection line (exhaust gas) max. length: 2 m; max. 2 bends 90 ; thermally sealed with at least 30 mm; CE according to DIN EN ; with WB Easyfire Type EF2 inspected systems: system Schiedel Prima Plus (certificate No CPD /2006), system Raab EW Alkon (certificate No BPR ). 3. Connection line to the WB Easyfire System Schiedel Prima Plus: connector available from Schiedel (sealing parts: ICS sealing ring silicone DM 150 mm, RS sealant putty-es up to 300 C) System Raab EW Alkon: smoke tube connector available from WB. With ambient air-independent operation, it is important that the smoke tube connection is installed pressure-tight. 4. Air-exhaust gas system Pressure-tight, construction guideline-approved for connection of ambient air-independent solid fuel fireplaces, not sensitive to humidity; LAS systems with annular gap and non-insulated exhaust gas pipe cool the exhaust gas off too much and are therefore unsuitable. A chimney calculation incl. combustion air supply via the LAS system must be carried out by appropriately qualified professionals. There must be no short-circuit between the exhaust gases and the supply air at the chimney entry and along the chimney. 5. Draft limiter, blowback flap For ambient air-independent operation, the draft limiter and blowback flap must be omitted if there is a room air system in the air network of the pellet heating system. In this case, there is a risk of (poisonous) exhaust gas escaping. In Austria, a draft limiter must be installed for energy conservation purposes therefore, the omission of the draft limiter must be discussed with the chimney sweep! Water connection The return-flow boost is integrated with the WB Easyfire the required 2-way valve with servo motor is included in the scope of delivery and must be connected by a licensed installer of heating and electrical systems. For this, the heating system must be equipped with a pressureresistant distributor and, according to regulations (e.g. in accordance with ÖNORM EN or EN 303) with a safety group. If instead of the 2-way valve an external return-flow boost is installed (return-flow boost with mixing pump is not possible!), the heating system must be equipped with a pressureless distributor system (switch, distributor, loadbalancing tank, buffer tank, etc.). A safety group is also required by regulation. WB recommends the installation of an intelligent buffer tank storage when installing a biomass heating system, which can be considered the energy centre of the heating system. As a result, the owner saves on heating costs due to lower fuel consumption, increases the annual efficiency coefficient as well as the profitability of the heating system and ensures perfect system solutions and lower emissions. The reason for this is that the heating system is focused on the coldest time of the year, this type of performance, however, is rarely needed and, especially in transition periods, barely utilised. This leads to frequent burner starts, which has a negative effect on fuel consumption and the entire service life of the heating system. The effect is comparable to the stop-and-go traffic on the road. As a rule, a pellet heating system, however, does not need a buffer storage tank, we recommend it, however, for the aforementioned reasons. In exceptional cases, however, a buffer or load balancing storage tank is required: Oversizing: When the rated boiler output exceeds the entire building heat requirements by 50%, you will need a buffer storage tank (this is often the case when buildings are enlarged or in case of low energy houses, e.g. with a WB Easyfire 15 kw and a building with a heating requirement of 10 kw). In the event of such dimensioning, a large portion of the operating time the boiler will run under the boiler s smallest modulation degree. When using the buffer storage tank, the boiler can be operated in the preferred load range. Very small heating loads in summer / during transition periods, e.g. when only the bathroom is heated in summer/the transition period, the operation of only one or two heating units during transition periods in summer in a heating network without block charge,... If parts of the heat dissipation system are frequently switched off or in the event of a high passive solar contribution In case of large demand for warm water, e. g. hotels, showers in sports facilities, large multi-family houses To cover peak periods in the morning, e.g. in production facilities, schools Integration of a solar power heating system or a log wood boiler Multi-boiler systems (boiler master-and-slave circuits) A charging pump may be required for the use of a load-balancing or buffer tank. Consult your installer/heating system engineer for details! Components of acoustically-insulated water connections must be impermeable to oxygen, otherwise there is an increased risk of corrosion, which also has the effect of voiding the warranty. If plastic pipes for underfloor heating or district heating pipes are connected, it is necessary to integrate a limiting thermostat for the WB EASYFIRE Pellet heating system 38

39 WB Easyfire Required structural conditions circulation pumps to provide additional protection against excessive temperatures. With respect to the condition of the boiler water, VDI 2035 and ÖNORM H 5195 T1 and T2 must be strictly complied with, otherwise there is a risk of corrosion, which may void the warranty. Regarding corrosion, it is necessary to keep an eye on the water conductivity aside from strictly avoiding oxygen entering into the system. The water conductivity must not be greater than 500 µs/ cm for copper-brazed heat exchangers. To prevent deposits caused by limescale and rust mud, we recommend the installation of a mud strainer in the return flow and a microbubble trap in the forward flow. Electrical connections All of the boiler-internal cabling must be carried out by the installation personnel. On site, only a licensed electrical installation company should carry out the mains connection and the boiler-external cabling, and in the case of a network, the bus cabling of the heating circuit expansion modules and for the digital remote control units. In the event of an RLU operation, an outlet must be made available in the building for the CO detector. Required connections to be provided by the customer: Mains connection: single-phase connection 230 V AC, supply 3-pole (L/N/PE), surge arrester 13 A, Typ C Surge arrester (type 2) and fault current protection switch for the distribution board of the house Danger switch emergency stop (emergency stop according to TRVB H 118) (230 V AC cable cross section at least 1.5 mm²) Outputs: Floating contacts with max. 10 A switched current, 230 V AC Fault warning output.
