33 Miele Range Hood Operating Modes The Right Technology for Your Kitchen When cooking, and frying especially, vapours consisting of steam, fat particles and odours are released. Without proper extraction and filtration of air, these same vapours will linger until the air has been cleaned effectively. Miele proposes two effective options to clean the air either through vented or recirculation extraction. Vented Vented hoods extract cooking vapours and filter out fat molecules through a grease filter. Next, an exhaust duct leads the filtered air from the kitchen to the outside. As this air leaves the kitchen, it takes away odours and excess humidity. Recirculating Recirculated hoods extract cooking vapours and filter out grease and odours through several layers of filtration, the grease filter and the baffle filter. The filtered air is then fed back into the room, generating circulation in a closed space, where venting may not be possible.
