5 Rotary heat exchanger Rotary heat exchanger (wheel) is mainly used in building ventilation or in the air supply/discharge system of air conditioning equipment. The wheel transfers the energy (cold or heat) contained in exhaust air to the fresh air supplied to indoor. It s one important equipment and key technology in the field of construction energy-saving. Total heat exchanger Aluminum foil of this wheel is coated with 3A molecular sieve, which enables the wheel to exchange both temperature and humidity, in another word, to recover both sensible and latent heat. Sensible heat exchanger It generally recovers no latent heat unless condensing water occurs and it recovers part of the latent heat. Principle of Operation Rotary heat exchanger is composed of heat wheel, case, drive system and sealing parts. The heat wheel rotates powered by the drive system. When outdoor air (OA) passes through half of the wheel, return air (RA) passes through reversely the rest half of the wheel. In this process, about 70% to 90% energy contained in the return air (RA) can be recovered to supply air (SA) to indoor. 5

6 Plate heat exchanger The plate heat exchanger is one of the air-to-air heat exchangers. Outdoor air and exhaust air are separated by the plates to ensure the air tightness while transferring the heat. It has no movement parts, so it s more reliable and has longer service life. According to the airflow directions of the heat exchanger, it is categorized into crossflow type, counterflow type, and cross-counter flow type. According to the recovery functions of the heat exchanger, it is categorized into sensible heat type and total heat type. 7 Air handling unit with heat recovery Working principle Both supply fan and exhaust fan are built inside to bring in fresh air and exhaust out the stale indoor air as well, thus to keep indoor space in natural comfort. Built-in heat exchanger (rotary heat exchanger or plate heat exchanger) transfers energy contained in the outgoing indoor air to the coming fresh air, thus fresh air is precooled or preheated.
