The Smart Fire boiler you purchased belongs to the most advanced of pellets burning systems in the market. Pellets are recognised environmentally friendly solid fuel. The boiler has been designed and manufactured following the latest trends and the most advanced technology available. These solutions provide for a very high heat efficiency above 91% within the entire range of the assumed output. The Smart Fire boiler has been supplied with the following parts and fixtures that reduce your hustle while operating: advanced ceramic burner with automating clearing system; heat exchange access for manual cleaning ; automatic lighter. Please read the Manual and the attached manual of the control panel, as this is necessary for safe operation of the boiler. Do not hesitate to contact us should you had any enquires. 4 1. General information Smart Fire boiler is and advanced heating system burning pellets. The system includes: thermo-control system, a system facilitating manual cleaning of the heat exchange, advanced ceramic burner, automatic system of burner clearing, and an automatic lighter. The boiler can provide heat to the central heating system in a building, with pump or gravitational circulation, as well as hot tap water. Smart Fire has been rated as low-temperature system and therefore needs no registration with the local authorities in most jurisdictions. Solid fuel boilers operating in a closed circuit are sometimes subject to a limited technical supervision. Once the boiler is installed, the user may need to notify the local supervising authorities before launching operation. 2. Recommendations Initial launch and the all relating tasks and any service work can only be completed by the manufacturer's or authorised service team. Only fuel specified herein can be burned. The boiler must be regularly maintained as specified in this Operation Manual. Always observe the requirements set in this manual Failure in submission to the provisions of the manual will result in loss of warranty and exempt the manufacturer of responsibility of the outcome of the system's operation. You shall observe the general rules applicable to heating technology to protect the system of legionellosis. 3. Safety rules Read these rules before launching operation. Failure in submission to the instruction may lead to: casualty, loss of health, life hazard, damage to the system, the heating installation and the str.4

5 building! Only persons holding necessary licences, knowledge, skills and equipment can be trusted with assembly of the boiler. The installation must satisfy all standards and rules in force and the principles of construction craft. The boiler can only be operated when both the boiler and the heating installation are in perfect state of repair. Breaks, defects and disturbances in operation must be immediately reported to the relevant authorities. Before launch and then regularly every six months, check if the heating system contains enough water. Never open the inspection openings when the boiler is working as this may release dust and exhaust that next can ignite and explode, Never attempt any repairs or reassembly, Never remove the covers as movable pieces and electric devices are installed behind. Extinguish the boiler and wait till it cools down before start of any maintenance work with the boiler. At least once a month check the doors and the water inlets and outlets for tightness. At least once a year check operation of the STB fuse. Facilitate the boiler room with a sign prohibiting smoking and use of fire. Ventilating system must be operable and satisfy all relevant requirements. Operable extinguisher must be available in the boiler room. The boiler room must be secured against entry of unauthorised persons, in particular children. Never remove or disable any safety or measurement devices. Use gloves, dust mask and overalls when clearing ash and cleaning the boiler. The boiler must only be installed in the premises designated thereof and satisfying the applicable requirements. Extinguish the boiler when fuel is delivered. If the temperature of tap water has been set up above 60ºC, warrant admixture of cold water as this creates risk of burning injury. Facilitate proper air removal off the boiler and the heating system. Use only manufacturer's spare parts. str.5

Smart Fire boiler specifications Smart Fire boiler has been designed as compact structure. Most of the boiler pieces are hidden behind the covers which protects them against elements and mechanical damage. Smart Fire boiler, its dimensions and placement of the connectors to the heating system and the chimney outlet have been shown at the fig. 1. Figures 2-4 show the boiler specifying its main systems. There two main elements within the Smart Fire box: the boiler's body and the fuel supply system. The body includes: a collector. a steel heat exchange, the combustion chamber and the ash tray chamber. Inside the steel heat exchange you will find vertical hot gas pipes and the deflector. The exchange features a manual cleaning system. On top of the exchange rest the upper collector and the ceramic deflector made of vermiculite, The exchange rests on the lower part of the body which consist of: the combustion chamber, the ash tray chamber, the exhaust collector, A ceramic burner fits inside the combustion chamber. The burner is fit with an automatic clearing system. Fuel falls down from the auger feeder having its outlet placed above Burner's ash falls from the combustion chamber to the ash tray in the chamber underneath. An exhaust collector is placed behind the ash tray chamber. Exhaust of the combustion is sucked to the exhaust collector with an outlet fan and then directed to the flue collar. The other main system supplies fuel. It is integrated in the external box of the boiler covers. These includes: fuel container and the auger feeder with a moto-reducer. Fuel falls from the main fuel container to the auger feeder. This in turn, pushes fuel to the burner in the combustion chamber. The str.7

8 boiler body connects to the fuel supply system with the collar of the auger feeder. Two covering panels are fixed in front of the boiler. You can access the combustion chamber and the ash try chamber with the pair of inspection doors under the bottom panel. The upper panel makes the upper part of boiler body. A control display showing current status of the boiler is fixed at the front wall of the fuel container. The inlet and outlet of the heating system water are located at the back wall of the boiler. These are threaded pipe ends with a 1¼ " internal thread. The back wall also holds the exhaust collar connecting the boiler to the flue system. The placement of the connectors has been detailed on the fig.1. An outlet fan is fixed to the back wall next to the exhaust collar. Amount of air flown by the fan is controlled by the system controller. A thermocouple monitoring exhaust temperature is fixed in the exhaust collar. The external covers and the body are insulated with mineral wool to reduce heat loss in operation. The covers are made of steel sheets covered with high quality powder paint. Fig. 1. 12 6. Type of fuel Smart Fire has been designed for pellet burning. Pellets are made of wood waste compressed to pieces of ball or cylinder shape. The fuel used shall satisfy the standards applied to pellets. This applies particularly to the heating (energy) capacity of the fuel and its moisture. 13 7. User's operations manual Please read this manual as well as that of the system controller. Detailed information concerning the controller setup are to be found in the controller's manual Launch of the boiler operation Load adequate amount of fuel in the container. The boiler will start the ignition process once the controller is activated. The process includes several tasks that conclude with ignition of the fuel in the burner. Then the boiler will switch to automatic operation. If the ignition process fails (the exhaust temperature does not rise high enough) three consecutive attempts of ignition will be taken. If the third attempt fails the controller will display an alarm. This may happen when setup or fuel are not correct. Contact the service if it happens Boiler's operation After the boiler switched from the ignition mode to the operation mode, the amount of fuel fed in and the fan air flow are set. This is why it offers high efficiency within the entire range of output. Report all disturbances to the service immediately quoting the messages from the display. Adjust the setup only when you are certain about its meaning and how it will affect the boiler's operation. Record all alterations in order to facilitate restoration of a previous setup. This will help the service and call centre consultation. A special notebook has been supplied for this purpose. The boiler doses the fuel in regular intervals. The feeding cycle and the length of a dose are factory set for the nominal, medium and lowest output. However, lower quality fuel may require adjustments to these parameters. The reasons may be the following: the boiler does not switch to the preservation mode or floods the burner with excessive amount of pellets. Consult the controller's manual before adjustment of these parameters. Check quality of the pellets before adjustments of the setup. In particular, check moisture, hardness and dust content soaking a sample in water. Factory temperature setup offers proper operation of the system. However, str.13

14 occasionally necessity to change this parameter may arise. Follow the recommendations concerning boiler temperature range and the controller's manual. Set the central heating temperature, tap water temperature, the heating profile and the night cool-down for a weekly cycle. Initial parameters shall be set by the service. Read the controller's manual thoroughly before attempting any alterations. Remember that it may take a few hours before response of the system to setup change is perceived. You can also set up the parameters of the mixing valve should you install one. Initial parameters shall be set by the service. Always record the current setup before attempting any adjustments so you can restore it should the alterations prove unwelcome. Clean the heat exchange regularly using the knob of the manual cleaning system. The burner is cleared automatically following the intervals in the setup measured by operation hours. All hatches and inspection doors must be shut when the boiler is working! 7.3. Maintenance and cleaning Within the cleaning routine during operation you should: Replenishment fuel in the container regularly; Clear ash off the ash tray - check amount of ash once a week. Remove ash from the combustion chamber; Clean the heat exchange using the manual cleaning system. Amount of ash deposit depends on the fuel used and amount of fuel burned. Except of ash, trace amounts of creosote are deposited. Unscrew the two butterfly nuts at the sides of the ash tray door when you want to remove ash. You need simply to pull the ash tray off the chamber. Ash in the combustion chamber falls down from the heat exchange when it is being cleaned. Access the combustion chamber unscrewing two handles holding the inspection door. Sweep the ash to the ash tray. Clean the heat exchange regularly using the manual cleaning system. Its enough to make a few str.14

15 swings of the knob. Repeat it at least once a week. Long periods without cleaning may incapacitate the manual cleaning systems as it jams. Clean the boiler thoroughly and service it each time after the heating season, before long lay off, or when occasional necessity arises. For this purpose the boiler has been facilitated with the cleaning access openings to: the burner; exhaust collector; exhaust collar; cover of the upper exhaust collector, You need to remove the covers of the upper collector to remove the ash accumulated there. You may hire the authorised service to clean the collector. The access opening to the exhaust collector is located in the ash tray chamber. Once it opened you can access the access opening to the exhaust collar. Always wear protection gloves and other safety gear when removing ash or cleaning the boiler. Extinguish the boiler and wait at least one hour to cool it down before attempting any maintenance or cleaning works. Only then you can open safely the doors or the access opening and start cleaning Extinguishing of the boiler. Switch to the extinguishing mode to extinguish the boiler. The controller will extinguish the boiler safely burning the remaining fuel out and ventilating the system. Therefore you must never unplug the boiler from electric power before extinguishing ends. Always remove fuel from the boiler when you stop it for longer than one day, as it may catch moisture and from a block inside, Remove ash and provide for ventilation of the system if you stop it for longer than one week. Failure to do so may lead to corrosion. str.15

16 8. Service operations manual Dear Professional, Smart Fire boiler is a highly efficient high technology system. Therefore we plead for careful and thoughtful work with installation. Only persons holding necessary licences, knowledge, skills and equipment can be trusted with assembly of the boiler. Launch, periodic maintenance and repairs can only be performed by the authorised service professionals who had been trained adequately. Always submit to all applicable national and European standards and other local regulations that might apply, when installing boilers Transport of the boiler into the building. Apply outmost care when transporting the boiler. Watch for the electronic devices and cables. If you cannot avoid dismantling of an obstructive piece, remember how it was attached, make notes and a photo when necessary. This way you will be able to assemble the unit and assist the service if its involvement proves necessary Boiler room - placement of the boiler The room where the boiler is installed must satisfy the applicable regulations and standards concerning solid fuel boilers. In particular, pay attention to safety of the water and electricity installations, adequate ventilation, exhaust system and fire safety. Assure the mandatory clearance from walls and other items: min, 1200 mm in front; min mm at the fuel container side; min, 500 mm at the boiler's side; min. 500 mm - back; min. 800 mm above. 17 The chimney conveying the boiler's exhaust must satisfy all the applicable standards, requirements and the principles of construction. Fig. 5. Placement of the Smart Fire boiler in the boiler room 8.3. Boiler's installation Returning water cooled down below condensation point will result in accelerated corrosion. The heating system must feature the necessary thermal protection to avoid that. Failure in submission will nullify warranty! The temperature of the returning water must not fall below 50 0 C. This condition must be satisfied for performance of the warranty obligations and for the proper performance of the boiler. To facilitate that you may apply either a for-way mixing valve with an attenuator or a thermostatic valve set for 45ºC. The installation must comply with the regulations in force, the industry standards and the construction principles. Follow the installation sketches on the fig.6 below. Other, viable from the str.17

18 point of view of hydraulics layouts are acceptable. Fig.6 Sketch of connections of the boiler to the heating and tap water system The hydraulic schemata herein are not substitute for a design of the heating system and serve only information purposes! You must also obey the rules concerning the minimum diameters of the pipes in the circuit and the connectors of the mixing valves. Minimum diameters of the water pipes have been shown in the table 3. The heating system must feature an emptying outlet placed at the lowest point of the circuit and as close as possible to the inlet of the returning water. Regardless, the water circuit attached to the boiler must comply with the regulations in force, the industry standards and the construction principles. It must facilitate proper and safe operation of the heating systems. The installation must be inspected by appropriate authorities if local or national regulations require this. str.18

19 9. Service operations manual Dear Professional, working with the Smart Fire boiler you build reputation of the boiler, the manufacturer and yours. We would appreciate a professional and responsible service Launch control Check carefully the boiler, the water installation and the boiler room before launch as it is instrumental to the operations safety, Pay special attention to assembly of all pieces of the boiler. In particular, watch those pieces that might had been dismantled before the boiler was carried into the boiler room. Furthermore the following tasks shall be competed before launch: Check if the heating circuit holds enough water. Water in the central heating system must be clean, transparent without any contamination. Water can only be connected to cooled boiler. Failure to comply may result in damage. Check the heating circuit for leaks. Check chimney connection. Check electricity connection Launch The launch of the system includes ignition of the boiler and initial setup of the boiler's and boiler room parameters as well as training given to the end user as regards control of the system. Watch the boiler's operation in launch and correct the setup when necessary. Follow the controller's manual in the setup. Pay special attention to: tightness of the access openings' hatches - check for smoke leaking from under the hatches when launching the system. Seal if necessary. tightness of the upper collector covers check for smoke leaking from under the covers when launching the system. Seal off if necessary. tightness of the door - check for smoke leaking from the doors edges, adjust hinges if necessary. Fuel container - check for smoke leaking from the container. Seal off if necessary str.19

20 9.3. Repairs of the break downs. Review the circumstances and identify causes before start of a break down repairs. Remember that great majority of break down reports results from incorrect setup, malfunctioning sensors, poor water circuit system, inadequate quality of the fuel. When the breakdown indeed affects a part of a subsystem, dismantle it and replace with a good one. All warranty services and spare parts must be documented with the service coupons. They provide the basis for claims recognition Annual inspection. The inspection shall be carried out at the expense of the service requested by the user. Annual inspection is mandatory for warranty performace, The inspection must not be more frequent than every 8 months and less frequent than every14 months. After the inspection the service shall be satisfied that the boiler has been installed correctly and is operated as assumed in the Operation manual. The following items shall be checked in particular: gaskets on the doors and on the container's top cover; the burner; the ceramic deflector; insulation; the auger; extra devices (ex. vertex guides, cleaning system of the heat exchange, etc.) operation of the controller, fan and the fuel feed; prevention against low temperature corrosion; whether any repairs by unauthorised personnel had been effected. Worn out pieces and minor defects shall be replaced and repaired. The service shall make a proper entry in the warranty card noting its remarks and recording the repairs done. The inspection shall be recorded on the service coupon and mailed to the for registration purposes. str.20

21 10. Scraping of the system after its lifetime. The boiler is built of varying materials so these shall be sorted and delivered to the appropriate disposal/utilisation operator. 11. Terms of warranty and liability The Manufacturer provides the limited 2 year warranty for Smart Fire boiler and 5 years warranty for the heat exchange tightness under conditions that the boiler is operated as assumed in the present Operation manual, the appropriate standards and rules: 1) The boiler can be installed by a professional carrying the general professional licences given submission to the terms of the present manual. Completion of the work shall be noted with an entry in the warranty card. 2) The launch inspections, repairs and all tasks beyond the user's operation can only be performed by service authorised by the. 3) The repairs shall not include the tasks of the operator: ignition of the boiler, cleaning, setup of the controller within the scope assumed in the controller's manual. 4) The service partner who ran the initial launch is obliged of provision of he warranty and postwarranty service 5) The warranty is void if a filled Warranty Card had not been sent to the manufacturer. 6) The warranty is void if the boiler had not been protected against temperature drop of the returning water below 50 0 C, be means of: either a for-way mixing valve with an attenuator or a thermostatic valve set for 45 0 C. 7) The warranty also becomes void when: an annual inspection (p. 9.4.) recorded in the Warranty Card and on the service coupon sent to the manufacturer had not been performed unauthorised persons repaired or tinkered with the boiler; the user refuses the inspection of the boiler room and the central heating and consumption str.21

22 water systems by the personnel 1) The manufacturer shall be indemnified of liability for the damage should the boiler be operated in breach of the present Operation manual or the standards and rules in force. 2) The user shall be liable for the service expense in the case of: unjustified service call, repairs of defects arising because of the User's fault occurrence of conditions making the repairs impossible without the Service providers fault (breaks in power supply, leaks from the central heating system) the user refuses the inspection of the boiler room and the central heating and consumption water systems by the personnel 1) The user shall notify the service immediately abut all defects in the boiler's operation. 3) Within the warranty period the user shall be entitled to: unpaid repairs (except of the user tasks described in the Operations Manuals replacement of the system with a new one once the Authorised Service of confirms impossibility of repairs 1) The pieces worn out within the regular operation are not covered by the warranty. This applies in particular to: gaskets, thermo-insulation, ceramic elements of the deflector, paint, bears, the safety pin. 4) The boiler must be inspected and cleaned regularly as provided by the Operation manual. 5) Impact defects shall not be included in warranty 6) The Manufacturer does not hold responsibility for the system chosen inaccurately as regards its output. 7) Tightness tests with compressed air are forbidden 8) Damage arising from non-compliance to the present instruction, and in particular from breach of the terms of warranty, shall not be a base of warranty claims. 9) The Manufacturer shall be entitled to alterations in construction of the system within the process of product development, which alterations do not have to be reflected in the present Operations Manuals. 10) The Warranty Card features the service coupons. These shall be used for two purposes: a filled service coupon shall be sent to the manufacturer after the annual maintenance str.22
