20 U of A Paty Hall Chiller Replacement March 07, 2013 Mechanical Specifications - Air-Cooled Scroll Item: A1 Qty: 1 Tag(s): CH-1 General Units are constructed of a galvanized steel frame with galvanized steel panels and access doors. Component surfaces are finished with a powder-coated paint. All paint meets the requirement for outdoor equipment of the U.S. Navy and other Federal Government Agencies. This paint finish is durable enough to withstand a 1000-consecutive-hour salt spray application in accordance with standard ASTMB117. Each unit ships with full operating charges of refrigerant and oil. Compressor and Motor The unit is equipped with four hermetic, direct-drive, 3600 rpm 60 Hz suction gas-cooled scroll compressors. Overload protection is internal to the compressors. The compressor includes: centrifugal oil pump, oil level sight glass and oil charging valve. Each compressor will have compressor heaters installed and properly sized to minimize the amount of liquid refrigerant present in the oil sump during off cycles. Unit-Mounted Starter The control panel is designed per UL The starter is in an across-the-line configuration, factory-mounted and fully pre-wired to the compressor motor and control panel. Typically, Trane scroll compressors are up to full speed in one second when started across-the-line. A factory-installed, factory-wired 820 VA control power transformer provides all unit control power (120 Vac secondary) and Trane CH530 module power (24 Vac secondary). A molded case high interrupting capacity circuit breaker, factory pre-wired with terminal block power connections and equipped with a lockable external operator handle, is available to disconnect the chiller from main power. Power Connection Power connections include main three-phase power and one separate 120V, 15 amp customer provided single phase power connection is required to power the heaters (if used for freeze protection). Short circuit current rating of 65kA is provided. Evaporator Braze plate evaporator is made of stainless steel with copper as the braze material. It is designed to withstand a refrigerant side working pressure of 430 psig (29.6 bars) and a waterside working pressure of 150 psig (10.5 bars). Evaporator is tested at 1.1 times maximum allowable refrigerant side working pressure and 1.5 times maximum allowable water side working pressure. It has one water pass. A water strainer and a flow switch are factory installed. Immersion heaters protect the evaporator to an ambient of -20 F (-29 C). Condenser Air-cooled condenser coils have lanced aluminum fins mechanically bonded to internally-finned copper tubing. The condenser coil has an integral subcooling circuit. The maximum allowable working pressure of the condenser is 650 psig (44.8 bars). Condensers are factory proof and leak tested at 715 psig (49.3 bars). Direct-drive vertical discharge condenser fans are balanced and individually protected. Three-phase condenser fan motors with permanently lubricated ball bearings and external thermal overload protection are provided. A variable speed drive on the first fan of each circuit allows the unit to start and operate with ambient temperatures between 0.0 F and F. Refrigerant Circuits The unit has dual refrigerant circuits. Each refrigerant circuit has Trane scroll compressors piped in parallel with a passive oil management system. A passive oil management system maintains proper oil levels within compressors and has no moving parts. Each refrigerant circuit includes filter drier, electronic expansion valve, liquid line and discharge service valves. Capacity modulation is achieved by turning compressors on and off. The unit has four capacity stages. Unit Controls The microprocessor-based control panel is factory-installed and factory-tested. The control system is powered by a pre-wired control power transformer, and will turn on and off compressors to meet the load. Microprocessor-based Equipment Submittal Page 6 of 22

21 U of A Paty Hall Chiller Replacement March 07, 2013 chilled water reset based on return water is standard. The unit comes with a factory installed flow switch. The Trane CH530 microprocessor automatically acts to prevent unit shutdown due to abnormal operating conditions associated with low evaporator refrigerant temperature and high condensing temperature. If an abnormal operating condition continues and the protective limit is reached, the machine will shut down. The panel includes machine protection for the following conditions: low evaporator refrigerant temperature and pressure, high condenser refrigerant pressure, critical sensor or detection circuit faults, lost communication between modules, phase loss, phase reversal, over temperature protection, external and local emergency stop, and loss of evaporator water flow. When a fault is detected, the control system conducts more than 100 diagnostic checks and displays results. The display will identify the fault, indicate date, time, and operating mode at time of occurrence, and provide type of reset required and a help message. Data contained in available reports includes: water and air temperatures, refrigerant pressures and temperatures, flow switch status, EXV position, and compressor starts and run-time. All necessary settings and setpoints are programmed into the microprocessor-based controller via the operator interface. The controller is capable of receiving signals simultaneously from a variety of control sources, in any combination, and priority order of control sources can be programmed. Communications LonTalk (LCI-C) communications capabilities are available with communication link via single twisted-pair wiring to factory-installed and tested communication board. This option will support the functionality required to obtain Lon Mark certification. Pump Pump package includes: two pumps, expansion vessel, drainage valve, shut-off valve at entering and leaving connections. The pump package is single point power integrated into the chiller unit power with a separate factory wired control panel and separate power for freeze protection. The control of the pump is integrated into the chiller controller. The CH530 displays evaporator pump starts and run-times. Freeze protection down to an ambient of -29 C (-20 F) is included as standard. The cold parts of the pump package will be insulated. Designed with one redundant pump, it is controlled to operate both pumps through a lead/lag and failure/recovery functionality. The pump offering can be for applications that have short water loops, de-coupled systems or for applications where the integrated chiller pump could serve the entire loop volume. A variable speed drive is installed in an additional panel to control the pump. The inverter is adjusted upon start up to balance the system flow and head requirements. The purpose is to save on wasted pump energy caused by a traditional balancing valve. Buffer Tank The water tank is factory-installed for easy installation at the building site and it is engineered for continuous flow. Tank construction is welded steel; it is powder coated, fully insulated and designed with freeze protection down to -20 F (-29 C). It is rated with a waterside working pressure of 150 psig and tested at 225 psig.. Water connections are grooved pipe. The purpose of the tank is to increase the chilled water circuit inertia, which is necessary with short water loops. A high circuit inertia reduces the compressor cycling to increase the compressor life span and allow for more precise water temperature accuracy. It also saves energy as compared to hot gas bypass. Comprehensive Acoustic Package Acoustical treatment consisting of low noise fans and compressor acoustical wraps Isolators Molded elastomeric isolators, sized to reduce vibration transmission to the supporting structure when the unit is installed, ship with the chiller. The unit is acoustically and thermally insulated with closed cell insulation. The bottom panel is fabricated from 16 ga. galvanized steel. All other panels are fabricated from 18 ga. galvanized steel. All panels are made rigid by channel forming. Side panels are removable for piping access. The discharge grille is recessed to resist condensate formation. The hinged access door is flush with the unit. Unit Finish All cabinet parts are cleaned, bonderized, phosphatized and painted with one of six decorator colors. Standard finish meets ASTM B117 specifications (salt spray test). Fan The galvanized steel fan wheels are centrifugal forward-curved and double-width. Fan wheels and housings are corrosion resistant. Fan housings are constructed of formed sheet metal. Motor All motors are Brushless DC (BLDC)/Electronically Commutated Motors (ECM) factory programmed and run tested in assembled units. The motor controller is mounted in a touch-safe control box with a built in integrated user interface and LED tachometer. If adjustments are needs, motor parameters can be adjustments through momentary contact switches accessible without factory service personnel on the motor control board. Motors will soft ramp between speeds to lessen the acoustics due to sudden speed changes. Motors can be operated at three speeds or with a field supplied variable speed controller. The motor will choose the highest speed if there are simultaneous/conflicting speed request. All motors have integral thermal overload protection with a maximum ambient operating temperature of 104F and are permanently lubricated. Motors are capable of starting at 50% percent of rated voltage and operating at 90 percent of rated voltage on all speed settings. Motors can operate up to 10 percent over voltage. Coil All water coils are burst tested at 450 PSIG (air) and leak tested at 100 PSIG (air under water). Maximum main coil working pressure is 300 PSIG. Maximum entering water temperature is 200 degrees F (93 degrees C). Tubes and U-bends are 3/8" (10 mm) O.D. copper. Fins are aluminum and are mechanically bonded to the copper tubes. Coil connections are 5/8" (16 mm) O.D. copper tubing. Coil Air Vents - Manual Manual air vents are rated at 300 psig. Equipment Submittal Page 7 of 29

75 U of A Paty Hall FCU Replacements March 07, 2013 Piping Package - 2-Pipe Two-pipe, package is factory-tested and installed. All piping packages are burst tested at 450 PSIG (air) and leak tested at 100 PSIG (air under water). The interconnecting piping maximum working pressure is 300 PSIG. Deluxe Ball & Manual Circuit Setter The deluxe accessory piping package is provided. Piping accessories included in this package are unions on the supply and return lines. Any condensation from the piping package is designed to be collected by the auxiliary drain pan on fan coil units. A ball valve is mounted on the supply line and a balancing valve is mounted on the return line. The ball valve is a shut-off or stop type valve only with a maximum working pressure of 400 psig. The balancing valve is a manual circuit setter type and includes two P/Ts plugs. This valve doubles as a flow control device and a shut-off valve with a maximum working pressure of 175 psig. P/Ts will also be provided on supply side. Main Control Valve The piping package also includes a 3-way normally closed (spring-return) main control valve mounted in the return line(s) of the factory-installed piping package. The 3-way valve package includes a balancing fitting in the bypass with a maximum working pressure of 150 psig. The valve is rated for a maximum pressure differential of 28 psig across the valve, and the maximum working pressure of the valve is 300 psig. In a 2-pipe changeover system, the cooling control valve will act as the heating control valve also. Installation Note Unit leveling and drain line pitch: Set unit level by checking the casing. The Trane Company and the industry in general recommends a drain line pitch of 1" (25mm) drop per ten feet. WARNING: Tighten all unions when piping units. Factory tightens unions, but they may loosen during shipping. Wall-mounted Tracer ZN010 Zone Sensor A wall mounted ZN010 zone sensor (Off/Auto/High/Med/Low & Setpoint Dial) is provided with the fancoil unit. Also included is a 24 V control transformer that is factory mounted and wired in the control box. Wiring (by others) between the unit and wall thermostat module is 24 V. The unit requires only a single point power connection. Tracer ZN010 Control Features All ZN010 have the following control features: Automatic Heat/Cool Mode Determination, Occupied/Unoccupied Operation, Random Start and Manual Output Test Function All ZN010 include the following input/output abilities: Binary Inputs: Low temperature detection, Condensate Overflow, Occupancy Binary Outputs: Fan High, Medium, and/or Low, Cooling output, Heating output, Damper output Analog Inputs: Zone temperature, Setpoint temperature, Fan mode switch, Entering water temperature, Discharge air temperature Sequence of Operation with Valves When the ZN010's switch is in the off position, the fan is off; control valves. The AUTO selection is used for fan cycling. The fan cycles with control valves to maintain setpoint temperature. In cooling mode, the fan cycles from off to medium and in heating mode it cycles from off to low (configurable for heating and cooling). When no heating or cooling is required, the fan is off. When the thermostat setting is in the Low/Med/High selection the fan will run continuously while the control valves cycle to maintain setpoint temperature. Disconnect Switch A unit mounted, non-fused disconnect switch is available as a standard option on all units. 1" MERV 8 Filter The filter is concealed from sight and easily removable. A 1" MERV 8 filter is provided in the unit. The MERV 8 filters have a rating based on ASHRAE Standard The average dust spot efficiency is no less than 35 to 40 percent when tested in accordance with ASHRAE 52.1 atmospheric dust spot method.
