15 3 x Installation Hydraulic connection underfloor heating system 1. Install underfloor heating system and lay the screed (observe the hardening time). CAUTION! To prevent material damage caused by installation errors, you must observe the relevant installation instructions before installing the underfloor heating system. CAUTION! The underfloor heating system pipes may change in length as a result of thermal effects causing tensile and compressive forces. The underfloor heating system must only be installed if adequate length compensation is provided. At temperatures >0 C: Bend radius (BR) = 5x heating pipe diameter. At temperatures <0 C: Bend radius (BR) = 8x heating pipe diameter. CAUTION! The underfloor heating system pipes should be fitted with adequate insulation in the connection region with the ROTEX RMX to prevent damage caused by local overheating. Bundling of underfloor heating system pipes in front of the ROTEX RMX must always be avoided. 2. Cut the underfloor heating system pipes to length and fit the clamping ring kit to the heating pipe. 17 4 x Start-up 4 Start-up Incorrect start-up makes the manufacturer's guarantee for the unit void. If you have questions, please contact our Technical Customer Service. 4.1 Initial start-up After the ROTEX RMX has been installed, completely connected up and the entire installation of the heating system is complete, expert personnel must carry out a one-off adjustment of the heating system in line with constructional requirements and those of the user. This requires regulation of the ROTEX RMX at the fine regulation valve of the flow measurement unit. Optimum and problem-free functioning of the underfloor heating system is only guaranteed when this step is complete Complete sequence 1. Fill the underfloor heating system hydraulically and bleed the air (see Chapter 4.1.2). 2. Carry out a leak test on the ROTEX RMX (see Chapter 4.1.3). 3. Open the isolation valve on the feed and return flow on the ROTEX RMX. 4. Commission the heating system in accordance with the manufacturer's regulations. 5. Switch on the integrated accessory components and adjust them (e.g. room thermostat). 6. Adjust the heating circuits of the ROTEX RMX (see Chapter 4.1.4). 7. Heating up the installed underfloor heating system in accordance with the regulations (see Chapter 4.2). 8. Bleed the air from the hydraulic system completely once more (manual bleeding unit). 9. Tighten the pipe connections on the ROTEX RMX. 10. Complete the heating up protocol Page Filling the underfloor heating system hydraulically and bleeding the air Filling the underfloor heating system only with the SAT actuator removed. 1. Connect the bleeding hose to the manual bleeding unit of the feed manifold. 2. Connect the filler hose with back-flow prevention unit (½") to the boiler fill and drain valve (4)of the feed manifold. 3. Close all inflow and return flow valves on the ROTEX RMX. 4. Open return flow valve in the 1st heating circuit. Turn the blue protective cap in a counter-clockwise direction and remove. 5. Fully open the fine regulation valve on the flow measuring unit in the 1st heating circuit. Fig. 4-1 Working steps 3 to 5 FA ROTEX RMX - 11/

18 4 x Start-up 6. Fill the underfloor heating system with water and flush (<6 bar) until water comes out of the bleeding hose without any bubbles. Fig. 4-2 Work step Leak testing If no underfloor heating circuits are connected to the ROTEX RMX the return flow valve will not be pressure tight. 1. Close the isolation valve on the feed and return flow on the ROTEX RMX. 2. Open the return flow valve. Turn the blue protective cap in a counter-clockwise direction. 3. Open the manual bleeding unit. 4. Fill with water via the boiler fill and drain valve on the return connection (max. pressure 10 bar). 5. Open the valves on the feed modules one after the other and bleed the underfloor heating circuits individually. 6. Close the bleeding unit after complete deaeration. 7. Allow the hydraulic system of the underfloor heating system to stand for 24 hours at 6 bar pressure. If the pressure drops in this period, leaks are present that be eliminated. 8. Adjust the pressure in the hydraulic system of the underfloor heating system to the normal installation pressure (see heat generator instructions) Setting the heating circuits To adjust the volume of heating water for each heating circuit exactly, you must adjust the fine adjustment valve on the flow measuring unit on the ROTEX RMX. 1. Determine the heating water volume required for the underfloor heating system (from the heat demand calculation). 2. Open the feed flow valve until the determined heating water volume is displayed on the flow measurement unit. 3. Turn the handwheel on the feed flow valve up to the stop. Fig. 4-3 Work step 2 Fig. 4-4 Work step 3 18 FA ROTEX RMX - 11/2009

19 4 x Start-up 4.2 Heating up protocol There are different methods for "Heating up of the floor screed": Function heating Ready-to-apply heating Function heating Function heating verifies that the installation is fault-free for the heating engineer (see Heating up protocol, Page 23). In this case, function heating (identical with "Heating up" in EN 1264, Section 5.2) does not constitute a heating up process for drying and curing. Normally you need to carry out separate heating process to prepare the floor and/or perform mechanical drying. Heating up should be carried out no earlier than after 21 days for cement screed, and no earlier than after 7 days for anhydrite screed in accordance with the details provided by the manufacturer. The first heating up starts at a feed temperature of 25 C, which must be maintained for a period of 3 days. After this, the maximum feed temperature is set and this must be maintained for a further 4 days. Heating up in the System 70 starts at 38 C, governed by the insulating effect of the DUO heating pipe, and this must be held for 3 days. Then the design temperature (e.g. 70 C) must be maintained for 4 days. After the heating up process described, there is no guarantee that the screed has achieved the moisture content required to prepare the floor. You must determine the moisture content in the screed by measurement before laying the floor covering. Procedure in accordance with EN 1264 Part 4: The heating circuits must be checked for leaks by a water pressure test once the anhydrite and cement screeds are completed. The absence of leaks must be ensured immediately before and during screed laying. The level of the test pressure is at least 1.3 times the maximum permissible operating pressure. If there is a danger of freezing up, you must take suitable measures, e.g. the use of antifreeze or temperature control in the building. If antifreeze is no longer required for intended use of the installation, you must remove the antifreeze by draining it out and flushing the installation with at least 3 changes of water. Ready-to-apply heating The drying out procedure for the screed cannot be predicted exactly in advance. At higher humidity levels in the air this can come to a complete stop under certain circumstances. The drying out process may be accelerated by running the underfloor heating (ready-to-apply heating) or by using measures such as mechanical drying. Each ready-to-apply heating process must be commissioned separately by the building owner as an extra service in accordance with VOB. For the building owner to achieve fault-free installation, the flooring must be properly prepared and dried out before work is started on the top flooring layer. FA ROTEX RMX - 11/
