7 The creation of Arundina suria orchid In a meticulous period of 4 years, Arundina Suria is an orchid species developed from the hybrid of two species of Arundina graminifolia from two different countries, namely Vietnam and India. The Vietnamese species is a small terrestrial plant about 30 cm height which produces small delicate white flowers and can thrive under the hot sun. The Indian species is also a small terrestrial plant, about 15 cm height that bears dark pink flowers but not The hybrid of these two species produced semi-miniature plant with heat-tolerant and compact plant architecture characteristics. quite as easy to nurture as it requires shade for growth. 1Hybrids of Arundina species from Vietnam and India 6 Seeds were germinated and developed as plantlet. All plantlets were maintained in lab for about one year 2 Seed pod was developed from successful hybrids whereby the process of hybridization to pod harvesting took about 7 weeks 8 Plantlet developed as seedlings and were maintained in nursery for another year 10 It took another year for Arundina Suria to mature into full bloom 3 The seed pods were collected and germinated in culture laboratory 4 Seeds were sown in culture media 5 Seeds started germinated after 8 weeks from sowing After one year, all plantlets were transferred to nursery 7for further development 9 After one year in nursery, the plants were transferred to an open field for further evaluation and flowering stage All information contained is acknowledged with the reference by Horticulture Research Centre MARDI.
