Fruits and Vegetables..Spring Picnic..Easter Egg Hunt View this in your browser APRIL 2014 Newsletter This Month's Themes Garden Seedlings The moms of the month provided clay pots for each child. First the children had the opportunity to decorate their pot with special pastel markers. They then filled their pots with dirt and chose what seeds (radish, corn, onion, and carrots) to plant in the pot. After planting, they got wooden sticks with the seed names on them to act as labels. The pots were lined up along the courtyard sidewalk to get the afternoon sun and to make watering easier. Reminders Theme for May: Music, Rainbows, Graduation 5/26 Memorial Day Holiday 5/30 Summer Birthdays/Pajama Party Yearbook Pictures- Shutterfly Please see details under the Helpful Hints section below Thank You! Thank you Moms of the Month for the planting craft and arranging a wonderful picnic and Easter Egg hunt!: Mrs. Diaz (Gabriel and Alejandro's mom), Mrs. Erum Syed (Aminah's mom), & Mrs. Daley (Max and Liam's mom) Thank you to our Chef mom, Mrs. Nenic (Mina's mom), for the YUMMY lunch for the teachers! Thank you Mrs.

The big event three times a week was the watering of their pots. Four or so children at a time left their work in the classroom, gathered in the courtyard, had their watering can filled andthen gave their thirsty vegetable garden a much needed drink. Subhani (Maya's mom) for helping with the special Mother's Day project. Thank you for the generous donation! Thank you to Mrs. Dinda (Austyn and Lexi's mom) for helping the PM class! Thank you also to Mrs. Subhani for the special spring goody bags for the kids! Helpful Hints Several days later, the children exclaimed with glee as they walked by the pots because the seeds were sprouting! With each passing day, the children watched as their plants and the plants of their friends took grew and developed leaves. Since the plants need deeper soil and more room, we sent them home to be planted in the gardens and landscaping areas of your homes. Perhaps each family will have a harvest of some kind later this summer. The planting project ignited interest in the children for the Botany Materials in the classrooms; Parts of a Plant, Parts of a Flower, Parts of a Leaf and Types of Leaves. These have been completed with puzzles which were separated, drawn and then colored or by tracing, poking and then gluing. Either way, the pictures are beautiful. Yearbook Pictures: Please sign into the GMMS Shutterfly account (username uzma61@msn.com/ password: growingm) and select 15 pictures of your child and put them in your child's individual folder. This will help Mrs. Sophia pick pictures of your choice for the yearbook. Parents of Kindergartners: Please also include a baby and a family picture in your folder. Birthdays!

Pioneer: Rahil Poonawala April 13, 2009 Spring Picnic-April 25th The moms of the month of April could not have ordered a more perfect day for the Spring Picnic. The breeze was cool; the sun just warm enough to burn off the early morning fog; and the proximity to the water made the park a refreshing place to be on April 25! How joyful it was to watch the children run across the wide open green lawn with friends from both classrooms. Explorer: Austyn Dinda April 20, 2008 Our Busy Bodies! The pavilion was decorated in the colors of spring with centerpieces of fruits and vegetables and we all enjoyed a fabulous selection of dishes in addition to the pizza. We were well stocked with water and juice and enjoyed a dessert of ice cream and homemade sugar cookies in the shapes of bunnies, flowers, and eggs. The children each received a special 'vegetable treat' filled with goldfish.

After the picnic some of the families put on bathing suits and sunscreen in order to enjoy the splash park! Easter Egg Hunt The Easter Egg Hunt was rescheduled for the day of the picnic due to inclement weather earlier in the month, but it turned out to be a great addition to the day s festivities. Each child had a gift bag with his or her name and was instructed to find and keep 12 plastic eggs. They had fun hunting on the grass, under bushes, in the mulch and in the raised landscaped areas. Extras were set aside for classmates who could not come to the picnic. Inside the eggs, the children found a variety of goodies and not all of them sweet; there were stickers, little toys, and tattoos as well as candies. Sing Sing, Sing with Me Learn the songs as the children do in school so you can sing along with them!

sing along with them! Inch by Inch, Row by Row Gonna make this garden grow All is takes is a rake and a hose and a piece of fertile ground Inch by Inch, Row by Row Someone bless these seeds I sow Someone warmed from below Till the rain comes tumbling down Our New Playground Items Have Arrived! Thanks to the fundraising efforts through the Holiday Gift Shop, we were able to purchase a new airplane/teeter totter, caterpillar tunnel, pirate ship sand box, a water table. and a garden box. The items will be put together with help from our Dads! Thank you to Mrs. Bednar (Lucas' mom) for researching these playground items. Starting this week, the children will transplant flowers into the garden box built by Sheza s dad, Dr. Asrar. Thank you, gentlemen for sharing your building skills with our students.
