16 frogmore house Hidden away in the private Home Park about a mile from Windsor Castle, Frogmore House is set in beautiful gardens first laid out by Queen Charlotte in the 1790s. 17 GROUP VISIT Frogmore House Combined visit Frogmore House and The Savill Garden Combine your visit to Frogmore House with The Savill Garden for a summer s day out. In 1932 Queen Mary gave Sir Eric Savill permission to develop a garden in Windsor Great Park. The creation of the 35-acre garden was later followed with great interest by Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and the Temperate House is dedicated to her. During August and September, visitors can delight in the vibrant colour of The Savill Garden s beautiful herbaceous borders and the eye-catching and critically acclaimed Savill Building. Here you can enjoy the excellent visitor facilities, including a gift shop, plant shop and restaurant. Photographer: Andrew Lawson Your guided tour will take you through this delightful house, telling the story of past residents. Frogmore is especially linked with Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, and her talented daughters. Their love of art and botany is reflected throughout the interiors, particularly in the beautiful Mary Moser Room. The Duchess of Kent lived at Frogmore for almost twenty years, and her daughter, Queen Victoria, visited the house regularly during her long widowhood and often worked on her papers there. The tour ends in the Britannia Room, where, following the decommissioning of the Royal Yacht in 1997, The Duke of Edinburgh arranged a selection of items to reflect the interior of the much-loved vessel. The rich mahogany table that dominates the centre of the room was made for Britannia in the 1950s. For a very special experience at Frogmore, groups may now enjoy a private evening tour. A guided tour is followed by a glass of champagne in the Colonnade Room overlooking the lake and garden.
