5 Important Safeguards 5. Cleaning - Step a applies to equipment that can be disconnected from the CCTV system without seriously jeopardizing security. Step b applies to equipment that must operate continuously such as video switching equipment at military installations. a. Disconnect this video product from its power source before cleaning. Do not use caustic, abrasive, or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. b. Use a damp cloth to clean the equipment. Do not allow moisture or liquids to enter any vents. Do not use caustic, abrasive, or aerosol cleaners. 6. Attachments - Do not use attachments not recommended by Vicon as they may cause hazards. GRAPHIC SYMBOL EXPLANATION The lightning flash with arrowhead symbol, within an equilateral triangle, is intended to alert the user to the presence of uninsulated dangerous voltage within the product s enclosure that may be of sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock. The exclamation point within an equilateral triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the unit. 1. Read Instructions - All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the video product is operated. 2. Retain Instructions - All the safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference. 7. Water and Moisture - Do not use this video product in any location where it may be exposed to water or moisture. This does not apply to outdoor camera housings, outdoor panand-tilt drives, and other equipment designed for direct exposure to outdoor environments. 8. Accessories - Do not place this video product on any unstable surface or table. The video product may fall, causing serious injury to a person and serious damage to the video product. Use only with a mounting accessory recommended by Vicon, or sold with the video product. Any mounting of the video product should follow Vicon s instructions, and a mounting accessory recommended by Vicon should be used. 9. Ventilation - Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation of the video product and to protect it from overheating, and these openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never be blocked by placing the video product on a rug or other similar surface. This video product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This video product should not be placed in a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack unless proper ventilation is provided or Vicon s instructions have been adhered to. 10. Power Sources - This video product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supplied to your installation site, consult your Vicon dealer or local power company. For video products intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions. 3. Heed Warnings - All warnings on the video product and in the operating instructions should be adhered to. 4. Follow Instructions - All operating and use instructions should be followed.

6 11. Grounding - This applies to video products equipped with a 3-wire grounding-type plug, a plug having a third (grounding) pin. This plug only fits into a grounding-type power outlet. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the grounding-type plug. 12. Power-Cord Protection - Power supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the video product. 13. Outdoor Cable Grounding - If an outside cable system is connected to the video product, be sure the cable system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Section 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA , provides information with respect to proper grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. 14. Lightning - For added protection for this video product when it is not used for long periods of time, disconnect it from its power source and from the cable system. This prevents damage to the video product due to lightning and power-line surges. 15. Power Lines - An outside cable system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines or circuits. When installing an outside cable system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power lines or circuits as contact with them might be fatal. 16. Overloading - Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock. 18. Servicing - Do not attempt to service this video product yourself as opening or removing covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. 19. Damage Requiring Service - Disconnect this video product from its power source and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions. Note that step c does not apply to outdoor camera housings, outdoor pan-and-tilt drives and other equipment specifically designed for direct exposure to outdoor environments. a. When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged. b. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the video product. c. If the video product has been exposed to rain or water. d. If the video product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions, as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the video product to its normal operation. e. If the video product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged. f. When the video product exhibits a distinct change in performance - this indicates a need for service. 20. Replacement Parts - When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by Vicon or that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electric shock, or other hazards. 21. Safety Check - Upon completion of any service or repairs to this video product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the video product is in proper operating condition. 17. 9 1. Unpacking Unpack carefully. This is electronic equipment and should be handled carefully. Check to ensure that the following items are included for applicable models are ordered. V5160MUX 16-Channel Digital Color Multiplexer Accessory Pack including 12 VDC Adapter. Installation instructions. 2. Service If the unit ever needs repair service, the customer should refer to the Shipping Instructions at the end of this manual. This unit should be installed by a qualified technician using approved materials. Read these instructions through completely before attempting installation. 3. Description The V5160MUX Digital Color Multiplexer provides on-screen display of sixteen camera inputs combined with numerous additional functions. The image display is updated at the field rate of 60 field/sec. In addition to multi - screen displays or playback on a single monitor, multiplex recording on a VCR of up to 16 camera images is possible with this duplex multiplexer as well. Note : 1. If the video is to be looped out to other equipment, make sure that the final item of video equipment on each line is terminated with 75 ohms. 2. The time lapse VCR can be connected to the unit to allow to response to alarms. 3. Do not apply any voltage to any alarm input. It will damage the unit. 4. The V5160MUX does not echo received characters. 2

11 All programming is done with the front panel keys. There are 21 keys on the front panel. The keys named MENU, FREEZE/+, ZOOM/-,, SPOT/, SEQ/, CHANGE/, and SHIFT/ENTER are used in programming unit. The TITLE, VCR, and ALARM keys are not used in programming the unit. Functions of each key on the front panel are described in Table 1. Scrolls upward through program selections; selects entries. Scrolls downward through program selections; selects entries. ENTER enters or sets function. Press the MENU key to display the programming screen. Select TIME/DATE and press the ENTER key. The following menu is displayed: TIME /DATE DATE FORMAT : MM/DD/YEAR DATE SET : TIME FORMAT : 12 HOURS TIME SET : PM 03:47: Date Format Press the (+) and (-) keys to toggle between the formats. The options are: MM/DD/YEAR DD/MM/YEAR YEAR/MM/DD (YEAR: 2000 ~ 2099) Press the MENU key to exit the menu Date Set Press the (+) and (-) key to establish the necessary digit Press the and keys to move the cursor to the required position. Press the MENU key to exit the menu Time Format P ress the (+) and (-) keys to toggle to select the required format. The options are: 12 HOURS 24 HOURS Press the MENU key to exit the menu. 4

12 5.1.4 Time Set Press the (+) and (-) key to establish the necessary digit. Press the and keys to move the cursor to required position. Press the MENU key to exit the menu. 5.2 Camera Titles Select CAMERA TITLES screen and press the ENTER key. The following menu is displayed: CAMERA TITLES CAMERA 01 = CH01 CAMERA 02 = CH02 CAMERA 03 = CH03 CAMERA 16 = CH16 Press the and keys to move the cursor to required camera. Press and to highlight the character. Select the camera title, using the (+) and (-) keys to select the desired character up to a max. 7 characters. Choose from the following for each of the characters: Alphabet (26 letters), Number (0~9), Special Characters ( [.],[,],[:],[+],[-],[*],[/],[(),[]],[?],[ ]). Press the MENU key to exit the menu. Note: To retain all titling (camera and alarm), the tape must be played back on the same V5160MUX it was recorded on. 5.3 Dwell Setup This menu allows you to adjust the dwell times of the 16 camera video displays. Select DWELL SETUP and press the ENTER key. The following menu is displayed: DWELL SETUP CAMERA 01 = 5SEC CAMERA 02 = 5SEC CAMERA 03 = 5SEC CAMERA 16 = 5SEC SPLIT 4X4 = 5SEC Press the and keys to move the cursor to required camera. Press the (+) or (-) key to adjust the dwell time. Dwell times may be programmed from SKIP to 99 seconds. A setting of SKIP removes the channel from the sequence. Press the MENU key to exit the menu. 5.4 Alarm Setup The ALARM SETUP menu allows you to set the alarm options for each of the video inputs. The alarm can be set for titling on or off, dwell time, polarity and video loss. The unit can also have the audio beeper set to on or off. Select ALARM SETUP and press the ENTER key. The following menu is displayed: 5

Press the MENU key to exit the menu Alarm Attribute Setup The ALARM ON/OFF function enables you set the alarm on or off for each video channel. ALARM POLARITY function enables you to define how the alarm is generated for each alarm input, either normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) contacts. Select ALARM ATTRIBUTE SETUP and press the ENTER key. The following menu is displayed: ALARM ATTRIBUTE SETUP ON/OFF POLARITY ALARM 01 = ON ALARM 02 = ON NO NO ALARM 16 = ON NO Press the or key to move the cursor to the required alarm number. Press the and key to select between ON/OFF and POLARITY. Press the (+) and (-) keys to toggle NO or NC and ON or OFF. 6

14 5.4.3 VD Loss Alarm Setup The VIDEO LOSS ALARM function enables you to define if an alarm is generated when any of the video inputs is lost/not detected. Select VD LOSS ALARM SETUP and press the ENTER key. The following menu is displayed: VD LOSS ALARM SETUP CAMERA 01 = ON CAMERA 16 = ON Press the or key to move the cursor to the required camera. Press the (+) and (-) keys to toggle ON or OFF Dwell Time Setup The DWELL TIME function allows you to set the automatic reset period after an alarm is generated. Select DWELL TIME on ALARM SETUP menu. The time is highlighted. Press the (+) or (-) key to adjust the time. The options are: 1-99 SEC: automatic reset period HOLD: alarm continues until the alarm camera key is pressed followed by the ALARM key FOLLOW: alarm continues during the period of input and will go off automatically Buzzer Out The BUZZER OUT function allows you to enable or disable an audible alarm. Select BUZZER OUT on the ALARM SETUP screen. ON or OFF is highlighted. Press the (+) and (-) key to toggle ON or OFF Relay Out The RELAY OUT function allows you to turn the relay out ON or OFF to respond to an alarm or video loss. Select RELAY OUT from the ALARM SETUP screen. ON or OFF is highlighted. Press the (+) and (-) key to toggle ON or OFF Trig Out The TRIG OUT function respo nds to an alarm input. The unit allows you to turn the TTL (standard 5V level) level HIGH or LOW (TRIG OUT does not respond to video loss). Select TRIG OUT from the ALARM SETUP screen. HIGH or LOW is highlighted. Press the (+) and (-) key to toggle HIGH or LOW. Note: The TRIG OUT is tied to the VCR alarm input. The signals (HIGH or LOW) must match the signals on the equipment (i.e., VCR) it is hooked up to. 5.5 Record Setup The RECORD SETUP defines how the unit s video output to the time lapse VCR is recorded. Select RECORD SETUP and press the ENTER key. The following menu is displayed: 7

The option is highlighted. Press the (+) and (-) key to toggle the options. The options are: VEXT USED : Record mode must be set to time lapse for VEXT to work 002 ~ 511 FIELD : This selects the field when the VCR snaps the picture; it must be set to the clock in the VCR and might require some trial and error to set correctly (check the VCR manual) Record Mode Setup Select REC MODE to set the type of recording. The option is highlighted. Press (+) and (-) keys to toggle the options. The options are: TIME LAPSE FRAME REC (R/T) FIELD REC (R/T) REC OFF Alarm Record Setup Select ALM REC to decide the recording condition when an alarm is occurred. Press (+) and (-) keys to toggle the options. The options are: NO CHANGE: Alarm recording remains as set on the REC MODE (time lapse or real time). EXCLUSIVE: Only alarmed camera records. INTERLEAVE: Alarm camera is interleaved into the pattern more often Alarm Speed Setup Select ALM SPEED to decide the speed of alarm when an alarm is occurred. Press (+) and (-) keys to toggle the options. The options are: FOLLOW: Recording in mode selected in REC MODE menu. If in VEXT mode, uses clock in VCR to set record speed. FRAME REC (R/T): Recording in frame with real time speed. FIELD REC (R/T): Recording in field with real time speed. 002 ~ 361 FIELD: Select a time delay for the time lapse recording VCR Input Setup Select VCR INPUT on the RECORD SETUP menu to choose if the recording and playback are to be made through CVBS (Composite Video) or Y/C (S-VHS). Press the (+) and (-) keys to toggle CVBS or Y/C. 8

16 5.5.6 Zone Setup Select ZONE SETUP to set the recording time zone of each channel. Press ENTER key. The following menu is displayed. ZONE SETUP REC ZONE A = 10:00 13:00 REC ZONE B = 14:00 19:00 REC ZONE C = 11:00 18:00 REC ZONE D = 20:00 06:00 DEFINE C, D = SUN + SAT + HDAY *ZONE A, B MEANS WEEKDAY *ZONE C, D MEANS WEEKEND Select the zone to be programmed. Press the (+) and (-) keys to select time; press the to select the time range (from/to). Set the recording time range of the cameras in ZONE A as weekday period. Set the recording time range of the cameras in ZONE B as weekday period. Set the recording time range of the cameras in ZONE C as weekend period. Set the recording time range of the cameras in ZONE D as weekend period. ZONE A, B are for the weekday ZONE C, D are for the weekend, including Sunday, Saturday and Holiday, Sunday and Holiday, Sunday, Sunday and Saturday, Holiday, and same as Zone A, B. Holidays can be addressed separately in the following menu Holiday Setup Select HOLIDAY SETUP to designate holidays to be recognized as weekend for the recording option. Press ENTER key. The following screen is displayed. HOLIDAY SETUP MM-DD MM-DD MM-DD MM-DD (1) INSERT (2) DELETE Select INSERT and set the required date by pressing (+) and (-) keys. Press to select month or day. Press the ENTER key to add the holiday. To remove a certain date from the list, move the cursor to the DELETE; the listed holiday will appear from the earliest date. Press the ENTER key to delete that date; then the following date will then appear Record Camera Setup Select the RECORD CAMERA SETUP to decide the record time zone of each camera channel. Press the ENTER key. The following screen is displayed. 9

Press the and key to select weekday or weekend. Press (+) and (-) keys to select options: Options for WEEKDAY are : ALWAYS, ZONE A,B, ZONE A, ZONE B, SKIP Options for WEEKEND are : ALWAYS, ZONE C,D, ZONE C, ZONE D, SKIP *ALWAYS: Records all the time. *ZONE: Recording only possible during the times designated in ZONE A, B, C, D. *SKIP: Do not record. 5.6 Display Setup Programming the display mode includes all formats for display on monitor. Select DISPLAY SETUP on MAIN MENU. Press the ENTER key. The following menu is displayed: DISPLAY SETUP TIME : OFF BY <TITLE> KEY TITLE : OFF BY <TITLE> KEY POSITION : BOTTOM BORDER LINE : WHITE SCREEN COLOR : BLUE Select TIME or TITLE using the or keys. The option is highlighted. Press the (+) and (-) keys to toggle the options. The options are: OFF BY <TITLE> KEY: Will not display time/title while TITLE key is pressed. OFF ALWAYS: Time/Title never displays. ON BY <TITLE> KEY: Displays the characters of time/title while TITLE key is pressed. ON ALWAYS: Time/Title always displays. Select POSITION to set the display position of time and title. Press the (+) or (-) key to toggle BOTTOM or TOP. Select BORDER LINE to set the color of the border line of split screens. Press the (+) or (-) key to toggle options. The options are: WHITE, GRAY, BLACK, NONE Select SCREEN COLOR to choose the background color of the screen. Press the (+) or (-) key to toggle options. The options are: BLUE, BLACK If using a monochrome monitor you must select BLACK. 10

18 5.7 Spot Monitor Setup Select SPOT MONITOR SETUP on MAIN MENU. Press the ENTER key. The following will be displayed: SPOT MONITOR SETUP (1) DWELL SETUP (2) TIME DISPLAY : ON (3) TITLE DISPLAY : ON (4) DISPLAY POSIT : BOTTOM Spot Dwell Setup Select DWELL SETUP from the SPOT MONITOR SETUP screen. The following is displayed: SPOT DWELL SETUP CAMERA 01 = 5 SEC CAMERA 02 = 5 SEC CAMERA 03 = 5 SEC CAMERA 16 = 5 SEC Press the or keys to select the camera number. Press the (+) and (-) keys to select the number of seconds (1~99 or SKIP). Press the MENU to exit screen Time and Title Display Select TIME DISPLAY or TITLE DISPLAY from the SPOT MONITOR SETUP screen. The option is highlighted. Press the (+) and (-) keys to toggle ON or OFF. Press the MENU to exit screen Display Position Select DISPLAY POSITION on the SPOT MONITOR SETUP screen. The option is highlighted. Press the (+) and (-) keys to toggle TOP or BOTTOM. Press the MENU to exit screen. 5.8 Event Log The multiplexer keeps a record of the events, up to 450 events, by Power On, Video Loss, Alarm Occur, Alarm Reset, Programming, All Clear and Factory Setting. Program event is only recorded when the contents are changed. If the events in the log is full with 450 events, recording will be stopped and an EVENT FULL message appears until the events in the log are deleted. Select EVENT LOG from the MAIN MENU. Press the ENTER key. The event lot screen displays. To delete all the entire list in the event log, press the TITLE and VCR keys simultaneously. 11

20 5.9.2 Password Setup Select PASSWORD SETUP on the SYSTEM SETUP menu and press (+) or (-) key to toggle the options: DISABLE, ENABLE PASSWORD SETUP PASSWORD : DISABLE NEW PASSWORD: To enable a password, select ENABLE. Select NEW PASSWORD and press the ENTER key. Confirm password. Press the MENU key to exit programming screen. When the Password is forgotten, turn off the unit, press and hold TITLE key and turn the unit on again; the unit will now have a factory default settings Factory Default Setting To return to the factory default setting, turn the unit off, press and hold the TITLE key and then turn the unit on again. 6. Operation Front panel LEDs light to indicate video inputs. Any channel without a video input is automatically skipped during sequencing. Refer to Table 1 for operation keys. In VCR playback, if no video was recorded, if a camera was not in the schedule to be recorded, or if there was video loss, the word Mask appears on the screen. Record check function in VCR mode Press the VCR button to check the recording screen in VCR mode. Press VCR again to exit VCR mode. Press the SEQ button to change to full screen sequencing. Full Real -Time Display in Multi-Screen mode Various multi-screen displays are available with full real-time displays in different split screen mode. Press Shift with numeric key to call each split mode. Use CHANGE key to select a window in the split screen and press a numeric key to insert that camera into the selected window. 22 7.1 Computer Remote Control The V5160MUX uses a very simple command set, each command consisting of three characters. The first character in all cases is the slash or virgule (/). The unit looks only for a three -character command, with an initial slash. It ignores all other characters. If a mistake is made in entering a command, just type in another slash character followed by the appropriate character for the desired command.
